Calculating percentage in Open Office

Well done NANA, this is the exact formula that allows you to automatically calculate a percentage increase and decrease, the only one that does not result in an error when a percentage must become negative:
either ((A1-B1)/B1)*100 if the cell is formatted as "number";
or ((A1-B1)/B1) if the cell is formatted as "percentage".

Example: a stock purchased at €5 a year ago is €10 today; with this formula I get +100%.
If it's €2.2 today, I get -50%.
Any other formula (like SLOUBI's) will be completely wrong once the percentage becomes negative (that is, once the value of B1 is greater than A1).
If you don't understand it right away, copy both types of formulas onto your spreadsheet and compare: you will be immediately enlightened.

I spent an hour trying to invent this formula (I'm not good at math) and NANA presented it to me on a silver platter (I was starting with a programming with "if A<0", while it's much simpler). Thanks again to the internet and NANA of course.

After reading this message, I can't apply the formula to what I need exactly in Calc:
A1=50
B1=10
What I would like in C1 is the percentage that B1 represents compared to A1.
In this simple calculation, I know that the answer that should be displayed is 20%, but I can't find the formula.

Okay, I fixed the problem. The formula is
(B1/A1)*100
which gives the percentage of B1 with respect to A1
