Installing CI module on Samsung TV UE40JU6400.

Question

Hello, Until now, I was receiving channels through a Metronic Terbox Fransat decoder (SD, I think) on a cathodic TV. Apparently, I cannot use it for the Samsung UE40JU6400 TV, which can only be connected with an HDMI cable and not through the SCART of my decoder. According to my research, a CI module would be interesting to take over. Indeed, there is a reserved slot for the module behind the TV with an adapter provided, but the tuner (DVB-T2) is not designed to receive satellite channels... right(!?) So, I'm not sure if I can use one. Are there "sat" modules and other types of modules? Do I have to switch to a rooftop antenna? Or to an HD decoder box? And if that's the case, why is there this module port on my television? Does the CI module allow me to eliminate the satellite dish? So many questions! I didn't think I would need to take classes to change my TV... Thank you in advance.

Hello,  Normally, your seller or the user manual should be able to explain the main points.  The reference for your TV is incomplete to be precise; there are other letters at the end. Here is the Samsung website and the manual to download for one of them https://www.samsung.com/fr/support/model/UE40JU6400KXZF/  That said, your TV does receive TNT T2 via terrestrial beam (aerial antenna), but not satellite; you should have chosen another model. The CI slot of the TV is made for inserting a manufacturer's card designed to decrypt broadcasts like Canal+ and others, which are not in Clear. Hello, Your TV does indeed have a PCMCIA module to decode encrypted terrestrial TNT channels such as Canal +, Paris Première, etc. However, it is not equipped with a satellite tuner, so: If you receive HD TV well with an antenna, no problem, you will receive the HD channels; otherwise, you will need to buy a Fransat HD decoder with a "lifetime" card included, here for example: http://www.tvcorner.com/fr/bouquets-chaines/tv-francaise/Fransat/index.php Then, to your question: "Are there "sat" modules and other kinds of modules?" Thank you for these answers.  If I understand correctly, the port on my television was not meant to receive a module for satellite channels but rather for paid channel offerings...?  And if I wish to continue receiving satellite channels, I need to get a new HD-compatible decoder...?  My options come down to choosing either an outdoor antenna or a new decoder suitable for my television... (I exclude adapters, which generally result in a loss of quality).

That's right, paid channels from terrestrial TNT since this TV doesn't have a satellite tuner. "And if I want to continue receiving satellite channels, I need to get a new HD-compatible decoder...?" Yes, anyway there are only HD ones for sale since SD will disappear in April 2016. Rooftop antenna is fine if there's TNT reception in the area (check with the neighbors) and no need for anything else since this TV is equipped with a digital tuner. For your information: decoder = terminal = external tuner = adaptor, they're all the same thing; we say decoder for coded channels. As for the term "adaptor," it was chosen by Baudis who was at the CSA at the beginning of TNT's launch to avoid scaring people and to keep it simple. Last question that I find puzzling: If terrestrial reception is possible, why opt for satellite?  -- I call a spade a spade *      *in French in the text

Re,  The CI slot is for decrypting paid channels, whether satellite or terrestrial... but it is not a set-top box... you need an additional and different antenna socket and a satellite tuner in the TV.  I couldn't find the specifications for your satellite decoder, I think it's not in "Full HD" because it's not possible with a SCART connector, it should be an HDMI output... This question should be directed to Fransat. If necessary, you will need to change your decoder.  If the reception is good in your area, I encourage you to choose the antenna solution, as your TV is capable of reproducing the good images that will come. Additionally, you'll be able to do everything with just one remote control.  There you go, you remain the master of your decisions..

This TV arrived from Santa Claus. Who hadn’t inquired about the nuances of contemporary technology... I would like to make a suggestion:  By going back to the seller of this TV and kindly suggesting to exchange it for another one (with a satellite tuner)... He might be open to it...??  You never know.. Personally, I tried it for a freezer and it worked..
