Carte XD Olympus "Erreur Carte"

Agnes -

Hello,
For some time now, my device has not been accepting more than the first three or four photos taken! That is to say, it took them fine and all, but it was impossible to see them afterwards: "err card". By keeping them, I could take more without wasting 3 at the beginning!
However, for the past few days I can no longer see any photos either on the PC or the device; it shows 'err card' and I can't take any photos!
It suggests formatting the card, which I've tried, but even formatting it doesn't work! And the PC doesn't read the card! (we put the card in the unit, lost the cable :s)
Thank you in advance!!
Configuration: Olympus Camedia C-460Zoom Digital Camera Acer PC Windows XP

Hello,

Please do the following:

Insert your card and right-click on 'This PC':

Manage and Disk Management.
What is the filesystem of your card, please?

Hello,

Above the lines of the different drives, you have:
Volume, Layout, Type, and File System.

Well, uh, I'm really bad at this, but I don't see! Is it on the card or the PC?
I tried right-clicking on "My Computer," and it doesn't even recognize the card, even though there's a green light that comes on the PC!

Hi,
She doesn't notice it, so I can't see...

Re,

Position your card.

If you go to the command prompt:
start, programs, accessories, command prompt

You type the name of your drive where the card is located EX: (E:) and hit enter.

Then DIR and enter, what does it give?

If it returns nothing, try with another PC or possibly with a MAC and try formatting to FAT file system (very important, FAT).

If that does not yield anything, there is not much left to do.

It says "the device is not ready"
I don’t have another computer available...
Could it have anything to do with the antivirus?

Re,

If there was any connection with the PC, your card would work on your camera.

It seems that it has suffered damage during reading on the PC or on the camera.

Go to a photographer equipped with a DIGITAL MACHINE.

A real specialist (like Photo service, Phox) teaches (Fuji, Kodak, Konica, Agfa).

Avoid large stores and Fnac (even equipped), their staff does not always have the required skills.

Ask them to open the card on their machine as if they were making a print with it.

If they manage to open it, ask them for a CD burn and to format your card in FAT SYSTEM.

Good luck P2.

Thank you! I'll try to find that on Friday!
At worst, I'll buy a card, luckily it wasn't very important photos on it!
Thanks for the advice!!

Re,

If that doesn't work, try to get it exchanged at the store where you bought it.

Golden rule for cards:

Never format with a PC (except in extreme cases and make sure it's FAT).
Always remove your card from the PC using the taskbar icon.
Do not turn off the camera right after taking a photo.
Never remove or insert a card into the camera while it is on.
Always keep it in its protective plastic case when out and about.
Avoid touching the contacts with your fingers.

I’ve been doing this since 1997 with several cameras using different cards and I’ve never had any problems.

See you, P2

Hi
I have the same problem as Agnès, except that I followed your instructions and found the file systems (there are 2):
BACKUP>FAT2 and HDD (C:)>NTFS. What should I do next?
Thank you in advance.

Hello
I have a problem with my XD picture card (type H 512 MB). Whenever it's in my Olympus camera, it says "ERR CARD." What should I do to recover my photos since I haven't formatted it?
Thank you very much.

Although this forum doesn't seem to be active anymore, I still feel free to provide a solution that worked for me. The first thing to do is to start the camera without the memory card, then enter the settings menu which gives you the option to format the card. Insert the card back into the camera and try formatting it, which should work very well in this case. If the menu disappears when you insert the card, press the menu button several times and it should appear. Good luck to everyone facing this common little problem.

Thank you a thousand times, I have an Olympus 720 SW and I take a lot of outdoor photos (type akunamatata and flickr in Google)
I have two XD cards (1 Go and 2 Go), the 1 Go card declared itself write protected when I did a risky maneuver with a Mac, unusable for 8 months...
The 2 Go card has started to decline recently, with only a third of its capacity available.
Elgringo's procedure saved me and restored all the cards!!

Phew!!!

Using the RECUVA software... you might be able to recover some photos.

Hello
I also have an Olympus Camedia C750 - the camera is 3 years old - but it's important to know that some cameras do not work or only partially function after a while, just 2 or 3 photos and it's impossible to format with 1 GB memory cards, check the incompatibilities on the Olympus website, so I'm stuck with a maximum of 512 MB.

Good evening Deutz,

I have an Olympus Camedia, digital camera C-350 Zoom and I can't use a 1 GB Fujifilm card type M.
I searched for the update but couldn't find anything. How do we go about doing that?

Thank you in advance.

do not put an xd card in a card reader, use the usb cable
microsoft cannot process flash drives
they are technologically outdated,
keep the photos or copy to another medium
to my knowledge, it is impossible to recover

Nonsense: I was reading SD cards on a laptop back in 2003 running XP. No issues, neither reading, nor deleting, nor writing. However, in principle, you need to manage deletions through the device.

Bonjour, j'ai acheté un Olympus SP 560 UZ avec une carte xD de 1 Go, faut-il faire une manipulation avant de prendre des photos, pour éviter d'avoir des problèmes "erreur de carte", merci d'avance.

I have the same issue with my Olympus and my 512 SD card that was provided with it.
By proceeding in the same way, it doesn't work either; it endlessly asks me to configure the card:
exit or format, to which I choose format. It then asks me yes or no, so I select yes, but it responds "busy" (not more than 2 seconds) and goes back to card configuration. I can't do anything else as long as the SD card is in it. If you could help me, thank you in advance ^^
