Epson ink cartridge chip to reprogram

Is it possible to reprogram a chip on an Epson ink cartridge? What is the principle? Thank you for your response.

I want to talk to you about the scams regarding cartridges and printers from the company EPSON.

It’s really outrageous to let companies like EPSON get away with this... their scam is well-known and visible, and they continue as if nothing is wrong... There are people who let them do this, which is even worse.

Let me explain.
I only make black copies and the color cartridges wear out almost as fast as the black ones even though we take great care to never use them...

By the time a black cartridge is used up, there’s about 1/4 left in each of the 3 colors, and I want to emphasize that we've never used them. So I go buy a black cartridge, and when I put it in, suddenly it tells me that the colors are empty... even though you can clearly see through a transparent hole that there’s still quite a bit of ink in the cartridge...

I really can’t afford nor do I want to be scammed into having to buy all 4 cartridges again every time I need to print 20 sheets... Especially since I only use black... And of course, if one of the color cartridges is supposedly empty, we can't even make black and white copies, so they force us to buy color cartridges just to use the printer in black and white mode...

This isn’t the first time it’s happened to me; I had already bought 2 printers thinking it was a problem, and well, I have the same issue with EACH printer...

We need to boycott EPSON products and stop buying anything from them. Plus, when you search the internet, the problem is really common, so a little advice from me: DO NOT BUY EPSON ANYMORE.

I will try to spread the message as much as possible online, hoping that as many people as possible will react to this serious problem, especially given the price of 4 cartridges... They are crooks and they deserve nothing but prison; in the street, such behavior would lead directly to jail... but we let them get away with it.

Thank you for reading, and if possible, please spread the word and warn your loved ones never to buy EPSON products. I would have already done a good thing to counter these rich companies that think they are above the law and truly see us as cash cows full of money...

...I saw that there are ready-made kits in supermarkets for:
- 1: reprogramming the chip of specific printer cartridges.
- 2: refilling with generic inks.

It seems I have seen kits for Epson ...So when you go shopping, check the IT section ...! (...not to advertise, but I saw it at Carrouf ....!!!)

Hello,
When you see the price of ink and the complexity of refilling a cartridge, it's better to buy a new compatible one!
The latest generations of printers (after April 2007) cannot use certain compatible cartridges...
You can find these 100% compatible cartridges on this site:

The cartridges are reliable, filled more than Epson ones, inexpensive, and are refunded in case of problems... So the risk is zero...

Thank you for the explanations, but we did it this way and yet it still doesn't work, and moreover the counter was not at the maximum number of copies, not even halfway.
As a result, my impatient daughter took it all apart and now nothing works. I brought the printer home and will see about getting it back up and running.

I can't manage to print & yet I've changed all my cartridges. My computer detects them & even shows the ink level as full.

The only thing I don't understand is that I can't clean the print heads, so I can't print.

What advice should I follow?

for my part, I prefer to refill my ink cartridges; it’s much more reliable and economical.
Personally, I go to Soif d'encre in Brotteaux, Lyon; they are cool and very professional in this matter, with very attractive prices. I’ve refilled my cartridges twice, and it works great.

I downloaded the small software ssc-service-utility, when I click on the icon I get an error message "failed to set data ssc-service-utility". Who knows this problem? Could it be the reason why my printer starts when I shut down the PC and only prints the beginning of the page? I have an Epson Stylus C86. If I change, Epson cartridges never work with Vista, while they work normally with my old Windows XP. Is it Vista that is causing the problem???? Thank you if you can give me some information.

I've been having this problem since last night: I have already reloaded my sx100 twice with a pack of compatible cartridges, and this went fine.
Last night, the black cartridge being completely empty, and the others not much better, I inserted the last black cartridge from the "pack" and that's when everything got stuck:
These cartridges were marked with a red cross 'not recognized' on my PC, but +++ worse, it blinks red and I can't restart printing, not even with "direct reproduction."
I put in "Epson originals" and ... nothing changes: still not recognized and impossible to print/scan directly.

This "blocking alert" must be permanently in "memory?"

Hello,

Because of the chips in Epson printers that block printing after a certain number of prints (even when a cartridge is not yet empty), I decided to throw away my Epson printer and buy a different brand.

