Choosing the right port for Vuze

Hello,
I'm new to Vuze 4.6.0.2 and I think I've made a mistake.
I wanted to increase the download speed by changing the incoming port but I forgot to note the default port.
I haven't been able to find one that actually increases the speed; on the contrary, it seems to have decreased. Are there ports that are more effective than others? I've already tried a bunch but with no results. Is there a correlation between the IP address and the port?
