Sony TV not working

Solved/Closed

Hello,
my old SONY Trinitron model KV-FX2921B with a 72 cm screen has just broken down. But when I connect the VCR with the SCART cable, it works for the 6 channels.
I want to repair it myself without any knowledge, just using the manual.
Question: which part needs to be replaced? And where can I find a second-hand one?
Thanks for your advice. It's a TV that's over 10 years old and still holds up well!
Which part is causing this failure? Is it the tuner inside the TV?
Thanks to all of you.

Hello jpm,

Unfortunately, I can't help you. I actually have the same problem with my Sony TV. A red light blinks 5 times quite rapidly, then there’s a pause of 2 or 3 seconds and it starts blinking five times again. In the meantime, my TV is not on and isn't working. Did you find a solution before I throw it away? Thanks.

Hello, I have a KV-32 FQ86B whose red light is flashing, it makes some sound, cuts off after about 4 seconds, and does this several times before finally starting. Whether on Freebox HD or regular TV, I don't feel it’s the same in both cases.
What needs to be replaced and where?
What is the function of this part?
Thank you in advance.

I have a similar problem (blinks 3 times, stops, then blinks 3 times...) with my Sony KV, you recommend changing a part, can you tell me what it looks like and how much it costs? Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem. What is an IC and is it expensive to replace?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you all,
the TV antenna socket is connected directly to the VCR. The scart cable connects the VCR to the TV. And that’s how it works.
So where does the issue in the TV come from?
Thank you

Damn Sony.... a mix of various quality parts......for the repairers, there is a code that is in the number of times the red light flashes when we try to restart it. 14 flashes, it's the high voltage transformer with 2 other parts before it... and in this case, the cost is not worth it, because it will fail again....
for my part, I have given up on this brand that once was glorious.

Hello,
I have already explained my problem, but it seems that I did not understand how to make my request appear. So I have the famous power supply issue with my Sony LCD TV.
The repair dealer told me that the power supply board needed to be replaced, but given the outrageous price, I refused. I disassembled and reassembled the TV without making any changes; the fuse was fine, and the switch seemed to be working. I then reassembled the TV, which miraculously started working again, so I protested to the repairman, who said that an intermittent power supply issue had been detected.
I would like to know how Sony detects malfunctions; it’s probably not based on the blinking of the red LED.
Is it with the help of a memory stick or some other device that serves as a test bench, which determines the location of the failure and possibly the defective part?
If anyone has details on this subject, I would be happy.
Thank you.

According to my repairman, the number of blinks of the red diode is used to indicate the fault of the device.
14 is the power supply, the others I don't know.

It is necessary to change the UHF/VHF tuner; it's a well-known issue with SONY.
I need to obtain the exact model and type of the chassis, along with a photo of the disassembled tuner if possible (that's the part where you plug in your antenna plug).
Best regards.

Hello,
As an information note, Sony devices often have soldering issues at the tuner level.
What you need to do:
Disassemble the tuner and redo as many questionable-looking solder joints as possible. You will have a 9 out of 10 chance of getting it working again. After that last chance, if it doesn't work, then unfortunately, the tuner will need to be replaced ;(

I have a 74cm Sony Trinitron television that has a power supply issue; it won't start and only the red LED blinks. I have replaced some capacitors in the power supply, but the problem persists.

I have a Sony Trinitron 59cm TV that doesn't turn on; the red LED lights up, the voltage is 135 volts, and it is found on the transistor line, but the flyback transformer (THT) doesn't start.

Thank you for the sun...

A good piece of advice, don't buy any Sony TVs, the Trinitron doesn't last long due to the choice of poor quality parts, mine gave up the ghost after 3 years, which is one year after the warranty ended... cost of the repair €465 (high voltage transformer + board + various....) on a set that cost €800 and Sony in its great generosity offers €127 for coverage... my previous Brandt set lasted 15 years
Consider yourself warned

Sorry for your situation, I have a 32-inch "Trinitron" which is now over 12 years old and it works like new, no breakdowns and the color is still just as beautiful.
I'm not comparing it to today's LEDs but to others!! I had a Thomson before that gave up on me after 5 years.

Change the tuner.

Hello,
what luck, mine barely lasted 24 months and cost €250 in repairs..... to the bin.
With Sony, you don't change a part but a complete module.
Check with a repairman or at Emmaus who might have that on a scrap unit. Good luck.

Yes, SONY is total crap... NEVER AGAIN THIS BRAND for TVs...!
Same tuner problem with flickering and no picture, except after half an hour of restarts... I repeat, SONY is really to AVOID...!

Hi,

I don't know anything about it, like you, but it seems that the problem might come from the tuner or the antenna...

Hello,
I don't think it comes from the antenna, since the TV works with the VCR. But question: is there a tuner in a VCR that could substitute for the defective one in the TV? Is there a technician on this forum who could answer me?
Thanks to everyone

I don't know much about it either, but if I may give you one piece of advice:
If you really don't know anything about it, don't touch it!
There are certain parts under high voltage, and you can get a shock even after unplugging it, as capacitors can hold a charge for a certain period of time.

Is there a tuner in a VCR that could replace the broken one?
Yes, most video devices (especially those that record) are now sold equipped with tuners.
It seems there is indeed a good chance that it is the tuner that has reached the end of its life; replacing it is at your own risk, knowing that a professional will be able to tell you much better if it is indeed the tuner.

Thank you Yoan!
The internal tuner might be out of order.

hello
according to what you said, you must have a problem with your tuner
does your device have an automatic tuner or a manual tuner
(with a drawer that opens)
if so, it's a contact issue with the drawer
another possibility is that the TV cable connecting the scope to the TV is damaged
you can try unplugging the antenna cable that goes into the scope and plug it directly into the TV

Hello,

I'm experiencing pretty much the same problem with my TV.
When I connect the SCART cable from my VCR, I can get the movie, but the TV channels still don't work....
Is the problem coming from the antenna? Or the tuner??
Please help me, I really don't know anything about these things.

Hello,

I just acquired an LCD television.
After connecting an analog tuner to the television via a DVD recorder, I want the EXT channel (AV1) to be the default one when I turn on the television.

Is this possible?

Hi, I have a big problem with my Sony Trinitron:
I have no video input whether it's AV1, AV2, or AV3, nothing, no image or sound
I tested my DVD player on another TV equipped with a different DVD player that works -> same result, but when I swap the players, nothing works anywhere ???
I am looking for a technical manual or a list of faults and causes/effects
thank you

Hello,
these Trinitron were made by Sony with an assembly of boards from different brands, not very serious for Sony
2 boards to change then the transformer: I threw in the towel (200 € for parts + labor: pointless to repair garbage)
Thank you Sony: it was 3 and a half years old
I switched to Panasonic plasma

Hello

My TV of the same model as yours is working, but it's the speakers that are problematic; I can't seem to get them connected inside (the two wires that attach behind). Can you help me, please?

my TV is still at the repair shop, but if I remember correctly, the speakers are built-in!!

Hello, I have a Sony Trinitron KV 21 CL 10 B that is broken today,
it turned off by itself, and since it has been turned on, it only makes a ticking sound with no image and no red LED lit either.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Thank you for your responses!
