Vuze - Azureus slow (but ports open)

Hello,
So here’s the thing, I did a search but as you can imagine when you type "Azureus slow" or "increase Azureus speed" you only find noobs who don't know how to open their ports, or people naively looking for a software to speed up their connection.

My problem is the following:
- I’ve been using torrenting for 2 years, and Azureus since I got a MacBook (for 4 months). Everything was fine, I could reach up to 450 KB/s, but for the last 1-2 weeks it’s stagnating around 120 KB/s.
- You’ll say: it’s your files that don’t have enough sources. Instead of answering myself, there’s only to take a quick look at the screenshot. Many files, many sources, everything you need to max out...

Do you have any idea what’s blocking? Is it the new version of Vuze Azureus?
How can I get back my maximum speed?

Thanks in advance!!!
Configuration: Mac OS X Firefox 3.0.1

    Hello,

I don’t quite understand your idea of a solution:
limiting the number of sources, that could rather reduce my download speed, right?
A large number of sources is strongly advised to get maximum speed, am I wrong?

I have the impression that this is the new version of the Azureus software that’s bad, but how can one be sure?

If you have too many sources per file, it can saturate your connection; you need a balance. I’ve never tried Azureus, I use uTorrent. good luck

It takes a lot of sources = little transfer because too many people have the file!!! So you share only a tiny part of it and therefore don’t progress quickly in uploading!!!! We must find the middle ground!

    Hi,
I live in Switzerland, I think my provider is Bluewin.

There aren’t any other computers connected to the Internet in the house.

    Speedtest:
    https://www.speedtest.net/result/314422993.png

Obviously, everything seems to work fine...

I should try another torrent program, but I first need to wait for my files to finish in Azureus...

Do you think it’s my connection, my computer, or Azureus that’s acting up?

    Thanks in advance!!

Do you usually download from so many sources, doing so many downloads at the same time? If that’s the case and there’s no obvious reason for this slowdown, I don’t know how I can help you, otherwise by finding the link to this Linux live CD that will give you almost a net-free heart on your ISP.

My humble opinion (however pedantic as a sentence starter and often prone to pretension…) would be that it comes from your connection and the number of sources; try to limit the number of sources to 250 per file, for example.

I’ll send you the link to this live CD...

    Hi Ulyss74,

I had exactly the same problem as you (but always on Windows XP) and by trying another BitTorrent client, everything sorted itself out! I therefore suppose it’s all Azureus Vuze’s fault, which, in addition to taking more and more resources, started lowering our transfer speeds...

So switch to a simpler client (BitTorrent, BitTornado, etc...). Moreover, you can reopen your Azureus torrents by clicking on your torrent files to open them with your new client... By specifying the same save location, they’ll check themselves and resume from where they were.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply!

I tried to continue my torrents with another torrent client (Transmission in this case) but the downloads start from zero each time...

Hi, actually it's all good, you just need to click "verify local data".

I'll see what happens. I hope Transmission will live up to its promises!

      Hi Ulysse,

What do you mean by "check local data"? Where do we find that in azureus?

    I hope so for you!
It would still be stupid to start from scratch!
On the other hand, the sharing rate starts at zero and so all the upload has to be redone...
Anyway, you can't ask for the butter, the money for the butter, and the dairymaid's ass!

with Vuze the best yield and when a maximum of 04 sources are active, whether seed or leech, go through BitTorrent you won't have this problem

For information, after many tests on multiple machines, multiple clients, and multiple ISPs, I noticed that during the first installation of the program I obtained a fairly decent transfer rate around 1300 KB/s, which isn’t the case for everyone. But over time, and for all clients (Vuze, eMule, etc.), the transfer rate decreased and tended to stagnate around 600 KB/s and rarely rose higher despite a large number of sources. So the conclusion: fragments of files must come together bit by bit and, over time, limit the number of connections of network cards or something like that, while several disk cleanups are regularly done with programs like CCleaner. If anyone has another view or wants to share their opinion, that would be cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and for info, if you pass by pa vuze but you are tracked by a private server, you will have a transfer rate of around 600kb/s, at least in my case... but if you use vuze without a private server, just with the search engine, you will get on average the same rates as with e-mule, as far as I’m concerned my mule already smashed 2015kb/s my record lol and in the province please...

ps/ of course I’m talking about case where your ports are open.... and that we think a little before downloading a file (source) but it seems so obvious...

nicolas 91340 sorry but you have a problem, you’re running with two antivirus programs???? it’s not possible or then your PC spends its time in conflict, check better. and check if your ports are open and put yourself a bit of seed/seeder and redo the test it will be better lol!!!

