PC : Black screen with active mouse under Windows 7

Question

Hello everyone.  My PC is acting up.... it's a Sony running Windows 7.  When I start Windows normally, I see the Windows logo (starting Windows...) and then I end up with a black screen with the mouse cursor (high screen definition). CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work. When I start Windows in safe mode, CLASSPNP.SYS is the last file displayed, and I find myself with the black screen and the mouse cursor (lower screen definition). Again, nothing works. When I start Windows with the command prompt in safe mode, CLASSPNP.SYS is the last file displayed, and I end up with the black screen and the mouse cursor (lower screen definition). Once more, nothing works: no command prompt...  If you have any wise advice to wake the PC from its coma, feel free to share! Bertrand

Thank you,  My problem is that I have a black screen and an active mouse... that's it... nothing else appears. :-(  Unfortunately, no access to the Start menu... so no access to the recovery menu.  If you have another idea, it is welcome!

Startup Repair: The system reboot tool did not detect any problems. System Restore: No restore point has been created on your computer's system drive System Image Recovery: no image created previously Windows Memory Diagnostic: No problems have been detected thus far Command Prompt: - Chkdsk C: /f /r comment: the file system type is NTFS o Windows checked the file system and found no problems. - Chkdsk D: /f /r comment: the file system type is NTFS o Windows made corrections to the file system (chkdsk found marked allocated free space in the master file table bitmap.) -  I disconnect the power cord I remove the battery I press the power button for at least 30 seconds I reconnect everything and try again ? Nothing changes  Conclusion: Still a black screen and apart from the mouse, nothing works. Do you have any other ideas?? Thank you in advance!!

Hello,  sorry, I was busy...  I see a solution, back up your data and restore to factory settings.  For your data, download this:  https://ubuntu.com/  you burn it to a CD as an ISO image  you start this ISO CD on the sick PC, make sure to select "Try Ubuntu" and NOT install. you should have access to your data, and save it to an external storage device: USB stick, external hard drive...     -- "The little I know, I owe it to my ignorance" (Sacha Guitry) No responses from 5-6 PM, thank you for your understanding :)

Problem solved! Data retrieved... Just need to install a new Windows!  I have a Windows license number but not the DVD that goes with it! I will investigate!  Thank you! Thank you!

Hello,  in principle, to reinstall, you boot your PC by tapping the F10 key as soon as it starts, and you'll access the factory restore menu, which will allow you to reinstall your PC to the state it was in when you bought it.
