Hello everyone; I have a Samsung TV LE32S71B and a GeForce 7300 GS graphics card. I can't get the DVI to work on the HDMI of the TV? How can I check if my TV accepts HDMI input from the graphics card, and if so, what settings should I use? I've tried everything, but maybe I'm missing a detail? When I unplug the VGA and leave only the DVI-HDMI connection, I get a blue screen telling me the mode is not supported.
Thank you for your help and advice. Since I play a lot on Flight Simulator, I would like to further improve the image quality.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me.

I bought a Sony Bravia
I've tried everything for the sound but nothing, I have the picture but no sound.
I’m using the DVI output of a graphics card (8800 GT) connected to the HDMI input of the screen.
I have a connection from the PC's audio output to the audio input next to the HDMI socket of the screen but it doesn't work, nor does the mini-jack output connected to the SPIDF of the screen.
I’ve tried both analog and digital and it doesn’t work
Please help me.

Hello,
be careful with DVI-D and DVI-I; DVI-D only transmits the image, while DVI-I transmits both image and sound.

You can't do that, because there is no adapter to HDMI. The best option is to connect your DVD burner via the SCART or component output (YUV) if it exists, and connect it to the television.
DVI passes through the audio S/PDIF to an HDMI port, otherwise, I have to hear voices on my TV :o)
HDMI is a digital standard, so it needs to receive digital sound, meaning S/PDIF, and since the HDMI or DVI output (with DVI-HDMI adapter) is from the graphics card, it’s essential that the card has an S/PDIF input.
This is true for all graphics cards that aren’t too old.
As for the S/PDIF output, that’s the case for all motherboards that aren’t too old either.
As for the mini cord, it is usually included with the motherboard.
When I say "not too old", my equipment, which is over 2 years old, had all that.
Today, there are graphics cards that have an audio circuit.

Hello, I'm sorry but a DVI (type D) cable is incapable of transmitting sound. The whole point of the HDMI output is to support both video and sound, so it's important to have this same input on the television. However, you can still retrieve sound via a jack plug on the analog output of the computer and connect it to the auxiliary sound input, which is usually located next to the DVI input on the display.
HDMI graphics cards have an internal SPDIF connection that allows sound to be integrated into the video signal, but you need to have a compatible television. Best regards.

Hello,
I connected my Hoher 32 l*500-2 TV to my PC with a single cable without any problems, watching the AV channel (PC).
The TV displays the Windows XP Home image and then nothing:
either I get the message 'no PC input', or 'unknown format'.
Whereas a week ago, I was able to access and operate the PC through the TV.
What do you recommend?
Thank you.

Hello,
Have you resolved the issue?
It seems that it's not possible to connect a PC via this interface:
I read in the Samsung LE46F71 manual:
- Do not attempt to connect the HDMI/DVI connector to a PC or laptop graphics card. (This would display a blank screen)

Hello,
I also aim to connect my PC to my TV via a DVI to HDMI cable. Despite what the manual says, I managed to get the PC image on the TV without too much trouble (you need to go through the graphics card settings; at some point it will prompt you to choose a monitor, and it should normally suggest the TV as a monitor). However, the sound still comes through the PC speakers (note that this is a laptop). How can I get it to play sound on the TV?
I'll keep searching a bit in the options, but if anyone knows a solution, that would be great.
Thanks!

I connect my laptop to my screen via HDMI and I get no sound but I have the image, and indeed I have to go through the graphics card menu to adjust the display, so that part is fine.
However,
If I connect a cable from my laptop to the screen (with a cable for sound, a white and a red output, which I plug under the HDMI input of the screen), I can't get sound on the TV (playing movies or series...)

