Hello,
I have owned a Sony DCR-SR190 camcorder for just 2 years and was delighted with it until now. Recently, the screen alternates between dark and light, revealing what looks like a loose connection or something similar. I looked around on the net and decided to take it apart. After removing the screen from the unit, I traced the ribbon from the hinge to its ends. One end (the wider one) is well seated in its female socket. The other end is less wide and after two turns on the hinge ends up fixed on a kind of circuit board piece with a kind of contact on one of its faces. After many attempts at different positions and placements, I left it movable where it seems to go.
The problem is that I don’t really know where it was fixed or how.
I reassembled the device and the contact problems remain the same.
Since then, I also have a disk error, format not recognized and the HDD that flashes.
Tomorrow I’ll dismantle again to see more clearly.
If anyone has an idea, an internal plan of this camera or anything else that could be useful to me, I thank you in advance.
If I allowed myself to dismantle it, it’s also because its warranty is barely expired and I find myself unemployed, unable to cover such repair costs. The urgency to repair is stressful; my eleven-year-old daughter is doing her end-of-year show this Friday the 12th and I can’t resign myself to missing that moment.
Thank you all for your support and your good advice.

Hello,
I also had a yellow screen issue on my DCR-SR190E. It didn’t cause a problem before. But today, the touchscreen no longer responds. It shows up but doesn’t respond to my requests. I think the cable (flex) needs to be replaced. But before any disassembly, I’d like to recover the videos I took this weekend. How can I connect my camcorder to the computer without using the touchscreen?
Thank you for your responses.-
After many false contacts, the connection finally gave out. I bought the ribbon for 49 € at VOIR in Paris to replace it. They sent it to me after receiving my check, so about a week of delay, which is very reasonable. The assembly went well except for the small ribbon that ends up with "a kind of contact," as described by the creator of this topic. Basically, it's a switch that inverts the image orientation on the LCD screen (to have the image upright when you rotate the screen 180 degrees). But since I avoid these excessive rotations, which are surely one of the causes of this defective ribbon problem, not being able to reassemble it properly doesn’t bother me.

Hello,
I solved the issue by ordering the cable here for 50 euros shipping included.

See and prefer with them payment by bank transfer, checks have the risk of getting lost. When dismantling, make sure to identify the screws that go on plastic and those that go on metal. It’s not magic, just a bit meticulous. The ribbon cable goes back in fairly easily and also be careful with the hard drive, it only works in one direction, don’t hesitate to test before reassembling everything.
Good luck but it’s worth it. -
Good evening, service manuals for some devices are available on the net, often you have to pay to get them, but I haven't found one for your cam, freely accessible... Try to find it... For tomorrow, it will be just to help you out with this kind of cam... We can't do direct acquisition on a portable with these models... it could have helped. sorry I can't help... Have one lent to you!

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem as you, and it obviously happened to me on vacation!
My camcorder is 3 years old, and the problem started with the screen, images turning yellow! Except that what I was filming looked fine—the images were normally colored when I watched them! And now, the screen turns off, unless I barely open it to film! The camcorder also sometimes doesn’t respond. It seems like the screen is draining the battery!
I thought it was a battery issue, but I’m surprised it doesn’t last longer, especially since I don’t use the camcorder very often (only on vacation or for events). My screen problem seems to be like yours!
Has anyone checked with Sony? isn’t it a defect of these camcorders?
Thanks for your responses

thank you toto, regarding the manual, it’s just for the use. Too late, I couldn’t repair in time. I removed again, this little piece fixed to a loom seems to be a switch with a tiny piece of black plastic that would actuate on closing and opening. This piece being movable, it doesn’t perform its function properly. I’m still seeking information on troubleshooting this cam; after the kids’ singing Brassens concert on Friday, there’s still the gymnastics gala on Sunday, then vacation departures at the end of June!!!
I remain hopeful to receive good info about the troubleshooting; failing that, I think I’ll try to immobilize this piece in the place that seems to be its own with a drop of glue.
Still open to your responses, suggestions, advice.
Thanks to everyone -
Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem as you: the same hardware, 2 years and 3 months old, and the screen shows exactly the same symptoms. It goes from dark to normal and then the camera stops abruptly. While surfing the net a bit, it seems that Sony camcorders have a big reliability issue with the wire (cable) that connects this little screen to the body of the device. The cable gets cut and creates bad contacts. I think I’m going to try dismantling the screen as well and see what’s wrong. -
Hello everyone,
Great news: Part received and compliant. Super fast delivery: bravo to Ste VOIR. For replacing this part, you indeed have to be careful. The photos taken during the dismantling of the camcorder were of great help during reassembly. The camcorder now works wonderfully and all of this for less than 50 euros. My vacation is saved!!!
Thanks again.

Hi,
I’ve run into the same hassle myself while in the middle of the vacation.
I found a Sony spare-parts site.
http://shop.euras.com/geraetesuche_live.php?manstr=&modstr=&fullsearch=&whichpage=1&modselect=764621&herst=SONY&bezmod=DCRSR190E&typ=&suchbg=&hersteller=&art=&artgroup=4186000000&login=708626
But there are two ribbon cables, the FP621 and the FP610. Which one is for the screen?
I started looking at how to dismantle the camcorder; you basically have to take almost everything apart. -
Hi,
I don’t have the exact reference of the part. I contacted the shop "Voir" (see messages above) by phone in Paris and they sent exactly the part needed after I explained what I wanted (about 50 euros). I just gave them the reference of the camcorder.
On the other hand, a lot of pieces on the camcorder do have to be dismantled. The only advice I can give you is to take photos (a lot of photos!) during disassembly. For me, it took 2 hours to dismantle enough pieces to access the defective ribbon cable (and more than 80 photos). 1.5 hours to reassemble everything. Keep in mind that you should never force a piece.
Hope I answered your questions.

Hello,
The same problem for 3 weeks. The screen gradually lost its colors, when opened by a third it worked, then now no image and it even cuts the camcorder after about twenty seconds.
So I’m also looking now for a solution if possible, economical, to repair this. Sony DCR-SR190E
What’s annoying is sending the camcorder for repair when the vacation videos and photos are inside. If they don’t touch the hard drive it’s okay, but you never know. And we don’t like that a stranger sees our photos.
