Grub blocked stage 1.5 - error 17

Hello,
I registered for my husband who is totally desperate...

He did a multi-partition installation on his EEEpc (Ubuntu partition and Windows XP partition) and everything was fine until the moment he restarted the computer.

He received the message "GRUB loading stage 1.5 - please wait - error 17".

His keyboard is unresponsive. He is completely stuck.

Do you have any other solution than sending his computer back to the manufacturer? My husband is really good with computers, but this is beyond him and I would like to do something for him.

Thank you for getting back to me as soon as possible, especially if there are solutions...
Configuration: EEEpc 1000 - Windows XP - Internet Explorer

Good evening Madam ;-)

Here is some reading to uninstall Grub and regain access to Windows:

Good luck ;-)

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response. But is this reinstallation possible since my husband's computer displays this message right from the start and doesn't have a responsive keyboard, and his CD/DVD drive doesn't start either?

Thank you for your help.

Correction, my husband just tried a maneuver:
1°) DVD reader/burner connected via USB - with the original DVD of the EEEpc
2°) CTRL+ALT+DELETE - as soon as the screen went black, he pressed F2 and held it down until gaining access to the BIOS and went to Boot device priority to redefine the boot priorities:
Boot Booster disabled
3rd boot disabled
2nd boot disabled
1st boot device: USB:+burner name then save and exit (F10)

The "recovery" procedure was successful.

- Remove the DVD then click OK
- the computer restarts: hold down F2 to access the "boot setup utility" menu
- tab "boot": boot booster disabled
- boot device priority:
1st boot: HDD
2nd boot removable device
3rd boot USB (DVD)
save & exit
OK
- the computer restarts from the hard drive and the recovery procedure continues.

Trapick: just a small clarification: we are talking here about the EEEpc 1000HE. For the other models, this may not work the same way...
For the next steps, the computer has restarted in factory configuration again (1st boot of XP, registration data, etc.)

Note that I couldn't recover anything from Ubuntu; the recovery has fully worked: which unfortunately means that the original default partitions created: C:Xp +or- 80 Go and D: +or- 60 Go are back...

For those who wanted to get rid of Ubuntu entirely (I'm not one of them), there’s a small maneuver to do: as soon as the EeePc starts up (light gray screen), hold down the F2 key and return to the BIOS on the Boot Device Priority tab and enable Boot Booster (set to Enable), then press F10 (save and exit)

For others, absolutely do not do this maneuver before reinstalling Ubuntu...

To do this, plug in the USB stick containing the boot files in "Live USB". Turn on the EeePc, as soon as it starts, press ESC until you see a window to choose the boot source. Highlight the USB stick (Ubuntu)... The Ubuntu loading screen appears... Once the live USB session opens, you will be able to install Ubuntu permanently on the 60 Go partition!!! Not the 80 Go one, otherwise you will lose Windows XP... If you no longer want XP, there is another procedure to follow, it can probably be found on the site...

Hoping that this information is useful to all EeePc 1000HE users...
