Hello,
first of all, thank you for taking an interest in my question.
I can no longer turn on or recharge my camera - Nikon Coolpix S3000 bought in April 2010 (via the plug or via USB).
The computer detected the camera yesterday, but unfortunately, it indicated that the device was detected, and a second later, the computer no longer detected anything. Today, none of my computers detect the camera, and the camera's charge indicator does not light up at all. The same goes for the charger on the power outlet; nothing seems to work... It's as if the device is dead.
Nevertheless, I'm not ready to give up just yet (!), so I tried changing the USB cable to check if that was the issue, but it’s the same story with the other cable.
Have you ever had a similar problem with this brand of camera?
Could it be just a simple battery replacement issue? (even though it was bought 9 months ago...)
or is it another problem? But which one!?? ;)
Thank you!
Configuration: Windows XP / Safari 534.10

I had the same problem with this camera!
After searching online, I saw that a lot of people had this issue: no lights come on even when it's plugged in to charge...
Some people were able to charge their camera simply by removing the SD card and plugging it in to the wall.
I tried it and it works for me!
It's not very logical, but it has the merit of working!!!

It worked for me, once the SD card was removed, the charging started working again!!!

I just tried all your tips and nothing is happening. I plugged it in on the computer but nothing lights up. Do you have another solution?

Thank you for all these answers. They helped me revive mine :)
This is where the story gets complicated. :)
I bought it at a Best Buy in the United States and I'm going back there a week after the warranty expires (of course......)
So there you go... But if it's just a battery problem, I can just buy a new one, but I don't want to buy one for nothing, hence the importance of finding the source of the problem....
Ugh!

Don't forget to test an external charger! Go to a store that offers this and ask to test it before buying!!! I tested it and it worked so I bought it for 30 euros... It's still cheaper than a new camera!
Hello,
Just so you know, I'm on my second battery in two years and it has failed on me again. There must be a problem with this Coolpix device!!!

Yes, it’s not the BATTERY that is faulty, but the internal charging system of the camera. Do as I did, buy an external charger (which can be found in multimedia stores)… You charge your battery externally and there’s no problem at all!
Having a Nikon Coolpix S8000, I can say that I have never had such a problem (no, I lost the charging cable! XD Anyway!)
I imagine it’s still under warranty...? So I suggest you quickly send it for repair before the warranty expires and you find yourself with a possibly defective camera in your hands, unable to get it repaired without cost... :-s

WARNING: actually, it was NOT the battery, nor the USB cable!!! It was an internal problem with the camera at the spot where I plug in my cable to charge. The solution: I charge my battery on an EXTERNAL battery charger or I charge my battery in a camera of the same brand!!!
------>THANK YOU TO THE MODERATORS FOR CLOSING THE TOPIC IF POSSIBLE!!! I HAVE PROVIDED THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION, THANK YOU

First of all, we should avoid letting the battery drain completely by itself.
A battery that discharges below a certain threshold can no longer be recharged (it's dead).
I agree with you that the battery is very poorly managed by this device.
I also had this problem, but I thought it was because I bought it secondhand.
An external charger would likely allow for better control of the charge and preserve the lifespan (not the autonomy) of the battery.

Hi!
I have the same one as you, a Nikon Coolpix S3000.
It won't turn on either, and when I charge it, it works but only for two minutes, and then it stops charging because it's fully charged.
And the computer doesn't recognize it anymore.
This happened to me once before; I removed the SD card and it turned back on, and then it worked again.
But now it doesn't work at all.
Please help me.
Thank you.

Hello, after 2 or 3 years, if not more, I've decided to really understand this device!
- A few years ago, I had to take it to the Fnac for repairs, after that everything was fine, then I had trouble taking photos because the zoom stopped working!
And now, well, it won't turn on anymore; I plugged it in via USB and my PC apparently detects it, so it's charging, so we'll see what happens!
- My question is: can the battery be charged with the external charger (Lumix)???

Hello everyone, the battery discharge is the bane of Coolpix cameras, don't hesitate to remove the SD card and connect the device to your computer or to mains power, the charging will take place.
Hello, does the solution with the external charger work for the Nikon Coolpix S4200?
Thanks in advance ;-)
Thanks in advance ;-)
Hello,
same problem ..... it turned off and won't charge anymore ..... disappointed because it was a gift ....

My device won't turn on since I set it down while it was open; it turned off and won't turn back on and has stayed open. Do you think they will replace it or repair it?
Hello, mine says (the battery is discharged) even though it charged all night!! If someone can help me, is it the battery?? Thank you.

Hello,
Nikon is one of the top 3 camera manufacturers in the world, not recommending this brand makes no sense, be careful with what you write. Having a problem with your Porsche doesn't mean that Porsche is worthless...
For my part, I ended up blowing some air into the battery compartment of the Coolpix S3500 and the camera turned back on.
I also have a Coolpix, however last night I was desperately trying to charge the device, so I had the idea of rubbing the battery in my hands, and I put it back to charge, guess what, the battery works ^^
