Samsung WE 1TB Multimedia Hard Drive Issues

Hello. Since I got the Samsung We Digital, it has already been brought back under warranty. It didn't show up on my PC before, then it worked again, and now it's acting up again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And now I'm waiting for my sister :) to open it. Do not buy this hard drive at all!!!!! What a waste.

all AVIs whether they come from p2p or elsewhere can be displayed on your TV as long as your DDM has the appropriate codec.
Indeed, the AVI format is a kind of container and several types of encoding can be used to compress the audio and video stream.
If you can play the video on your PC but not with your DDM, it means the right codec is on your PC but not in your DDM.
2 solutions:
- you update the firmware of your DDM if possible and if the manufacturer mentions the addition of the right codec (otherwise, better not to attempt it)
- you re-compress your movie using a codec compatible with your DDM (with FreeVideoConverter for example)

I recently bought the same hard drive and I had the same problem as you (that's actually how I got here). So I know my response is quite late, but it might help others in the same situation, so I'm posting it:
The issue is that this hard drive doesn't play videos with a resolution higher than 800*600, so you need to resize the videos using software like "Super" or "Virtualdub" to have a resolution lower than 800*600.
Of course, this can take a lot of time (to give you an idea, I had to resize about 20GB of video), but at least everything works perfectly afterwards!

I have had, and still have, the same problems with the WE Crystal 1T. After numerous attempts, (With or without audio track, container AVI, MKV, MP4, with or without subtitles, it bugs there too), I have come to the following conclusions:
- Most of the problems come from the audio track!
- It only really plays MP3 well in AVI files, (video without GCM and QPEL).
- AC3 is recognized but poorly decoded.
- AAC is not recognized at all.
- MKV one in ten works.
- MP4 bugs terribly.

Samsung solution: no solution (no new firmware).

Empirical solution: Encode or re-encode files with the AVI container by following certain precautions, (no GCM, no QPEL, MP3 track, (Lame preferred).

My solution: I refurbished an old computer (XP), removed all unnecessary programs, installed some CODECs and the VLC player, connected the computer to the PC socket of the TV, and ... the DDM as a simple mass storage device to the USB socket of the computer. Since then, 99.99% of the files are read.

PS: If Louccya31 reads everything on his PC, it’s simply because he installed the right codecs on his PC, QED.

it freezes when I pause during a movie and I have to unplug it and restart my movie from the beginning!!
and I also confirm that it doesn't play certain films!! :( (thanks for the answer regarding the reading format)
for me it's a piece of junk and I'm going to rush to take it back under warranty.

in DIVX format, there are hundreds of different encoding systems called "codecs"; on computers, you can download codec packs updates, etc.
There is even a miracle solution created by French engineering students, VLC, which works without codecs.
Unfortunately, multimedia hard drive manufacturers cannot use VLC, as it is reserved for computers by design. Multimedia hard drives can only read the most widely used codec, and many films available on illegal download sites do not play. There is no complaint service planned; one has to understand. This issue is not new; I have had a multimedia hard drive for five years, and it’s the same! MKV wasn’t read back then either. The customer service won’t be able to do anything.

I had the same problem, all the files were incompatible. I went to http://boutique.wedigital.fr/index.php?id=2793&option=com_firmware
then selected "Live we"
downloaded the latest update --> then put it in the root of an SD card or a USB stick
then on the home screen of the disk on the TV, choose PERIPH and select the source where the file is (SD or USB stick), then select photo, music, or video
..... the flash executes
and now everything is readable for me.

I've got the weekend, I've got the weekend in 1.5 TB. I've tried converting MKV files to AVI with video converter, I've tried in 1080, 720, nothing at all. I think I've been had like a lot of other people. In fact, there’s 1080 on the box, but it’s just all talk. There are three terrible codecs on the micro program that dates back to November 2010... useless.

Well, I don't get it anymore!!! Because my computer reads everything!!! and my DDM connected to my plasma doesn't read everything!!! The worst part is that it reads some files and not others. However, when I connect it to my computer (the DDM!), everything works. So for me, it's an issue with the DDM, but what to do to fix the problem??? That's where it gets stuck.

Hello, I just purchased the Samsung 1T we record, and I can't watch TV when I plug it in, so I can't record; In the settings, I have confirmed TV INPUT but nothing happens.
If anyone has a solution, thank you in advance.

It's even worse for me when I plug in a USB stick or an SD card; I can access the files on them, but I can't read those stored on the hard drive.
I do select the source hdd1 correctly, but when I try to enter the video, movie, or picture folders, it starts loading for half a second and then informs me that the files are not compatible.
After checking that the files are indeed in the formats indicated on the box, I tried several times, but nothing works.
I'm therefore thinking about returning my hard drive to the store, but I’ve heard that for Samsung warranties, the process can sometimes be quite discouraging for those who aren’t very patient, so I would like to know if another solution might be possible before I do that...?

be careful with files downloaded from peer to peer, there is some junk and of course external devices like hard drives have big problems reading them.
. avi is a too large family, you need dozens of up-to-date "codecs" to read everything, while on a computer a good free VLC plays almost everything without issues (and without codecs), so invest in a laptop instead

I have a friend who bought one and the files were not all recognized by the hard drive.
So he called customer support and they told him that the video formats were not correct. (Only XVID 1.0 supported = codec version dating back to 2006, currently version 1.3.0)
Anyway, we're looking for a software that can encode in dx50 format, which was a codec that was read. I find the software awesome but it runs on Windows (I forgot to tell you that I have a dual boot with Linux/Windows 7 and I mainly use Linux). My friend comes with his hard drive and we connect it to Windows 7 to try to encode all the files in dx50 and see if it works.
And then miracle, Seven detects file indexing errors and repairs them.
Since then, all the files are readable on his computer (running Vista) and his hard drive recognizes all the video files and plays them (avi files, not hd codec xvid and divx).

- on a computer it's easy, we can choose our reading software: VLC media player has the advantage of playing almost everything and it's free, it's a fantastic tool
- on a multimedia HDD there's always a "codec" missing, the trouble is that manufacturers haven't included all the "software=codecs", there are too many. There may also be some licensing issues, most of the time there's no way to perform updates either? (I'll mention Packard Bell Store&play 3500) Anyway, as the owner of this multimedia HDD for quite a long time, I now use it as a simple hard drive and read my files from different sources with my laptop and VLC;
