Hi,
I just installed a Wi-Fi card on my PC (running XP with the Freebox as a router) and the speed stays at 1 Mbps instead of 11 (I have a laptop with Wi-Fi and it's at 11 Mbps)
sniff sniff what should I do??
thanks and take care

Hello docbrown and all the internet users.
Indeed, this story is strange, especially since I have a phone with which I am at 11Mbit.
Thanks in advance for the proposed solutions.

For those experiencing disconnection issues, it's because Windows is looking for other access points and gets confused afterwards. To disable this function, you need to open Notepad, type
@echo off
net stop WZCSVC
@echo on
and save this file as fix.bat, then you need to run this file. If you want to reactivate the function, you need to type in Notepad
@echo off
net start WZCSVC
@echo on
and name it rescan.bat
I forgot to mention that you need to remove the .txt when you save the file.

Okay, thanks for your info. I forgot to say in my first message that my home PC is still working perfectly.
P.S. It's cool.

A nice site, I tested it and it works... I was at 1mb/s and now I'm at 5mb/s, the software unlocks the connection.

A SOLUTION?
Here is the solution I found that resolved all my problems here (described in the previous post).

The problem actually came from the ARP protocol for address recognition.
I simply had to reset the TCP/IP stack for everything to fall back into place.
The procedure is simple,
1 - remove the problematic connection
2 - command prompt ("cmd" under XP) type:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

And there you go.... it solved everything for me... I will of course try it on the Free configuration I mentioned in my first post.
The link to reset TCP/IP:
http://www.libellules.ch/reinit_tcp.php

Also, I almost forgot.... I had made a mistake.... I had changed the last number of the subnet mask and it was causing a conflict with
the IPs + ARP of the network.... moral of the story, leave the default values (255.255.255.0).

Hoping this helps some.

Hi
Here's the same problem:
I'm with Neuf,
I'm on WiFi,
I'M ON XP PRO,
And my connection varies from 54Mb/s to 1Mb/s

However, I was, until last week, on Windows 7 and I formatted for performance reasons.
And my connection was around 80Mb/s!! Still on WiFi.

I deduce that the problem comes from XP.
After that, I don't know which part of Windows XP limits WiFi connections...

I really hope someone has an answer.
Otherwise, I feel like I'm going to end up back on Seven soon.. =)

Radio is very simple...
WiFi is radio just like the TV reception at home on your television
1) the distance between the transmitter and the receiver matters
2) the antennas on both sides
3) direct visibility or not
4) frequency congestion

for "1" 10m maximum on average in direct visibility
for "2" the FreeBox uses a 1/4 lambda antenna with no gain
while some routers use 5/8 with 6dB gain
for "3" no need for explanation
for "4" choose another channel or check if it is occupied or not

Hello,

I had the following problem
Freebox + Ethernet = speed around 6 Mbits/s
Freebox + Wifi G = Speed 1.7 Mbits/s

I managed to retrieve my speed, i.e., 6 Mbits/s using the TZ Connection Booster software, however, the browsing is sometimes a little unstable. I don't know which parameters I modified that allowed me to recover my speed; it is certainly adjustments of packets for optimal communication between the Wi-Fi card.

Hello
I also have this problem, however my PC remains at 1 Mbps while my portable Mac connects well at 11 Mbps with its Apple card and stays at that speed. If I use my USB dongle, it's not an antenna or compatibility issue, nor is it a matter of unbundled speed (one shouldn't confuse internet speed and network speed). By using the ad hoc network, I can achieve 11 Mbps, but I lose my IP address since the Ralink driver does not integrate any IP management function, and I can no longer connect to the internet (or anywhere else). As for me, I'm convinced that this comes from Windows; we just need to find out where...

Visibly, it dates personally, it just happened to me like this, I was at 54Mbit normally and suddenly 1Mbit
I changed something in the network connection, then on your wireless network connection, I right-clicked PROPERTIES
Then in the general tab, I clicked on configure for my WiFi card (integrated into the laptop), then it opened a new window where I went to the advanced tab. There is a dropdown menu, I selected the menu "disable when establishing a wired connection" and I activated it.
And it worked.

