I had the same issue with icons that have a non-transparent shadow.
This happens when I set a background image, while with another one, there's no problem... and I finally understood:
To have shadows and text of icons transparent, you just need to use a BMP or JPG image. At least I was using a PNG image and the shadows were no longer transparent, I converted it to JPG format, and there, miracle, no more problem. -
It's clear... he didn't understand the question at all.
It's too bad, because I'm looking for exactly the same thing as Fatihlepro.
Namely: how to make the background of the text that appears under the desktop icons in Windows transparent.
I know that after a fresh installation, it's like that, but if you change this setting (for example, by changing the theme), it is no longer possible to go back...
If someone could enlighten us...
Thanks in advance. -
Hello,
Right-click on My Computer, click on Properties, Advanced, and check the relevant boxes while allowing Windows to choose the best configuration for my computer.
Best regards -
hi and even simpler :
Under XP, right-click on the desktop/ Arrange icons by/ Lock web items on the desktop. If this is checked, then colored icons; if unchecked, transparent icons.
Later. qatam -
Hello, like for all of you, my problem is as follows: a square shadow under my icons on the desktop... Not very aesthetic. I would like to know how to fix it, but first of all, you should know that I have already tried several manipulations without results, namely:
- in the control panel, performance advanced tab check or uncheck the box to use... blah blah
- on the desktop when they tell me to delete the indicated webpage first (I don't have one)
- I installed Microangelo without success
- I unchecked the option to show a shadow under the menus in the appearance tab
There you go, I think I haven't forgotten anything... If someone could help me it would be nice, I am on Windows XP and I hadn't had this problem before even when changing the wallpaper...
Thanks in advance! -
Hello,
yes, that is indeed the normal procedure: right-click on the desktop
Properties
Desktop
Desktop customization
Web tab
uncheck the option "Lock desktop items"
But sometimes depending on the origin of the desktop change, this procedure may not be satisfactory; the only one that guarantees 100% satisfaction is to go through "Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore /... then choose a date prior to the issue...... it's foolproof! @+ -
Hey, to get the transparent wallpaper on top of the icon text, it's not complicated.
Open a Notepad
and copy this into it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"ListviewShadow"=dword:00000001
Then in Notepad, go to File > Save As...
In the window that appears, select All Files for the file type and name it marke_restore.reg
Then click OK, go to where you saved marke_restore.reg, double-click on it, and restart your PC
And there you go, the icon text is transparent :) -
When I right-click I don't have settings, are you sure you're on XP??
Isn't there another solution? -

Hi,
If you want to have transparent icons like PNG, look for the software IconWorkshop from Axialis. You open the file and right-click to create a new icon...
Then you export the new icon (file-export-export as PNG with transparency) and that's it!!! You've got a transparent icon. -
Hi Joyce...
Actually, the question is not how to create an icon with a transparent background, but rather how to make the desktop icon backgrounds appear transparent instead of having a solid color block around them.
This is the default option when you install Windows, but this option goes away as soon as you change the appearance of your windows or when you modify the Windows theme, and it's (almost) impossible to go back.
However, I eventually found a link on this forum to an app that allows you to do that: iconoid.
It's a small utility for configuring icons and gives access to many hidden features... follow the link:
http://www.infos-du-net.com/telecharger/Iconoid,0301-2057.html-
Hello everyone. I understood your request well; there is a much simpler way than downloading and installing this software 'iconoid'. Go to the 'My Computer' icon, right-click and choose properties, then go to the 'Advanced' tab, in the 'Performance' area click on the 'Settings' button, choose the 'Visual Effects' tab and then select the radio button 'Custom settings'. In the list, check 'Use shadows for icon labels on the desktop' and finally confirm, and there you go.
Have a nice day everyone! -

Hello everyone, I'm sorry to ask for the same thing again, but here's the thing, I accidentally did something wrong and the text of my icons appeared with color, but I find it ugly, and I've looked at everything you've said, I've tried everything, even the iconoid thing but I don't understand anything, it's in English, I don't know how to do it, please help me, thank you.

Hello,
Right-click on My Computer, click on Properties, go to Advanced, and Performance Settings, and there check all the boxes while choosing let Windows choose the best...
Best regards. -
The problem I often encounter is that my PC freezes, interrupting everything I'm doing, and it only gets unblocked when I restore it.
Thank you. -
For your problem... the easiest thing is to do a system restore... to a date prior to your issue... everything will be back to normal.

Hello
Having had the same issue as you with the display of icons on the Windows desktop after changing the wallpaper, I realized that the file was in a different format than JPG and was a PNG. On the PNG, the text of the icons was on a colored background, so I changed my wallpaper to JPG and everything went back to normal.
So be careful about that. -
Here’s a simple trick on XP that worked for me: right-click on the desktop > Properties > Desktop > Color. Select a different color (e.g., white) > OK. All the icons disappear: No panic!
Right-click on the desktop again > Properties > Desktop > Color. Select a different color (e.g., blue) > OK.
In my case, this was enough to fix this "bug" in Windows and restore my desktop to its original appearance. -
Right-click on the desktop
Properties
Desktop
Desktop customization
Web tab
Remove the page indicated first
That's it
It worked for me too -
Hello everyone,
The easiest way to make the desktop icons' background transparent is as follows:
Right-click on the desktop
Properties
Desktop
Desktop customization
Web tab
uncheck the option "Lock desktop items" and that's it.
Finally, as for me: XP service pack 2.
Best regards,
Ramses
