Black screen + mouse cursor at Windows 7 startup Solved

Question

Hello and happy new year to everyone,
Since this morning, I am experiencing a major problem with my laptop running Windows 7 Pro. Indeed, as soon as the PC starts, I get a black screen with the cursor. With each restart (using the button, of course), the cursor of my mouse is exactly in the same place as I leave it before restarting. Furthermore, I don't see the Windows logo and the computer is ready in 3 seconds flat, which makes me think it's trying to resume from Sleep mode.

I want to clarify that I had to force it to shut down using the button last night because it froze while shutting down. The latest Windows updates were done on January 4th, but I was still able to launch Windows yesterday.

I also specify that I can move the mouse cursor, it does not attempt to boot from the Windows installation CD, and I am unable to access the BIOS or Safe Mode (F8).

I would like, if possible, to avoid losing any data.

Turn off the PC, then unplug the power cable from the PC, then press and hold the power button on the PC for 30 seconds, then release it, plug the cable back in, turn on your PC, and immediately tap the F12 key. :-)

Hi,  What do you see when you start in safe mode (a black screen, an error message, ...)?  (Safe mode: F8 or F5 at PC startup)  :-)

As I mentioned in the first message, the computer must recover from a non-existent sleep mode, which means I can't boot from a CD or access the BIOS/Safe Mode.

No. The PC shows the cursor in less than 3 seconds and does not go through the Windows logo.

A huge thank you to you, the PC started up correctly after I removed the battery and the charger from my laptop and then held the button for 30 seconds.

(I then put the battery and the charger back in place and the boot sequence went smoothly :)).

If this can help someone for whom waking up from sleep is not an issue:

I had the same symptoms (black screen on startup with an active mouse and ctrl-alt-delete was unresponsive) and after a few minutes, the desktop appeared.
The problem was that I had disconnected a hard drive containing my User files (including those on the desktop) and it was simply looking for them.

my PC turns on, I see the brand logo and then there’s the Windows startup, but after that it goes to a black screen and I can't do anything...

I have the same issue as "tchoup" (I’m using HP) and when I press alt f5 I get the Windows boot manager, but I don’t have the line to reinstall Windows 7
after that I just get a black screen.

Hello, my name is Jonathan, I'm 25 years old and I have two computers running Windows 7. I suspect Windows 7 has a major problem, possibly related to a Trojan. Let me explain: I have an old PC that is 4 years old. One afternoon, I went to turn it on after lunch and it wouldn’t start; Windows wouldn't launch, no error messages, impossible to use the keyboard, the screen is all black and I don't have the mouse cursor. An engineer who built my new PC didn’t detect any faults in the components. Sometimes we have access to Windows on the old PC, which did not have this problem when powering on the computer. No viruses, I use Norton Antivirus. I also have an issue with the sound slider; sometimes I find it at the top right of the screen, sometimes at the top left, or at the bottom left, or in the middle. The problem is that a year later, after having no issues for 4 years, it starts again. But that night before it started again, I downloaded Battlefield 4 and suddenly, like a power outage, the PC shuts down. I have the new PC that is only a few weeks old; it does the same thing as the old one, but I was playing Star Wars: The Old Republic and suddenly, like a power outage, it shuts down. When I turn it on, I get the error message that Windows did not shut down properly. The BIOS starts up, but I suspect Windows 7 is causing the same issue on my old computer, and I fear it will happen again. So I’m likely going to format the new one to remove Windows 7 because, originally, it was the engineer who built the new one and installed Windows 7, and I would like to install Windows 8. Could you give me your opinion on this issue, because this is not normal; they shut down in the same manner, the old and the new.

thanks to dr.pc1. Having the same problem, black screen + mouse after a very long startup, I used the trick... it worked! It saved me from using the W7 disk for repair, etc. etc. I’m noting this super "tip" down on paper... thanks again.

Hello,
For your information, if this happens to others, the problem may be due to disk access permissions.
You need to connect the drive to another PC and try to access the drive. If "access denied" shows up, it means the permissions have been messed up.
(Windows boots from the second partition and then opens on c:\)
You should right-click on the inaccessible drive, go to properties.
In the security tab, click on "advanced," then click on "change permissions" and in the new window add the group "everyone" with full control.
Check the box "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" and click on OK.

Hello,
I had the same black screen problem, but this time it was due to a fraudulent malware installation on my PC while I was downloading software from a 'website'. Anyway, after cleaning... my screen appeared completely black with the mouse pointer in the middle.
To resolve this issue, here is the solution that worked for me:
1-I managed to log in by entering my password.
2-With the home screen being all black, I pressed ctrl+alt+delete to access the task manager.
3-Once in the task manager, I right-clicked on any running program and opened its folder location, which directly allowed me to access my files.
4-Thus, I went to the desktop where there is a shortcut to the control panel, which I clicked on and opened. I followed the path: system and security, then security and maintenance. I ultimately initiated the recovery (or restoration of my Windows) to the state it was in before the crash (i.e., 2 days prior). And there you go. I hope I could help someone in the same situation. Good evening, I recently faced this problem at my high school. Indeed, I had frozen one of the computers at my school with the software DeepFreeze, and the "IT administrator" at my school saw it. Being unable to uninstall DeepFreeze (since I froze the computer with my password), they performed a manipulation that put the computer in this state.
