Epson Stylus SX420W Wi-Fi Configuration Solved/Closed

Question

Hello :)

I’m trying to set up the Wi-Fi connection between my computer and an Epson Stylus SX420W printer via its control panel, but I haven’t had any success for a few days... No USB cable was provided with my printer purchase, so I don’t have any other option.

The installation steps are poorly explained...
So I don’t understand how to find my SSID.
Please note that I’m connecting to the internet from home on a public network.

To work around the issue, I tried to create an ad hoc wireless network... but the printer keeps signaling a configuration failure: "checking detailed IP configuration: unknown"

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it :)

Alright, thank you.
The printer's control panel is asking me to select an SSID. It recognizes the neighbor's one, which is Wanadoo, but not SFR wi-fi public.
So I'm stuck, I can't continue the setup.

(and the wi-fi setup guide doesn't provide me with any solution...)

Are you connecting from a public network? What does that mean?
Because normally you type "192.168.1.1" in Internet Explorer
you land on your router's config panel, you activate the Wi-Fi if it's not already done, and then you can detect your printer...

I am connecting to SFR public Wi-Fi using a username and password given to me by a friend. I don't have a box at home.

The SSID (Service Set Identifier) is a name that identifies a wireless network connection. Since your printer is a wireless printer, it makes sense that it does not come with cables as it connects via Wi-Fi.
Everything should be explained in the documentation. Normally, all of this is done automatically...

Since you connect via Wi-Fi, it simply corresponds to the name of the connection. For example: SFR Public.

This is probably due to the fact that the network is public. If you connect this printer to this network, everyone connected to it will see it and be able to print through the network.
Finally, it's possible that I'm mistaken.

That must be it indeed... Could creating an ad-hoc network be a solution to connect my computer and my printer via Wi-Fi?

Yeah, maybe a MANet network could do the trick. To be tested.

I found the solution! By creating an ad-hoc network with a WEP key. The printer recognized this SSID and I was able to continue the Wi-Fi configuration. Thanks for trying to help me :)

Hello,  I just read your post and I have the same problem. Did you create the WEP key yourself (I mean did you come up with it?)? Wouldn't it be better to create a WPA2 key?  Thanks.