Nice uncle! I didn't find that, but it allowed me to find or change channels, no more addressing conflicts that I presume were the source of the instability problems with the bandwidth when my roommate and I were on the same game.

thank you for your responsiveness
however, this does not explain why my connection speed on the PC remains at 1 Mbps while on my phone it is 11 Mbps, being in the same room and the Freebox in the other room (about 10 m away)
thank you

Like television, there is also the antenna... the vertical or horizontal polarization, the direction... also
the PC has an antenna as well; is it clear of the mass of the PC? Isn't the PC caught between the two?

hi ghost
i think it's due to windows limiting the connection to 1 Mbps by default.
to answer your question, i have an msi network card with an antenna
thank you

NO, Windows does not limit the speed of a network card, and a WiFi network card is the same thing.
The antenna is on an external PCI card behind the PC, and it is normally on a swivel, so it's up to you to align it with the polarization of the transmitter's WiFi so that they face each other in terms of polarization.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as Kais that I've been trying to solve for a very long time.......

Here's one of the latest discussions I had on a forum (the ADUF) with someone who was trying to help me (his name is baronlulu).

"Hi Baronlulu,

I did everything as you told me.

I reset the Wi-Fi and the router and then I did a hard reboot.

I tested my connection directly via Ethernet with freego and I had a speed of 10920 kb/s or 1365 ko/s and at the lowest (since I did it several times) 8192 kb/s or 1024 ko/s with a small message saying "exceptional speed with the free ADSLTV offer", by the way I don't have TV

Then I reconnected the router and the speed stayed the same, I thought cool it starts off great

Then I reconnected the Wi-Fi with the same PC and then I found myself with a speed of 384 Kb/s or 48 ko/s with the Windows icon indicating a speed of 1.0 mbits/s and an excellent signal, this is the subject of one of the hot topics in the Wi-Fi section that you will find here except that for most, it is only the speed between 2 PCs that is affected while for me it's really the speed for browsing that is messed up

So I hope you'll understand everything I've said and I hope to find a solution quickly

For info, I have two Gigabyte cards equipped with RALINK chips, I installed the latest drivers from December 2004, my Freebox is one with a single diode, a Gemtek if I remember correctly....... so what's wrong, well I don't know anymore

See you soon

Thierry"

So it’s not just Kais and I who have this problem and no one can find the solution, yet we’ve tried everything ;-)

For info, I’m currently surfing via Wi-Fi 1 meter from the Freebox and I’m not exceeding 1 mb/s (as indicated in the XP icon due to the wireless connection) or even less.... lol

So a speed worthy of 512 with ADSL 2+ and a Freebox V4 is really frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your help ;-)

Thierry

Hello everyone, I have a Hercules card on my phone and at first it worked quite well (24 Mbps), and one day, for no reason?? 1 Mbps and this without any possible connection, and the strangest thing is that Quik works perfectly.

Damn, our affair isn't progressing, my speed is still capped at 1 mb/s...

Hello,

exactly the same problem with Freebox in router mode and 2 MSI cards, 1 on PC in PCI and 1 on laptop in PCMCIA.
Both show 1 Mbit/s, yet in Ad-Hoc mode, connection at 54 Mbit/s.
If anyone has a solution, that would be cool.

WiFi is radio.. is the frequency free? If not, change the channel and especially test locally from PC to PC
Also, do not confuse 'bits' and 'bytes' because 10Mbits equals 1.375 Mo/sec in LAN (local) and on the internet 512 Kbits is = to 256 ko/sec
it's not with an internet network at 0.5Mbits that it will reach 55 Mbits

Hi,

As for me, I know very well what I'm talking about in terms of bits and bytes, no worries :-)

I managed to solve this problem, but apparently it doesn't work for everyone ...... I bought the WPCB-104GB model card on eBay and installed it in place of the WL-618HR that was delivered to me.

And now I've got a connection at 54 Mb/s even though the Freebox is limited to 11 Mb/s in terms of its WiFi :-)

Hi docbrown, one question? Did you sell your WL-618HR wifi card?
If not, I'll buy it from you.
Thanks, I’m waiting for your answer.

Good evening,

Don't buy this crap, it's worth nothing at all.
I got stuck with this junk from Free two weeks ago and I'm furious.
While colleagues received WPBC115G (the real 54M) around the same time, I'm stuck like others with 11M. They don't care at Free, as long as they get rid of their old cards. Already outdated technically, the only thing you can do with it is hang it above the TV in your living room.

