What is the purpose of Akamai NetSession Client? Solved/Closed

Hello or good evening everyone!  I just want to know what Akamai NetSession is for, please! It's urgent!     Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.5.7

Krisprols, I advise you to delete the Akamai NetSession application as soon as possible!

By removing Akamai from my applications, I have regained normal internet access speed!

Indeed, after installing a trial version of the Adobe Creative Suite (CS), I noticed an unbearable slowdown in my internet access.

It took me over a week to identify the cause.

The Adobe Creative Suite download process involves the installation of an "Akamai" client in the applications.

While monitoring the network activity on my Mac, I realized that 90% of the bandwidth was being used by an unidentified background task.

By noting the IP address that was being queried by this activity, I discovered that the owner of the IP was none other than Akamai!

Is Akamai using my internet access to provide bandwidth to nearby routers? If that’s the case, it’s truly astounding!

One clue that would confirm this theory: here is an excerpt from the text on the download page for the trial versions of Adobe:

Hard to believe... and yet the same result after repeating the operation to be sure! Thank you Adobe, thank you Akamai!

I also notice a drop in speed and I just realized that this software is also installed on my PC. I have Adobe applications. I will uninstall it with You uninstaller (thorough uninstallation) and I will check with Glary Utilities if I still have any traces left.

Please pay close attention, Akamai is installed with certain MMO games distributed by Alaplaya
including:
- LOCO online
- S4 League

and I don't know about the other Alaplaya MMOs, but there is a chance they use the same method

make sure to eradicate it after installing your program!

Good evening.

I had installed an Adobe software. I noticed a drop in internet connection, but I attributed it to the age of my PC. But later, I noticed Akamai. I uninstalled it, it came back. But I deleted it and BAM! Incredible connection... Advice: Uninstall Akamai! It didn't improve my download speed at all.

It is absolutely necessary for the new Aeria Games interface; if it is not activated, Aeria Ignite reloads and reinstalls it instead of simply activating it. Therefore, you cannot uninstall it or uncheck it in msconfig.

There are 2 solutions that seem to work on Windows 7.

1) Ignite is only used to get free gifts and download other games, so you can create direct shortcuts to your game programs and uninstall Ignite and Akamai, or simply prevent them from running at startup with msconfig. You just need to find the correct program; for Shaiya-FR, it's game.exe, and for ScarletBlade, it's SBlauncher.exe, but I don't know about the others.

2) The solution I adopted:
- Show hidden files in the folder options under the "View" tab.
- Go to the directory: c:\user\"username"\AppData\Local\Akamai; instead of user, it could be utilisateur.
- Create a shortcut on your desktop for the ControlPannel.exe program for easier access to Akamai's settings.
- In ControlPannel, under the "Preferences" tab, disable the uploads (this is also where you can start and stop the service; remember to reactivate it when downloading with Ignite, at least I think so, I haven't tried yet).
- In msconfig under the "Startup" tab, uncheck Aeria Ignite.

I'm writing all this because it may inspire other solutions for similar software.

Akamai is a service provider for websites/games/apps/videos... that subscribe to their service, with some or all files hosted by Akamai, guaranteeing access and optimized bandwidth depending on the type (game, website, application, video, etc.)
A large part of these services is transparent, and you are already using them without knowing it (notably while browsing the web)

If you do not want Akamai software, you can uninstall it (and read the EULA and other windows that warn of the installation) or keep it, but do not claim that it is fraudulent, dangerous,... if it is not...
If you catch malware, that's another matter; check your source sites and installs before starting them...
Of course, antivirus + firewall and antimalware should be active and up to date.

Hello  Asutek uses Akamai for example, so there’s really no reason to panic.  If you have CCleaner, you can simply disable it from startup on your PC.

I uninstalled it with anti-malware and since then it can't be installed anymore. Okay, I can't install Aeria's MMOs either, but oh well, better not to have this crap (even if some think it's a good thing) than to play. After all, there are other MMOs/MMORPGs much better than Aeria's! And also a very effective way to not install anything without our consent (which often happens especially with Adobe, even if some here say otherwise, but if they like having malware on their PCs thinking it's not because it's the game or Adobe that installs it, then that's their problem since it's their PC hahaha). You just need to tell your antivirus which software you don't want, and when Aeria or Adobe wants to install it, it's automatically blocked! Oh yes, we don't live in a world of teddy bears for those who think that the software mentioned in this topic is harmless for your PCs lol.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions! I often play online, but in games where low bandwidth isn't necessarily noticeable. However, I recently started playing Street Fighter 5, and there, the lags are immediately apparent; the game is unplayable. I realized that something was wrong, and while scanning my network, I found out that Akamai was siphoning off my bandwidth.