What are the other printer brands that truly allow printing until the very end?

There is HP, but for the past two years, their printers have consumed ink every time they're turned on due to head cleaning, so that's to be avoided as well.

I have an Epson Stylus SX510W, and my girlfriend has one too (my fault, because I recommended it to her). Mine still works, with the Epson cartridges provided with the printer, but my girlfriend's no longer recognizes the magenta and cyan, because we replaced them with compatible ones.........At first, all the cartridges were recognized without any problem........Later, when the black one was empty again, we replaced it (compatible), and there.........no more recognition of the magenta and cyan, while the new black is recognized.......I’ve tried all sorts of tricks, read online or imagined by myself, nothing worked. I even messed with the chips (the ones from compatible cartridges only serve to fool the Epson software, they can't send information to the computer), no results...............I think it all comes down to the printer's firmware, which contains instructions aimed at squeezing us like lemons......Completely ridiculous firmware regarding Epson, because I conducted a series of tests with compatible cartridges, Epson cartridges, all with or without chips, and I got surreal results in terms of cartridge recognition failure. One that is unrecognized as such will be recognized as that, or vice versa, etc.........All this to achieve nothing, anyway. Who would know, once and for all, HOW TO GET INTO THE FIRMWARE, and modify or completely delete these absurd functions, so that we can print as free citizens, and forget these hours of frustration?
There must be a way to do it?

Reset on Epson Multifunction SX115  Hello,  I just got a brand new Epson Multifunction SX115. My friends have been so frustrated with my cartridges since they only printed 10 pages and had to replace them under the pretext that the printer needed to be used at least once a week, according to the feedback from the printer that was sent for repairs, so they opted for a HP.  What interests me is the scanner. It seems that if the cartridge indicator shows a replacement needed, it locks all the functions of the printer. After reading various posts, I haven't found any indication on how to reset the cartridges on this piece of junk.  Thank you for your suggestions before I dissect it to recover a few bits and then toss the rest in recycling. Best regards,  Jean-Yves

I have been using an Epson Stylus DX4050 (Multifunction: Printer, photocopier, and scanner) every day for the past 4 years. I am a student (I do a lot of printing) and I have often mistreated the machine, it must be said!!

- I have never used original Epson ink cartridges, always compatible ones... and it works very well, I have never had any problems.
I adjust the printer software to save money.
When I run out of ink, I can use the only function that doesn’t require ink, which is the scanner.

- I have never tried using refilled and reprogrammed cartridges, whether in stores or with personal equipment.
Beware, new printers risk countering this type of workaround!!

- There are a few tricks, for example pressing specific buttons while your printer is off... but does that really work!!!?

- The software is useless because it doesn’t change the internal workings of the printer (or its software), unless you are a professional or gifted => hacking remains the only option?

It is true that at Epson, colors are separated like many printers today, which wasn’t really the case 4 years ago. The brand touted savings since it was no longer necessary to change all the colors if one was to run out. But at what cost!!! A bit too expensive for my taste.
One day it occurred to me to write to Epson to get answers regarding printing when I was missing a color!! When one color is used, it needs the others to print and thus create all the shades of the spectrum. This seemed a bit far-fetched to me since with cartridges where colors were not separated, I remember that you could print with the remaining colors.

Finally, all this to say that I do not recommend Epson, nor any other brand.

For many years now, manufacturers have been using tricks to make you consume more and more, always more expensive. This goes from innovations, to mandatory accessories and consumables (otherwise the machine becomes unusable), to proprietary components, and also to PROGRAMMED OBSOLESCENCE... And this applies to everything, whether it’s for your car, showerhead, bed, phone, electronics, light bulbs...

It's up to you to carefully assess your needs; is it really necessary to buy a printer if you only print once a year? Or on the contrary, if I do 3000 copies a year? The key is to know if going to specialized photocopy and print stores is not more advantageous for you?

When making a purchase, you need to ask yourself what you are buying based on your needs, otherwise you might regret it (but here I'm preaching to the converted). In any case, for me, the mistake happens once, not twice..

Hello, I have an XP 215, I searched for the solution to reset the Epson cartridges and the only solution I found is rechargeable cartridges on "rechargetacartouche" for 20€ for 4 with autoreset. It works perfectly.
