Hello
for her birthday my daughter wants a computer, she will be 7 years old and is in first grade
we were thinking of buying the Lexibook at JouéClub
but I'm afraid it might be too complicated for her
she wants it more to learn and do French and math exercises than for games
there are 200 worksheets from the National Education in it, but starting from what age?
those who have it, what do you think?
thank you for responding to me

Hello, we are unable to connect to the internet. The key seems to be working; when I click on the network, it indicates that I am connected to freewifi without any issues. However, when I try to open the internet, it is impossible, and I get an error message: "the web proxy could not find the specified web site. Make sure that the specified URL is valid and that you are connected to the Internet," and this applies to all websites. What should I do? Thank you very much for your response. Parental control is disabled.
Sincere regards
Sandrine

Hello, it's great. Even though I know I'm not your daughter, I've had it for 9 years. It's very good, like a mini practical light PC, very simple. There are 200 educational games, 100 animated cartoons, math exercises, French, English to manage pocket money, English, Italian, all languages. It has internet access, or of course, we can activate parental control. The only small downside, and it's the only one, is that it takes a long time. Here is a site to buy it:

The Lexibook is just a scam....
* The processor inside is an ARM926E, so it's not a standard PC thing, but dedicated to embedded devices that don't need to do much.
You can see the photo of the inside of a Lexibook Advanced Master here: http://i53.tinypic.com/29c45ev.jpg purchased at the end of 2010.
* The OS, the software
On the label on the back, it says "Windows CE 6.0" and when it turns on, it's clearly the 5.0 version that's installed.
Given that it's Windows CE for ARM, don't hope to install anything on the netbook! No program made for another Windows (XP, etc...) is designed to run on ARM, so it won't work.
It should also be noted that the Windows Media Player installed on it cannot play videos (or the uncompressed AVI format that has 10 seconds of video for 100 MB) in short, nothing usable.
Messenger is also installed! What a great deal! The installed version is 4.2 which worked until mid-January 2011. Messenger 4.2 for WinCE uses an old MSN protocol that Microsoft no longer uses today!!!!! In short, MSN is completely useless on this device!
Of course, there is an "update" button in a Messenger client menu. But it links to the Live Messenger site which offers the 2011 version for PC (in short, Intel). I have yet to find the version for ARM. Actually, it’s abandoned by Microsoft!
And it is also impossible to install any equivalent program, unless you have a development platform for embedded hardware for ARM9.
* The security of the netbook
On the hardware side, it is indeed relatively well thought out: robust keyboard, lightweight case, SSD hard drive (in fact a special memory with no moving parts), all that is shock-resistant to what our little darlings can inflict on them.
On the software side... it gets worse....
I found several messages on forums saying: "my kid deleted the Windows folder, the Lexibook doesn't work anymore!"
And for good reason! Windows CE is meant for embedded systems! So, leaving access to the disk means that the user KNOWS what they're doing!!!!!
There is no security in Windows CE to prevent the user (admin only) from deleting an important directory or a necessary file!!!
And since it's Windows CE with ARM... good luck restoring the file if the netbook won't boot anymore.... it’s ARM, there’s no BIOS like in a PC.
* Memory.... a vast topic. In fact, it can be adjusted in Windows CE:
- "more disk AND less memory"
- "less disk AND more memory"
It’s complementary, there’s just a slider to adjust towards more disk or memory.
* The WiFi stick sold for 30 euros....
That too is a great joke...
The USB stick does indeed work, with a range of a few meters. That’s okay, but if there’s a 15 cm concrete wall between the base and the stick, it becomes difficult.... almost unusable.
On the durability side, it’s really poorly designed!!!!! The USB ports are on the back of the netbook. Naturally, the stick sticks out, and naturally, kids are less careful than adults, so the stick got bent after a month of use. Of course, when placing the Lexibook on the table, not always horizontally, the stick takes the hit.... until it breaks.
Why aren’t the USB ports placed on the side???? Mystery... especially since there’s plenty of space inside!!!!
As a result, I took the stick out of its packaging and soldered it directly onto the pins of the USB port. So now, the WiFi is integrated :)
The WiFi stick "MFA30" is actually http://i54.tinypic.com/2wfsabl.jpg

CPU = ARM926EJ: Samsung S3C2416XH-40

For 50 euros more, invest in a real netbook, you will be much happier, and your kids too! -

I had some Lexibook products. My opinion:
0!!!!!! It's useless, it doesn't even last a year!!!!!!! It's a scam!!! I advise you not to buy anything from the Lexibook brand!!!!!!!!! For the computer, you have to buy a specific cable to connect to the internet and it works for two days, then it stops working!!!! It's really a scam!!!!!!!!!! -
