Hello everyone,
I bought a refurbished Lenovo LOQ on Back Market. It is equipped with a German AZERTY keyboard (with the specific German keys such as Ä, Ö, Ü, etc.).
My goal is simply to use it as a French AZERTY keyboard. For the letters and numbers, it generally works, and the extra German keys don’t bother me since I don’t intend to use them.
However, the special characters (@, €, #, [], {}, etc.) are not mapped correctly. Many do not correspond to a French AZERTY or don’t work at all, which makes using the keyboard quite painful.
Under Windows 11, I have already tried several things:
- install the French (France) and German layouts;
- select French AZERTY as the keyboard;
- also test German – French AZERTY.
Nevertheless, the special characters remain incorrect.
Has anyone encountered this problem with a German keyboard? Is there a solution to completely remap the keys so that it behaves exactly like a French AZERTY, or should I use a specific software (Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, PowerToys, AutoHotkey, others...)?

Are you sure it’s AZERTY German, in principle German and with the characters in question is QWERTZ, but never mind.
Probably there is no other solution than a virtual keyboard or a software remapping, but it would be tedious and would ruin life, especially for the so‑called "third" keys with Alt Gr (for example at symbol, brackets...).
Never a good idea to buy it with the problem of special characters except in special situations like English-French, me, I would return it...
