"Scan only" what is it?

Hello everyone,
I have a Samsung LE37A568 TV connected via an HDMI cable to the Dual S terminal. I subscribed to HD.
I just noticed in the TV settings that I could adjust "the size and format of the image."
I can choose between:
- 16/9
- Zoom
- Wide Zoom
- Just Scan.
I became interested in "Just Scan," when I activate it, it says:
"Displays the full native HD signal that cannot be viewed using a standard television."
Once this mode is activated, the image seemed a bit sharper, and some "parts of the image appear," let me explain: on a still frame in a movie scene, on the left wall, there was a painting, I switched simultaneously from "16/9" to "Just Scan" to see the difference, the painting on the wall was only visible halfway in "16/9" and we could see the other part of the painting (almost the entire painting) in "Just Scan" mode.
On the other hand, the image does not quite reach the edges of the TV on an HD channel, and on an SD channel, there is a gap of at least 2 cm (while in "16/9," the image did reach the edges of the TV).
So I wonder: should I activate this mode? What is its purpose? What does the phrase "Displays the full native HD signal that cannot be viewed using a standard television" mean? What does it change?
