Good evening!
I have a PC that is 3 or 4 years old, which came out just before USB 2 became an essential standard even for entry-level machines. With only USB 1, I quickly encountered obvious data transfer speed issues, and I replaced the USB 1 card with a USB 2 card, which gave me 4 very effective USB 2 ports at the back of the PC. The problem is that a front panel offering two USB 1 ports on the front has remained powered by USB 1 since it is connected to the motherboard. I would therefore like to find the same kind of front panel but to connect it to my USB 2 card, which has a 5th "internal to the PC" port. I asked at Fnac and even at local assemblers, but they told me to look online. However, I can't find what I need on the internet. I need the same front panel as the one I have in USB 1 but with a thicker cable and a specific braiding for USB 2.
Could you indicate where I might find this kind of thing because even with Google I don't know what keywords to use...
To clarify my request a bit, I invite you to look at the photos of my current USB 1 front panel, which screws in just behind the front face of the PC. The two photos can be found as the 4th choice at the following address

I have 2 USB ports on the front that are not connected. My motherboard, which is a K7VZA, has USB2 connectors. The problem is that I don't know how to correctly connect the wires of these USB ports. The diagram in the motherboard manual is not clear at all. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance!
Hello,
I may be asking a silly question, but is this setup mandatory?
In fact, why not use a connector compatible with a front bay (the front dimensions of a CD drive)? There are ones that combine S/PDIF + USB, or Fire-Wire + USB.
If you really insist on this mounting method (your current setup), you need to contact the website of your case's manufacturer (they have the supplier of this card in their lists).
Last option: Take the schematic of this card and find a similar empty card in dimensions. Then mount a capacitor, some chips, and a circuit compatible with your USB2. http://www.electroniquepratique.com

Good evening Peps and thank you for your contribution!
No, your question is not at all silly; it’s me who forgot to mention (unless we look at my setup) that my two front bays are already occupied by a CD writer and a DVD writer. I know, I could get rid of the first one, but the DVD writer is still less efficient for burning or reading CDs, and also, if one fails me, I have the other... That’s why it would have helped me to use the small front slot where the usb1 was previously connected.
The ideas you’re giving me are still really helpful, particularly the one related to the case manufacturer. On the other hand, I think the idea regarding a front format CD/DVD connector that includes USB2 or even FireWire might also be good for the floppy disk reader format... indeed, I have a free space in that format... I’ll look into it further.
Thank you very much for considering my problem!

Hello,
A preliminary search yields this material; especially look at the USB 2.0 connectors mounted on the side of the case:
http://www.hard-h2o.com/readreview/hardware/usbcardreader.html
Or the one indicated under reference 53805 on this site:

Thank you very much, peps, you found exactly what I needed!
Apparently, I still have some progress to make in terms of online research because my searches for this kind of component had been completely fruitless! Probably a keyword issue since I hadn't tried English terms like "panel," etc.
Thanks again a thousand times for your methodical help and rare efficiency!

Hello,
DOUD72: I will only provide answers if you adhere to the guidelines; They state that it is preferable to make your own post (the chance of receiving correct solutions would be more interesting), and to give the maximum of relevant detail regarding the question. We are not clairvoyants; In your case: Brand and model of your tower, and of your motherboard (K7VZA = unknown model, unknown supplier).
There is no need to respond to this message, no further replies will be provided.

Hello Peps,
Thank you for taking the time to read my message. (Even though I find its tone a bit condescending, but maybe I'm mistaken)
I want to clarify that I am new to this forum, that I am not used to communicating via forums, and finally that I am not a whiz in computer science (but I enjoy this field and I am learning). Additionally, I hadn't taken the time to read the rules, which I acknowledge was a mistake. All of this probably explains my awkwardness.
Since the brand of the card is not listed in the user manual, I opened my tower: it is a K7VZA from ElitGroup. However, I do not know the brand and the model of my tower. Why is this important? Is the front panel connector different from one tower to another (for example, color of the wires)?
Moreover, I do not know what a Post is.
Thank you,
See you soon.

