Hello,
as an intern at a company specializing in IT, my boss asked me to repair a PC he just bought (a Packard Bell Easy Note LJ65).
So far, I think I'm still understandable, so here's my problem: I plug in the PC, I turn it on, that's fine so far, I press F2 to go into the BIOS, and then "please wait ..." appears. I see it's taking time, so I go tend to another PC for 5 minutes, I come back and it still says "please wait."
My question is the following: How can I access this famous BIOS?
P.S.: the PC doesn't get past the Packard Bell splash screen, so it's impossible to access the current OS, which is Windows 7.
Best regards, Cyril.

Hello everyone,
Actually, the only way to reprogram the BIOS (flashing) of this rather particular machine:
You need to prepare a USB key with the BIOS file to program (ask me for it at olympe14 at hotmail dot com). I had put it on the right side of the LJ65.
Then:
- maybe disconnect the hard drive, remove all CDs ... etc. if you know how to do it.
When I did it on my half-disassembled wreck, there was no other boot option possible than the USB key.
- remove the battery
- disconnect the power supply
- press and hold the FN + ESC keys
- connect the power supply
- press the power button
- still holding the keys, wait about a minute for the fan to start, the screen will not turn on, that's normal, but the USB light blinks when you release the keys
- the USB blinks like that for several minutes, I didn't time it!!! maybe 15?
- do not touch anything until the PC shuts down and the flashing of the USB stops
On the next boot, you have control over the setup and it's done.
WARNING: only do this if the LJ65 is completely stuck and cannot access anything.... completely DEAD!
This kind of attempt is of course VERY RISKY on a functioning device!
It seems long but can be done within half an hour, for me at least three days of research...
Good luck and please keep me informed
Sincerely,
Henri

I solved the problem; with the power and battery connected, start up while holding down the fn and esc keys.
Little bump on the topic, I have the same problem, the BIOS freezes
it is version 2.09 (the oldest available on the Packard Bell site)
I downloaded version 2.14
I then copied my BIOS file to a FAT formatted USB drive
I connect my USB drive, press Fn+Esc, connect my power supply, and start the beast, as recommended
the fan starts instantly (not after a few minutes as written), my USB drive blinks for 5 seconds and the PC shuts down... without having updated the BIOS, on the next boot I am still on 2.09 and the problem persists...
do I need to rename the BIOS file to trigger it?

Hello,
thank you all for your solutions.
for those who are still having this problem, here’s a simple step for you:
1> download the lj65 2.14 bios
2> format a usb stick in fat32
3> retrieve the file KAYFO214.FD from the DOS folder you downloaded, then rename it to KAYF0X64.FD on your usb stick
4> plug the usb stick into your laptop and press fn and esc at the same time
then plug in the power cord and wait for the pc to turn off
about 20 to 30 seconds and your bios is back :)
good luck
thanks to henri, haekos, and fredo
it’s true for those who don’t know much
it’s a bit of a hassle and simipi is not wrong
because I struggled to get this far
thank you all, I have a working pc now.

Hello,
- Trying to disassemble the hard drive is worth a shot, as well as clearing the CMOS (but that means opening it up). If it's under warranty, that's not great!
- Otherwise, attempt to reset the residual currents (press the power button for 1 minute without the battery or power supply) and then try again.
- Finally, ask your boss if anyone has tried flashing the BIOS or something like that. If not (it's new), back to the service center.

Hello,
I just had the same problem (stuck on the welcome screen and F2 with no result)
I removed both disks, booted up and miracle, F2 gives me access to the BIOS.
The first disk is dead and the SATA controller accessed it directly!!!
I hope to be somewhat useful to someone.

As soon as your PC wakes up, tap the F2 key on your keyboard several times.
On some keyboards, you need to enable the function keys from F1 to F12... do it... otherwise you'll still be here tomorrow.

Hello,
I'm digging this topic back up because I have exactly the same problem with a Packard Bell Easynote LJ65 and BIOS version v2.05.
I turn on the computer to find the page where it says PACKARD BELL in large letters and if I press F2 as indicated, it says "please wait" and nothing happens. And if I press "fn" and "esc" at the same time, I get to this page:
Insyde H20 EFI 2.0 NB
Copyright 19xx-2007 Insyde H20 Technologies Ltd..
All Rights Reserved
System BIOS Version : V2.05
BIOS Build Date : 09/01/2009
System Memory Speed : 0800MHz
Processor Type: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz
Channel 0 Master : WDC WD5000BEVT-22ZAT0
Channel 0 Slave : Slimtype DVD A DS8A4SH
I've tried everything: BIOS version 14, version 13, 12, 11, 10, and 09 (I couldn't find 05 for the LJ65 model) on a USB stick, on a CD with different names KAYF0X64.FD, KAYF0X64.ROM, KAYF0X64.BIN, reformatting the USB stick, pressing both keys and then plugging in and starting while keeping these two keys pressed, but nothing works. The fan starts up immediately and I go back to the "Insyde..." page or a black screen, the USB stick blinks for 5 seconds immediately and that's it. On the other hand, I don't know much about this, so I think I might have done something wrong, but honestly, I don't see what.
So, does anyone have a solution to propose?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
None of the keys like "F8" are working, the computer gets stuck on the Packard Bell startup screen with "Boot menu <F2>" written on it (it doesn’t go beyond the Packard Bell screen). So I press the F2 key and "please wait" appears; I waited for over 45 minutes this afternoon but nothing happened... Being a bit of a "nervous type", I pressed F2 several times, but is there a special method to do it? I read on some forums that installing Ubuntu from a bootable USB drive might solve my problem, but it’s impossible to boot from it since I can’t access the BIOS. I thought about removing the BIOS battery; could this solve my problem? I also read on other forums that I could make a "short circuit" with a metal object between two "traces" near the RAM cards (this method is used to remove the BIOS password); is this another possibility to try?
Best regards, Cyril.

Hey man
First, I think you need to make sure that to access the BIOS it's F2 because the PCs are different: some are F11, F8, and F2.
So first check which category it belongs to among these.

thank you all, I applied the procedure on my lj67 and it lasted about 20 seconds and it worked well.

HELLO! Wake up, sleepy subject!
I have the same problem with my Packard Bell Easy Note LJ65 and I followed the same procedure
RESULT: FAILURE
What I did: formatted my USB stick to FAT32
installed on the USB stick: BIOS + Flashit + KAYOX64 (= KAYO214 RENAMED)
hard drive, battery, and DVD drive removed
I insert my USB stick
I press FN and ESC continuously
I plug in the power and press start (FN and ESC still pressed)
---> the fan starts right away along with the Packard Bell startup page with the usual message "press F2 for setup". Then a black screen with scrolling messages appears. I stop pressing FN and ESC, it doesn’t do anything.
In the end, it displays:
Broadcom undi DXE -2-13v11.4.1

PXE-E61: Media test failure check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
Remove the disk
Press a key to restart
And if I restart, it shows me the same thing!
