Ps3 version 2.45 update

Solved

Hello,
I have an 80GB PS3 version 2.45. I connected to the internet and wanted to sign up for the PlayStation Network, but it tells me to update, and when I go to update, it's version 2.80. What is it for? I'm afraid to install it and have problems. If I install it, can I revert to the old version by formatting? Is version 2.80 backwards compatible with PS2 games? Thank you for your help and advice.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

If you want your PS3 to work well, update it. You won't lose any data
don't format your console, you will lose your data
it's not the update that will make your console backward compatible, you should have bought a 60 GB model.

Hi, so when you have new updates available, it's important to install them (well, it depends sometimes because it happens that they release an update 2 days later to fix the stability of the patch) and then it's up to you to decide if you want new features on your console like VIDZONE PSHOME etc.! You shouldn't be afraid to do them!!! No need to format!
Version 2.80 brings some overall improvements in game stability, faster trophy synchronization, and optimized loading times for the XMB!
And for now, only the 60 GB model is backwards compatible with PS2 games! Models 40, 80, and 160, you have to forget about them for now!

Ok, I thank you, but I think I'm going to leave it like this because I only use it to play PlayStation 3 games; however, it’s an 80 GB model, so the system shows 64 GB/74 GB. Is that normal? Thank you.

Hello,

it is impossible to perfectly reach 80Go/Gb, this has been a problem for a long time and hard drive manufacturers probably don't know how to fix it. So it is completely normal to have only 74Gb (in practice) on your 80Gb hard drive (in theory).
Moreover, as lelandaisa and morganoume mentioned earlier, only the 60Go is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games.

Best regards.

Let's say that different programs are already installed on this console (for the xmb....) and it's like all types of multimedia media! Whether it's a 1 GB, 2 GB USB stick or more, or like an iPod, you will always have less capacity!
See article: https://www.commentcamarche.net/informatique/technologies/24919-code-binaire-principe-codage-regles-symboles/ for a better understanding

Yes, but I don’t have 74 GB, I have 64. It’s written in the system 64GB/74GB
so only 64 usable out of 64
why not 74/74?? lol
