Too fast boot, no access to BIOS?

Hello,

As the title of this topic explains, my computer starts quickly and when it boots up, Windows 7 loads directly.

For now, I have no issues with my computer, but if one day I have to reinstall Windows, I feel it might not go well...

I had the bright idea of listening to a friend who, I thought, knew a lot about computers. He told me to enable fast boot in the BIOS settings. The problem is that he isn't able to resolve this issue... At least I know I won't be taking his advice on important topics like the BIOS anymore.

I suppose I'll have to tinker with the registry, except I don't have much knowledge in this area.

Thank you for your attention :)

Configuration: Windows 7, Google Chrome

Initially, the computer started normally:
- Startup display with the keys to press for BIOS access and boot options listed below.
- Loading Windows.

The problem only started after the "Fast Startup" option was enabled in the BIOS. It completely skips the first step.

And I really can't access the BIOS. I've tried many restarts while spamming various keys, but nothing works.

P.S.: Thanks for the note about the registry, I'll feel less foolish next time :)

Astonishing.......unless there is a keyboard problem. The keyboard shouldn't be USB.
In desperation, reset the BIOS using the jumpers on the motherboard or by removing the battery.
But it's silly to end up there..........:-/

Try my solution first, it's less extreme :o
Moreover, it is usually expected that we can access the BIOS / UEFI via a USB keyboard ... I do it in any case ... To confirm that it doesn't come from there, check if your keyboard works (try turning on the LED associated with caps lock or num lock)

Yes, I also never said it wasn't possible, simply when there are keyboard-related issues, it's preferable to switch back to a classic PS/2, which is natively supported by the BIOS.
In any case, since it was a laptop...................

Hi
The BIOS has nothing to do with the register.

You just need to access the BIOS at the right moment. If it's a graphical BIOS like UEFI, it is indeed very quick, and you also need to use the right key. The fact that fast boot is enabled does not affect entry into the BIOS; it remains possible at all times.

The "BIOS reset" suggested by Flo88 led me to the idea of updating the BIOS.

This reset several options to default and my problem is solved :)

Thank you both for your help!

P.S.: laptop, so built-in keyboard and the BIOS access key was indeed F2, and I didn't have access even when spamming.

I don't know what OS you're running.

I have a solution that will probably work. It's a bit excessive for my taste, but your problem is so strange that it's hard to fix without being in front of the screen...

Anyway, if you have Windows 7, can you do this?

-> Computer
-> Right-click -> Properties
-> Advanced system settings
-> Under Startup and recovery, click on Settings
-> Choose the desired time and check the corresponding box.

Let us know if this changes anything. By the way, make sure to press the right key, at least that way we know it won't come from there! :D

Hi,

When you start the computer and spam the right key (depends on the motherboard, either F2, F5, F8, or Delete), you can't access the BIOS? That would be very surprising!

Edit: With UEFI, I'm not sure if they've chosen any other keys yet... If none work, check your motherboard manual or search online ;)
