Hello,

My question is simple;

In my BIOS, I have an option called **UMA Frame Buffer Size**

I have the choice to set this option to 128mb/256mb/512mb/1gb.

Currently, it is set to 512mb. It says next to it: 1gb options only appears when you

install 2gb system memory or more. (note that I have 4gb of RAM in my computer)

So will setting it to 1gb instead of 512mb make me lag less in my *demanding* games? Or should I leave it as it is?

Also, I have the option **Frame Buffer Location** with 2 choices; Below 4g and Above 4g. (for

now it is set to Below 4g)

Should I change anything or should I keep it as is since I have 4gb of RAM in the computer?

(Note that I am using XP 32bits, so the computer only recognizes 3.25gb of RAM even though I have 4gb)

I hope someone can give me a response... Have a good day everyone and thank you in

advance!

Hello,
on a a laptop, the "UMA Frame Buffer" allows you to determine the memory allocated to the graphics processor (GPU), which of course is taken from the PC's RAM
UMA = Unified Memory Architecture
if you have Windows XP in 32-bit and 4 GB of RAM installed, you can indeed set the Frame Buffer to 1 GB, leaving 3 GB for XP
We would like to know your laptop, or at least the graphics card ;)

It's not a laptop (I forgot to mention, sorry)

Tower with AMD Phenom II X4 945 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, 4GB of memory, Asus M4A78L-M motherboard.

So thank you, I'm going to set that to 1GB and try it out to see if it's better. Have a good day.

if it's a tower, modifying the UMA Frame Buffer won't change much, as the onboard graphics memory on the GTS 450 is far faster than what will be accessible using this method: it's purely commercial :)
you can read the section "shared memory" in this article:
https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-37641588-comment-choisir-une-carte-graphique-pour-son-pc#choix-d-equipements-pour-pc-portables
unless your GTS 450 has no dedicated memory, in which case you've been conned...
