Screwed up in a laptop

1 - If the screw isn't too stripped, try using a professional screwdriver; it usually works better.

2 - If you can reach the screw, try making a side groove with a saw and then use a flat screwdriver.

3 - If the other two solutions don't work, you'll have to drill the screw with a drill. Use a bit just the size of the screw to only remove the head, but you really have to be careful with a laptop; I think a pillar drill would be better.

It happened to me recently; I thought the screw was dead and only saw drilling as a way out. The impression was almost round, but I managed to get it out with a professional screwdriver.

Is it really that essential?

If it is not essential, you can drill as mentioned before; if no solution that has already been suggested works, there are this kind of tool, screw extractors > http://cjoint.com/11dc/ALFlQQJPoBi.htm, just make a small hole in the screw and insert the extractor that is reverse-threaded, so by unscrewing, it will fit into the hole and unscrew the screw. See if someone can lend you one because it's a tool we hardly ever use.