Hello,
Alright DOUD72.
A POST= a message in the general section (under the home table you will find a window equivalent to the one where you wrote your message). Advantage: A lot of people check this board, so you increase your chances of getting a correct answer.
I finally found your K7VZA, it’s a card equivalent to the K7VZM, released in 2000.
Socket A (462 pins); 3 modules supporting 1.5 Go of SDRAM memory PC100 or PC133 (maximum FSB 200); 1 AMR port (Audio Modem Riser); 4 USB 1.1 ports (2 at the back, 2 internal for front connectors); 2 PS/2 IEEE 16550 ports (mouse, keyboard). CPU Athlon 1070 MHz supported.
No USB 2.0
If your tower is a SONATA or equivalent and has USB 2.0 connectors on the front, you will need to replace these connectors with others that support 1.0 or 1.1.
Manufacturer's motherboard site: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloads/ProductsDetail_Download.aspx?categoryid=1&typeid=4&detailid=71&DetailName=Driver&DetailDesc=K7VZA(1.0)&MenuID=45&LanID=3
Click on manual, you will see the details of connecting the front USB links, the pins are near the power connector etc... and the BIOS.
However, the correspondence table is missing in the manual for the USB 3 & 4 pins (front), so it's impossible to specify which is VCC, which is USB3+, USB3-, USB4+, USB4-, etc... Well, we can assume that the classic scheme is respected: 2 rows of 4 pins, each of these rows concerns 1 USB port, now I don’t have the card in front of me to indicate pin 1 ground or VCC, thus knowing the position of each of the other pins.
NOTE: There are only two possibilities:
a) The ground, etc... are integrated into a chip on the motherboard: Each of the rows is made up of 4 pins dedicated to 1 USB port;
b) These pins are the ground, vcore+, vcore-, etc... Therefore, VCC, USB3+, USB3-, USB4+, USB4-, etc... are directly integrated into a card mounted in the front, and supports the distribution to each USB.

Hello Peps.
I apologize for the delay in my response; I haven't been able to dedicate time to my USB port issue since my last message (I was preparing for exams and studying).
I'm a bit in a bind for the following reason: I have already visited the Elitgroup website and downloaded the manual for my motherboard only to find that it was exactly the document I received when I purchased my computer; it is precisely, as I mentioned in my first message, its imprecision regarding the connection of the front USB ports that is causing me trouble (you noticed this imprecision just like I did, but I am unable to make use of the additional information you provided); and I have done many other searches, most of which were fruitless. It seems that I have wasted your time. I didn't detail my steps in my messages partly due to feeling like a novice and also because I thought my request would be accessible to a broader audience, and thus it was likely I would find someone with a similar board to mine who could precisely indicate the cable connection. So I will create a post as you advised.
Thank you for everything.

Hi,
I have exactly the same issue as you, namely, I have an ECS K7VZA motherboard and I want to connect the front USB ports of my case, but I don't have the color codes for the wires.
I would like to know if you solved your problem and if so, could you send me the pinout for the case so that my front USB ports finally work...
I look forward to your response, thank you in advance...

Hello Frank,
I had left this USB port issue unresolved due to lack of time.
So far, I haven't managed to get them to work. However, a front USB port connection for a K7VZA from ElitGroup is available on the American ElitGroup website "ecsusa.com": in the "support/service" menu, choose "pin layout," and on the displayed page, select the K7VZA motherboard from the first dropdown list. You will find a table and a picture of the ports on the board with a layout that should resemble yours.
You may have already read one of my earlier messages where I outline the configuration of the female pins connected to the front ports. I hope in your case the pins are all separate, or if they are in blocks, that they are arranged correctly, because otherwise you will need to swap the cable connections on the pins. If you encounter a similar issue, I think I can help you.
As for the colors of the cables, they don't seem to correspond to anything.
Just rely on the markings on the female pins and that's it.
I will immediately try again on my side, and let me know if you make any progress on yours.
See you soon

Hello Peps,
I followed the link you suggested: it’s exactly what I was looking for. I will try to connect my ports according to the provided diagram. What could be the consequences of a wrong connection?
Thank you.

Good evening,
I read your message with interest. Although I am not able to address your issue (which I hope is resolved by now...), perhaps you can help me with mine! Regarding a C.M. ECS P6IWP-Fe and its 8 "USB1" connectors, I am unable to verify the wiring connected to them, destined for the 2 front ports (which are not working properly!). If you could provide me some assistance?
Thank you.