Hi, try not to limit the sending rate.

Hello, have you noticed that in Options/plugins, (In Vuze) (in uTorrent as well) there is something new:::: uTP! protocol to optimize, regulate bandwidth? It would be "FAI friendly" as it reduces your throughput when the ISP is congested, and rewards when it is free. There would be incompatibility of connections between clients that use or do not use this protocol.... as for uploads, I top out at 90/120 max Ko/s I don't know how some people manage to send at more than 400Ko!!!

News about Vuze;;Option/pluging:::uTP (connection problem with those who do not use it)
µTP is a new lightweight BitTorrent protocol used by µTorrent since version 2.0; it optimizes the use of network bandwidth while limiting the number of network issues.

µTP optimizes network throughput by reducing latency and network overhead; it is designed to slow down in case of network congestion (when sending and receiving data only worsen the situation!). Result: faster download speeds and reduced impact on users and Internet service providers.
µTP is user-friendly in a home network; a computer equipped with µTorrent will not mobilize all network resources for its needs
µTP is an open protocol undergoing standardization: to learn more about µTP standardization, see bittorrent.org and Internet Engineering Task

I mean, I’m downloading a file, but for example in the client it says 9 while in sources it shows '0 of 0' and it isn’t progressing at all. What should I do?

What is your ISP? Some ISPs are starting to block downloads; I’m in England and my ISP is throttling traffic when it comes to torrents. I’m sending you a site to run a test to see if your ISP throttles traffic:
    http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php

To run the test, obviously close any programs that might use your connection

    Tell me your ISP

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply,
I did the test, but apparently nothing special:

    * The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP upload achieved minimal 499 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved maximal 499 Kbps. You can find details here.

    * The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved minimal 4537 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved maximal 4647 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10009) throttled?

    * The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP download achieved minimal 494 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved maximal 499 Kbps. You can find details here.

    * The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved minimal 4644 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved maximal 4613 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 4537 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 4644 Kbps. You can find details here.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all uploads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP upload on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 499 Kbps while a TCP upload on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 494 Kbps. You can find details here. "

On the other hand, what kind of information do you want from my ISP?

    Thanks in advance!

the problem apparently doesn’t come from your ISP, I’ll simply think it’s a slowdown, the bandwidth can sometimes reduce sporadically sometimes because the ISP isn’t doing its job… I would advise you to test downloading with another PC, to see if it’s the connection or your PC.

for your ISP just give its name, I read some info on potential blocks of Club-Internet.

if the problem comes from your connection and not the PC’s config, there is a way to test in more detail if your connection is throttled with a Linux live CD, I’m looking for the link and I’ll keep you updated.

do a test on speedtest.net to see your ping and your upload and download speeds as well.

      Hi there,
I received today my new EMTA modem from Numericable
with a fairly strong connection (100mb)! but VUZE doesn’t react
      ( i.e. no sources/clients ).
I opened the inbound TCP port 6881 I went crazy, I did everything
without any result. I don’t understand where the bug is. If you could give me
all the tips that you used to achieve a delicious connection...
      Thanks in advance
      PEACE

Okay, I also used Utorrent, but it doesn't exist on Mac.

Limit the number of sources I connect to, or the number of sources that connect to me?

    1. aide_inconnue Posted messages 684 Status Member 109

For your information, I noticed that with my connection, the optimal number of sources I can connect to per file is 250. I download better than with 300 previously; this depends on my connection and the number of simultaneous downloads.

I’m not sure this will resolve your problem, but you should try everything, especially when you don’t know at all where the problem comes from....
