HDMI audio/video sync issue LG 42" LCD

Hello everyone,

My problem is as follows.
I just bought an LG 42" LCD TV, the 42LF2510.
I have no complaints, the picture is exceptional on HD source (Canal+ HD), very good in SD (my DVD player must upscale well too).
For the Xbox 360, it's a mind-blowing experience, full HD revolutionizes the video game experience.

As you may have understood, I have several sources connected to the screen via HDMI.
The TV has an optical audio output to connect the sound to my amplifier.
Great, no need to connect each source directly to the amplifier, one cable is enough! (in theory)
But here's the thing, after use, two problems arise:
_The sound, whatever the source used (even with the integrated HD TNT), experiences a delay of a few tenths of a second, which is quite annoying. (but there is no delay when using the TV speakers)
However, when I connect the source directly to the 5.1 amplifier, the delay with the picture disappears, which leads me to believe that the problem comes from the LCD.
_The sound is output in stereo quality (the amplifier switches to dolby prologic II = modified stereo to 5.1) while the source is emitting in 5.1

To summarize:

image+sound --->HDMI--->LCD--->optical fiber--->amplifier = picture/sound delay

image ----->HDMI---->LCD
sound ----->optical fiber---->amplifier = perfect synchronization

My question is very simple.
Is this a defect of my LCD?
Is there a setting to adjust the sound/image delay on my LCD?

Thank you for your answers.
Have a good day everyone.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Really very relevant your answer!
Thank you for your advice. I will now throw my brand new LG LCD in the trash to buy a nice SONY!
And what next!
I wouldn't buy SONY for anything in the world!!!
Sure, it's a standard but many other LCDs are cheaper and offer better performance!
"Counterkill", if you have nothing to say to try to solve my problem, avoid posting such nonsense!
In the meantime, if anyone has a hint to overcome this little problem, please speak up.

Thanks again for your attention.
Have a good day.

Hi

Same issue as you with my LG 42LV4500:
Freebox --> using the cable that connects to the TV socket of the Freebox to bring the image and sound to the LCD (at one end of the cable there's a sort of video output socket and on the other side a SCART and 2 RCA), using the 2 RCA to transmit the sound to my stereo amplifier.

Observation: there's a sound delay between what's coming from the LCD and what's coming from the stereo (it's a very very slight delay but enough to create a sort of echo. Listening closely, the sound from the LCD is delayed compared to the sound from the stereo --> should we conclude that the electronic processing of sound takes too long on LGs (when I say too long, I mean maybe 1/10th of a second, but that's already too much)? Or is it a defect of the TV?

For your information, I used exactly the same equipment (Freebox, cables) on my CRT TV, and there was no delay. So it must come from the LCD, but is that normal?

I had the same problem solved, I reset the television to factory settings and searched for channels again, avoiding the analog channels, and the sound is very good, no more delay.
