The fan doesn't turn off in standby

Hello,
I set up an AMD Athlon 2600+ configuration with a computer-savvy friend in an Antec Sonata case. I chose this case because it was supposedly quiet. But the fans are noisy, including (and it’s increasingly annoying) in sleep mode: they never stop spinning.
Does anyone know what to do to make the fans stop when I switch to sleep mode?
Configuration: Pc AMD Athlon XP 2600+ running Windows XP Pro. Asus A7V600 motherboard.

Hum, I feel like everyone isn't talking about the same thing here,

there are 2 sleep modes,

mode S1 (POS), where the computer will turn off certain peripherals to save energy (screen, USB, hard drive,....) but the computer is still on and capable of performing calculations (hence the fans are running)
(it is in "stand by")

mode S3 (STR), here the computer shuts down all its functions, including the processor; only the RAM and one chipset remain powered to preserve the memory content. If it weren't for a blinking LED, one might think the PC is completely off since no fans are running.
(the PC is in sleep)

there is also hibernation mode (also called "deep sleep") which is just a saving of the system's state (by copying the content of the RAM to the hard drive) and then turns off. (it is indeed possible to unplug it)

When the PC is turned on, instead of creating a new environment, the system reconstructs the computer’s RAM from the hard drive.
(copying the RAM takes quite a while, the time saved is not huge compared to a restart; it is rather useful if you want to regain your work environment exactly as it was, more secure than S3 since the computer no longer depends on power but much less fast)

So for those whose fans remain on, it is in S1 sleep mode,
you need to change it in the BIOS menu.

Hi, I understood your message about the fans that don't stop when on standby.
However, once in the BIOS, I can't find your S1 or S3 option... Can you tell me how to access it to modify it? I don’t speak enough English to figure it out, and while I was using it, it was working normally, but I've never been into the BIOS. How is it possible that if that’s the case, the modification happened on its own? Possible virus or remote control?

Thanks a lot.

Hello,

Thank you for your explanations. Your last interlocutor could also have thanked you, especially him.
I have gone through the long list of responses, and it is truly disheartening! When one does not know, it is better to refrain than to proclaim falsehoods. At the very least, one must always consider that what one sees or believes is not necessarily the truth or a generality.
Your explanation of the various sleep modes is clear and will help many resolve this issue.
If I may add a little supplementary information, when your computer does not wake up from sleep mode, if it does not turn back on, it is possible that you have an incompatibility between the sleep mode in Windows and that of the BIOS, or at least a detrimental offset where your peripherals no longer send the wake-up signal.

Best regards.

Hi and thank you! I had moved this in my BIOS, mine says st1 or st2, and since I had also updated my graphics card with a beta thanks to you, I immediately understood and didn't waste any time reverting to my old driver. Thanks again! You're the boss!!!
