issue with ASCII filter option

Question

Hi everyone,
I have a big problem with Open Office 2.0.
When I want to transfer a file from my desktop PC to my laptop via a USB stick or vice versa, I can no longer reopen that file on the other PC.
In fact, I have a window titled "ASCII filter options" that opens, and no matter what setting I select, my file opens written in hieroglyphs!!!
Knowing that I make sure not to save it as coded text!
What should I do? Or what could be the causes?

These are the same two versions, and we are saving in Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)...
Knowing that it worked very well before... Moreover, we checked, and both computers are configured the same way...

are you saving in Open Document Format or in Excel format?

test by saving as *.ODT (open document text)
there may be some problems if you change the file format or if you try to send a *.doc written with OpenOffice by email.
(I have already encountered the problem. (with Noos, Wanadoo, and AOL..))

have you tried burning your file to a CD (or another storage device other than your USB drive) and reading it on the second computer?

Hi there!
I had exactly the same problem!! I worked hard on it and I think I finally found a solution!... phew!!

Actually, it's really simple: I open a new folder on my USB drive and I copy/paste from the folder on my hard drive (copying the content rather than the folder itself). I save it and that's it!

In this way, I can transfer my files from one computer to another without ever having that problem again!...

There you go!...

I have exactly the same problem except that it's not the same.
For me, it's when I download a file from the internet and when I want to open it with Open Office, it first opens a window "ASCII Filter Options".
So now I don't know what to choose and it doesn't change anything
everything is written in hieroglyphs, it's annoying, and I can't fix it

I had this problem (file saved in Open Office Draw and sudden opening of the ASCII filter). After pulling my hair out (it took me at least 30 minutes to create that damn file), I did a search on my hard drive (I remembered the exact name of the file) and eventually found it, and Open Office started a recovery... So I immediately saved a copy as a PDF... Phew!!!

Hello,  I just had a problem with this filter as well. When I opened my Word document, this window popped up, and then all my text disappeared. Is there a way to recover it?  Thank you.

Hello, I have the same problem for the last 2 minutes, it's the first time it's happened to me, I can't open an OpenOffice .odt file, a small window pops up "FILTER OPTIONS ASCH", before that it was working very well, OpenOffice is not very reliable.
I really don't know what to do, thank you for your help.

Hello! For my part, I just opened the file and performed this maneuver: File>Save As>where it was written coded I chose *****.odt> Close and reopen the file and there you go, I hope this helps you.
