=> Problem:
Unable to reconfigure a laptop:
TOSHIBA SATELLITE U500 - 1EO PSU9BE - 00800QFR
Operating system: Windows 7 - 32 bit.
=> Explanation:
A week ago, I was pleased to see that a hidden 300MB partition was configured on the machine. I used the TOSHIBA information to restore factory settings, by pressing F8 at startup, choosing repair, using TOSHIBA HDD Recovery and following the instructions as in this post: "https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/17839-restaurer-un-ordinateur-toshiba-a-son-etat-d-usine"
And there, great, it works.
=> Problem (yes... this is where the brain falters):
Due to an update error, the computer no longer wants to start.
=> The rascal! <=
From the start, it tries to find a solution by itself but will never find one (surprising!). I thought: "Not a bad idea! I'll redo the process to restore factory settings!"
But the beast was smarter than me! Indeed, at startup, F8 had no effect anymore... it was like tapping into the void!
I then tried all the strategies, from the most serious to the most curious that you can find on the NET: "Try F5, F11, O, Insert Windows CD..." and nothing works! I then reinstalled Windows 7 on another partition while preserving the TOSHIBA recovery partition. I now have access to my DATA/HDDRecovery drive again...
Now, the F8 key works again, I can repair the computer, but when I get to the "System Recovery Options" menu, the "TOSHIBA HDD Recovery" option is no longer there! However, the hidden partition and HDDRecovery are still present!
I tried a repair with my Windows CD... not possible! And I didn't make a system recovery DVD as I saw that there was an internal recovery system...
How can I restore access to this pesky "TOSHIBA HDD Recovery" or at least, get this machine functioning again?
WARNING: Some little sly foxes might say "Well, if you have the Windows 7 CD, just format everything and reinstall." But it's more complicated than that! My Windows CD is just a trial CD for 3 months, after which my operating system will be blocked! I only wanted a trial period to try to unlock my PC and not buy a full license! Especially since I've already paid for one in the price of my TOSHIBA!

Hello, if it can help, I also have a satellite laptop P300L that I reformatted today, June 28, 2011. I press F8 and repair the computer and then just follow the instructions (reconfigured to factory settings) A+ (I don't have any installation CDs).
After that, for better performance, I go to mesdriver.com to update.

My computer has unfortunately exceeded the 3-month warranty :s

If you have another PC, try to create a bootable live Ubuntu CD, then without installing Linux or Ubuntu, insert the CD into the drive and change the boot order in the BIOS, then press F10 and enter, and let the PC restart with the CD inside,
and see if the PC boots up. -
I tried to make a bootable Windows DVD. But it's impossible because otherwise we enter into illegality. As for Ubuntu, I don't know how it works? How does it work (so to speak) and especially, how could it solve my problem?

To reset the PC to factory settings, as if it just came out of the box for the first time (out of the box):
1) Press and hold the "power" button until the PC is turned off.
2) Press the 0 (zero) key, then hold it down while pressing the power button at the same time to turn it on.
3) When the startup screen appears, it may seem like the image on the screen is frozen as it will not progress any further in the steps.
4) At this point, you must release the 0 key.
5) You should see the recovery options appear.
6) Everything will then be reset, and you will lose all your data.
After selecting this option, you should be able to choose the Windows language again and make a choice between 32-bit and 64-bit, whichever is supported by the PC.
Then, if everything goes well, Windows will restart multiple times, but not too often: for certain drivers and after a few software installations.
As the installation screen is not very well explained, you can follow the steps by pressing the Windows logo key: located between CTRL and ALT, which will display the taskbar and the start menu.
A different process will be shown in this bar, the name indicates what is being installed. -