Arnaud, the DVI output only sends an image, not sound, while the HDMI output sends both sound and image in high definition. You need to use an SPDIF connection, either coaxial black or orange, to capture all the sound coming from a DVD (Dolby Digital). You also need to configure your sound card to access these outputs. I hope this helps.
Hello, could you explain to me which cable I should use to connect my DVD recorder to an HDMI output of my Samsung LCD LE32S62B since my DVD does not have an HDMI output? Thank you for your response, see you later.
Hello, I have a problem... I have a VGA cable connected to my laptop (HP) and a DVI adapter connected to my TV (LG)... So far, everything is fine, but when I start the laptop, the loading image appears very well on my TV screen, great, but when the Vista logo appears, the screen goes totally black and nothing happens after that! Could someone please help me?
The HDMI cable connected between a laptop (in my case, HP DV 9083) and a TV (in my case, Samsung LE46M86) transmits both image and sound correctly. The problem comes from Vista. On my PC, there’s XP and Vista; under XP, there are no issues—both image and sound pass through—while under Vista, only the image passes through. I would like to know how to resolve this issue under Vista, which I have read may be related to a DRM problem.
Hello,
I also just acquired a Samsung LE40M86. I want to connect a PC to this device. The cable you are using is HDMI/HDMI. If so, does that mean your laptop has an HDMI port? Or is it an HDMI/DVI cable?
As for me, I have a desktop:
Processor 1 AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+ (Socket 754)
Operating system Windows XP Professional (build 2600) Service Pack 2
Motherboard MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7181 1.00
Memory 4608 MB (2 sticks)
Hard drive 1 Hitachi HDS721616PLAT80 (153.38 GB)
Hard drive 2 Maxtor 6Y080L0 (76.33 GB)
Hard drive 3 Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device ( GB)
I don’t have a graphics card. What do you recommend? I don’t play games but watch videos
See you later!

You are absolutely right, under Vista you need to go to the Control Panel, Sounds, manage audio devices
There, instead of selecting the speakers, you click once on Output and select Default...
And that's it!!
Thanks Al

I had the same problem: my notebook (HP 17" Pavilion 9590ez) connected via HDMI - HDMI to my Sharp Aquos LCD TV (LC-52 XD1E)... when I started a DVD, there was no SOUND between the notebook and the LCD TV.
I followed Al's good advice:
Start > Control Panel > Sound... under the "Playback" tab, by default the Speakers were checked. I set the second icon "Realtek Digital Output" as default for playing my DVD (the icon resembling a car radio). Miracle, the SOUND is now present on my Sharp LCD TV.
Once the DVD movie playback is finished, go back to the sound configuration (see above) and set it back to default "playback through Speakers".

Hello everyone and welcome to the club of troubles between PC and LCD TV. As for me, I have the same issue and after several days of an infernal battle between cables and connections, I've concluded that my Samsung has 3 HDMI outputs. The first one I connected is for my Freebox HD which works without any problem, both sound and picture, as it is connected via an HDMI/HDMI cable that transfers both the image and the sound. For my PC, I used a DVI/HDMI cable which gives me a beautiful picture, but no sound. On my Samsung TV, I have an audio in HDMI 2, which is also an RCA audio input (red and white) that would be connected to HDMI 2, but nothing works, no sound. I had to connect the sound from my PC through my home theater amplifier in auxiliary mode, yay! But I’m only getting stereo through it.
By the way, what you should know is that for those who have a tower, you just need to buy a motherboard with an HDMI output and go into the settings to switch the graphics card to the HDMI output of the motherboard, and there you go, no more issues, sound and picture.
Alternatively, buy a graphics card with HDMI output and have a motherboard that allows sound settings on the graphics card. There you have it, now you know everything. In any case, when the TV is set to the HDMI channel, it only provides sound from that input, so the only way is to send sound via the HDMI from the computer. Good luck! ^^

Good evening Dez, I have exactly the same problem. It is stated in the manual that one can connect a DVI/HDMI cable and connect the RCA through the DVI in (HDMI2) audio panel.
Yet it doesn't work... O_o
But it might indeed be an audio output for devices connected via DVI for video and RCA for audio input and re-output via HDMI2. (For recording video and audio from a PC onto a digital recorder)
So the sound would arrive on the television but only to re-output through HDMI2 (Doesn't that sound silly?)
In any case, it's not very clear at all, I'll call Samsung.