See you later.

Hello Guillaumebegue,

I'm sorry, I hadn't seen your question :-)

Well, a month and a half later, it's not that bad, haha.

No, I haven't sold my WL-618HR card. How much would you like to buy it for? If you're still interested.....

I admit I hadn't even thought about selling it, although it could be useful in case of a breakdown.

Looking forward to your reply

Have a nice evening

Thierry

Good evening
I have exactly the same problem as you
my connection is limited to 1 Mbps while my Freebox is just 1 meter away from the antenna (to test and be sure that the problem does not come from potential interference)
I received (Monday, April 4) the superb PCMCIA card... Model: WL-618HR
and apparently, according to what I could read in the latest of your messages, this card would be limited or misconfigured
I don't intend to buy another one because I made the mistake of buying a previous card elsewhere and was unpleasantly surprised to find it was not compatible with the Freebox
I am quite annoyed because I normally have 6 megabits but I find myself with 1.5 megabits
I am posting this message as a bit of a rant
I think there won't be any solution; their model 618 card is probably a bad model that they sell off to customers who know nothing, they are just offloading their old stock without caring if it limits their customers' connection
they are really a bunch of...
knowing that we buy their junk for 27 euros
and then we have to buy antennas
they are really pushing it
for my part, I advise you to get the 9box as I am seriously considering leaving Free
for those hesitating because they download binaries in newsgroups ... don't worry, with a special subscription you can access it too ... 45 euros per year, which is about 3.5 euros per month on average
and at least with the 9, we can be sure to pay for what we get ... 15 euros for 8 megabits
that's my advice, leave this fraudulent provider
their 20 megabits is just smoke and mirrors
if by miracle someone managed to unlock this famous model 618
I would be really happy
for my part, I will continue to search...
good luck

I have exactly the same problem as you, but I think it comes from a hardware compatibility issue because with my laptop (an Acer 2026 WLmi with an Intel Wi-Fi system) the network is detected at 11 Mbits and with my desktop at 1 Mbit...

docbrown

It's exactly a hardware incompatibility that cannot be resolved, and my goodness, I changed the Wi-Fi card in my Freebox and there you go, I have a decent speed now :-)

I set up a PC for a friend with Wi-Fi, she bought a USRobotics PCI card and her network is well detected at 11 mbits, so for those who don't want any unpleasant surprises, get a USR.

I am joining those who have the connection issue detected at 1Mb.

However, this post is for a workaround only with a Belkin PCI 802.11 b/g on the PC side (on the Freebox side, I had the misfortune of receiving version 802.11b two weeks ago, but never mind... let’s move on)

So every time I start the PC, I also have this connection detected at 1Mb. The workaround consists of using the PCI card utility (and not the Windows configuration tool) and toggling between protocol b and b/g, then "Apply" after each change. The connection then resets to 11Mbits.

To be done at every PC restart or Wi-Fi reconnection...

Hoping for better...

Hello everyone

I'm also limited to 1MB
I found the explanation.
It's because I'm not in a non-urban area.
See Free's official statement at the following address

See you

I'm sorry, I'm on full unbundling with the 802.11g 54Mb wifi card provided by Free. On the PC side, I have a MSI PC54G2 PCI card with a detachable antenna.
At startup, the network is at full strength (1400 kb/s on mire.ipadsl.net), but after 30 minutes, my wireless connection status shows 1.0 Mbits/s (48 kb/s on mire.ipadsl.net)
Windows doesn't manage the connection, but the wifi card utility does; the network quality varies from very good (-60 dBm) to good (-61 dBm).

Previously, I had a Sagem livebox with a Sagem USB dongle on the PC, Windows showed a connection between 24 Mbits/s and 36 Mbits/s and my 1Mbits/s connection worked perfectly on my PC, now I'm downloading at over 1 Mo/s on my freebox via ethernet, and in wifi, it's not even reaching 50 kb/s..............

There's a big problem; it doesn't seem to come from the environment, it seems independent of the wifi adapter on the PC, and it happens with all the wifi cards provided by Free.....
I have serious doubts about this box's wifi capabilities, and I'm wondering if I will need to invest in a proper wifi router......

Let me know if you have any news to resolve this issue!!
