Hello everyone,
Here is something new, my penguin starts normally in theory, with the nice blue Kubuntu logo (Starting processes, mounting, etc ...), then a small black screen (as usual, for 1/8 of a second), but instead of starting KDE it shows me the blue Kubuntu logo again and nothing happens :-( And I could wait for the night of time like this. On the other hand, when I do Ctrl-Alt-Del, it shuts down very nicely (unmounting ...).
No way to start it with the old kernel either (I can choose two kernels), same problem.

Normally yesterday I launched the update of two packages, otherwise nothing special :-/

I can start in command line, I hope a diagnosis can be made.

Thank you.

Warning: do not perform the last update of dapper!

The last update of xserver-xorg may render your X server unusable. If you have already performed the update, reinstall the previous version of the package with the command: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10

    Hi,

Normally, yesterday I started the update of two packages, otherwise nothing special :-/
Which packages? If it was related to X, there’s a good chance that’s where the problem lies ;-(

Otherwise, once you see your nice blue Kubuntu logo in full screen, try switching to a virtual console (CTRL + ALT + Fx) or (ALT + Fx), log in (as root) and check the latest messages from the commands:
    dmesg tail -20 /var/log/messages tail -20 /var/log/Xorg.log
For the last one, the file might be named differently depending on the distribution, so adapt accordingly ;-))

    Hello,
    Um, what is "Fx"? :)
Otherwise, in Xorg.0.log it tells me:
(EE) No devices detected Fatal server error: no screens found

    I suppose that's it?

I normally have a copy of Xorg.conf, before I installed the Nvidia drivers. But the thing is, this driver has been installed for a while now, and the problem has only come up recently.

    Hello,

    Uh, what is "Fx"? :)

x takes the value from 1 to 6 for virtual consoles

    Ctrl+Alt+F1
    .
    .
    Ctrl+Alt+F6

    Hi,
OK, but I can connect by selecting "recovery mode".
Changing xorg.conf doesn't solve the problem. I see there is another xorg.conf.backup, I will try the second one.
EDIT: It doesn't work with the second backup either :(

Is there no way to undo the updates?
