An i5 instead of a Core 2 Duo?

Hi, I have a PC with a graphics card and 4 GB of RAM that are sufficient for me
but with a Core 2 Duo 2.0, which has too limited power and is incompatible with the graphics card, and it also overheats too much
so I thought about upgrading to an i5 or something else... I don't know yet
will I have a problem with the motherboard? Or with the GPU? Or another part? Thanks.

    Hi

    No i5 is compatible with any motherboard supporting Core 2 Duo or Quad, it's not the same socket.

    So you'll need to change the motherboard.

      What is your motherboard? Because unless you change it to a second-hand Core 2 Quad, there's not much you can do. It's not a laptop, at least?

    Uhm, I need more details about your current configuration.

    - Your RAM -> DDR2 or DDR3?

    If you get an i5, you'll be on socket 1155. And motherboards with socket 1155 use DDR3.

      DDR2 is the type of RAM, we will need more precise information...

    1/ It's not a Core 2 Duo... It's a Pentium.

    2/ It's a laptop.

    So there you go
    4.4 GHz on Phenom II, 4.6 GHz on 2600K (1.36 V, not great... :) ), 4.8 GHz on FX-8150!

      Change your laptop ^^ Yours is not at all suited for gaming, it's a small office/multimedia laptop.