I contacted Samsung for technical assistance on the LCD screen LE40A616 regarding our famous sound issue when connecting via a PC DVI/HDMI and wanting to receive the sound on the television.
According to them, the PC sound should be connected to the PC Audio Jack located to the left of the VGA input.
They didn't provide any information about the two RCA DVI in (HDMI2).
I will test their response tonight by connecting through the PC Audio Jack.
^^ Greetings

Hey Komar, it seems to me that the PC jack input only works on this channel of the TV. I also find it ridiculous to send sound through HDMI since HDMI is an input and not an output. Anyway, there's a simpler solution: you just need to buy a sound card that has an HDMI input and an output. Then you connect the DVI/HDMI from your graphics card to the sound card and output via HDMI/HDMI to the HDMI input that gives you both image and sound through the sound card via HDMI. The only problem is that it's 100 euros for the sound card and an extra HDMI cable to buy!!! Anyway, that's all I've found. I gave up on the HDMI2 audio input because in any case it only passes stereo while HDMI can handle digital up to 7.1 channels, so it's not comparable. The best option is to send the TV sound via an optical fiber to a 5.1 amplifier to enjoy the digital sound.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Hello,
I have a Mirai LCD TV with an HDMI port. I WANT TO CONNECT MY PC VIA MY 6600GT GRAPHICS CARD WHICH HAS A DVI PORT. I HAVE A CABLE THAT IS DVI/VGA WHICH I PLUG INTO MY LCD AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. Now, from this cable, I would like to connect a VGA/DVI adapter to end up with a DVI/DVI cable. I bought another DVI/HDMI cable so that I finally end up with a single DVI/HDMI cable. Now when I plug the DVI part into my graphics card and the HDMI part into my LCD screen, it says no signal. If someone could explain the problem, it would be nice.

Hello,
I bought a DVI to HDMI cable to connect my Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 graphics card to my LG 32LC45 LCD screen. Everything is hooked up correctly, but my TV displays nothing but "no signal." I don't know what to do, if you could help me that would be great.
See you soon.

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone,
I come to increase the number of those who have sound output issues with DVI - HDMI. I connected my GeForce 8600Gt to my Samsung plasma with a DVI to HDMI cable. I understand that this cable only transmits video signal. I tried to connect with an audio cable (mini jack out from the PC, 2 RCA in to the TV) without success after testing all inputs.
I’m on XP with an Asus P5K motherboard and a Gigabyte 8600GT.
If anyone has a solution to get sound, that would be great because the picture is awesome.....
It would be a shame to have to reconnect my S-Video.
Thanks

Hello;
Help, I connected my PC to a Philips LCD via HDMI, it works, but when I switch to watch TV and then go back to HDMI, it says no video input. I have to turn off my PC and turn it back on every time.
Thank you for your help, I'm losing my temper.

Hello everyone, I have a Shart LC32wd1e screen and an ATI Radeon x1950xtx graphics card. When I connect my screen to the graphics card, I have a color problem with a lot of red, and it has nothing to do with the settings of the TV or the card because when I connect via S-Video, it works but the quality is worse. So if anyone can explain this to me, thank you.
Hello everyone...
Same problem as licorne113...
The months go by, and we all have the same issues..
We need a charitable soul to create a dedicated website because all this is not very clear..
In my case:
I have an Nvidia 8800 GT connected to a Samsung HD TV LE32BD81 ...
I use a DVI-D cable from the graphics card and a DVI-HDMI converter.
For sound, I connect the 2 RCA cables from my external M-audio sound card to the audio-in DVI of the screen, apparently intended for this scenario.
No sound...
The sound outputs of the sound card are fine, and I've also tried the sound card integrated into my PC with a jack-to-RCA cable, same observation: NO SOUND !!
So, more strangely, sometimes when I change the resolution of my screen.. suddenly there's sound for a few seconds and then nothing..
This makes me think that the problem might come from the NVIDIA drivers, updated of course.. :)
So here's my question....
Since the TV is connected via a DVI-HDMI converter, how does the TV know that there is no sound over HDMI and that it needs to look for sound from its 2 RCA DVI input?
Especially since NVIDIA, in its great wisdom, indicates output via HDMI cable while the card is only equipped with DVI !!
I tried to contact Samsung for technical details.. but nothing !!
Thanks for your help or for any clues, as we can say from the forums that connecting the sound card output to the DVI audio RCA input DOES NOT WORK.. or is an uncertain science..

I have exactly the same problem. I see the image from my Mac Book Pro screen (a Mini DVI Port output that changes to HDMI afterwards). So there's no problem displaying my entire desktop to my Sony Bravia, but the sound from my Mac Book Pro does not transfer at all. Have you found a solution to transfer the sound?
