ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card

Hello,
I purchased the game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and had to change my graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 7050/Nforce 610i) due to lag in the game.

I therefore bought an ATI Radeon HD 5770 on the advice of the seller.
Before installing it, I first uninstalled the drivers for the old one.

Once installed in the PC, I started it and then installed the drivers on the CD provided with the ATI. I first noticed that the fan on this new graphics card runs continuously, creating quite a noise for a normally silent PC. First question, is this normal??

Once the drivers were installed and the PC restarted, I went to the Device Manager and under Graphics card, it now says Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I then wanted to test COD MW2, and upon launching the game, I received the message "unrecoverable Direct X error. Please consult the readme file to see possible errors." Moreover, I noticed that the colors in Windows Vista have slightly faded (similar to after uninstalling the drivers for the old graphics card).

Could someone identify my problem and help me find a solution?

    So it's simple, I figured out why the computer didn't detect it, and you'll see it's really dumb. You just need to buy a 6-pin cable that plugs into the card at the back and into the power supply. This cable costs about €4 online, but there are more expensive shipping fees XD

    If it runs at full throttle while you're doing nothing (no games), then that's not normal.
    Yes, it's true that you normally need to disable your old integrated card in the BIOS.
    Have you properly uninstalled your chipset drivers in Device Manager? Since you switched from NVIDIA to ATI, that could cause problems.
    And did you correctly connect the graphics card to your power supply? I think you did; otherwise, you wouldn't have any display, but you never know.
    What I'm about to say might sound silly, but it's possible that your monitor is connected to your HD 5770 and not to the motherboard where you probably connected it before.

    So for the Nvidia drivers, I uninstalled them via the manager, but upon restarting, it reinstalls them without me asking for anything, and I'm connected to the motherboard because there's no image appearing on the screen from the graphics card.

    Actually, for the power supply, I can see the socket to plug it into on the board, but I don't see any cable coming from the PC that could connect to it.
    But if the fan is running, doesn't that mean it's receiving power?

    Oh yes, it's a Packard Bell, so you can be almost sure that's why. The power supplies of Packard Bell are weak and of poor quality; they provide the bare minimum for the computer to function.
    But as soon as you change a component, it won't work anymore. If you want it to function, replace the power supply with a 500W Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, Bequiet!, and there are others.

    Yes, there are plenty, but the main ones are Corsair, Seasonic, and Antec... go for a modular one, and certified 80+

    but above all, avoid Advance and Heden... cheap but crappy brands

    Not everything goes through the PCI; a large part comes through the 6-pin power supply branch. But it's true that with your current power supply, if it's the original one provided by Packard Bell, there isn't any.
    So there's only one thing to do for it to work and for the safety of your PC: buy a good brand power supply, and you should normally find a 6 or 6+2 pin connector on it.

    As R@ZER-PRO said, don't go for Advance, Heden, LC Power, or other no-name brands. The most recommended in terms of value for money is generally Corsair, but there are others that are good too, like Be Quiet!, Antec, Seasonic, Fortron, OCZ, etc.

    For me, it's the power supply; I keep saying it, but a no-name power supply is far from providing the indicated power. I know that €60 is frustrating, but still.

    If you know someone in your circle who has a branded, sufficiently powerful power supply, you can ask them to test it on yours to be sure because it's true that if you spend €60 and it doesn't work, that's a bummer.

    Sorry, I don't have any other ideas.

    For it to run at full speed, it might be because the computer doesn't recognize it.

    Try to install the latest drivers from the AMD ATI website, not the ones from the provided CD.

    Well, I installed the latest drivers and restarted the PC. The only problem is that it also reinstalled the drivers for the old graphics card (integrated into the motherboard). The new one is not detected on the PC or something like that. I read on another site that you needed to change the BIOS to use the VGA from the graphics card, but I'm not a computer expert, so I need help ^^
    And is it normal for the fan on the card to always run at full speed like that?

    Not necessarily a no-name power supply necessarily has 6-pin PCI Express cables, I believe the HD 5750 needs to be connected to the power supply

    What is the brand and power of your power supply?

    Yeah, but despite the power connector behind my graphics card, all the energy it needs would still go through the PCI, right??? Or do I primarily need to find a 6-pin adapter for the card?

    Ok, but the issue with the graphics card fan running at full speed all the time, even when I'm not doing anything, worries me a bit because having the fan running at full speed uses a lot of energy, right?

    But it seems to me that the power is 230V * 2A = 460 W, or the card needs a minimum of 450 W through the PCI or an additional 75 W through the Molex, so wouldn't it be better to buy a Molex adapter??

I defend the idea of the power supply because for a simple game at €60, I have already had to pay out of my pocket €170 when I was only expecting €70 x) so paying for a power supply at €60 on top of that hurts, especially when you are a student x)

    Sure, change this crappy PSU for a modular one certified 80+, Antec or Corsair

    and otherwise just change your GPU fan, and add a second one

    Hello,

    I just had the same problem yesterday when setting up my PC. After installing the drivers from the HD 5770 CD, it doesn't show up in Device Manager and nothing appears when I connect the screen to the graphics card.

    I'm using Win 7, MSI H55 E33 motherboard, core i3 540, 4 GB of RAM, Mad-X 550 W case.

    The fan is running, the graphics card is securely connected to the motherboard, and I have uninstalled the Intel graphics chipset...

    If anyone can help me ...? Thanks.
