Hello,
here is my issue, my laptop which is very powerful has a problem at startup, just before the "welcome" of Vista, I get a "please wait" for nearly 5 minutes, the processor doesn't run much during this time. This makes my startup very slow. Meanwhile, I have a friend who has the same laptop from a lower range and starts up twice as fast. Please help me.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.5

So the drivers are on https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=29
there you do automatic detection. you install the ActiveX controls if necessary. the detection takes place. I advise you to update all the drivers. I think the one that solved the problem is the Intel Matrix, etc. there you go, install them all and restart. keep me updated.

Hello and the result: I went from 3 minutes to 2 minutes 30... better than nothing but not impressive! Otherwise, it's a great address that I completely ignored for driver updates! thanks a lot...

I went to msconfig, then to programs and services, and I deleted all the Toshiba programs, and now that annoying "please wait" that was pissing me off for a month is gone...
I hope I helped you, it worked for me anyway.

I tried leaving everything except Toshiba Face Recognition Watcher in "startup" and in services I removed SmartFacewatchsrv.
And now it works, I no longer have that fucking "please wait."
Result, I go from 2 minutes 40 to 1 minute to boot up the PC... And all this just because the facial recognition software was activated at startup... (what a waste!!!) Imagine having to wait an extra 1 minute 40 just for your face to be detected by the PC!!! Thank you, Toshiba!!! And still, I tried and the facial recognition didn't work!!! So once again, thank you!!!
Toshiba is no longer a brand that I will buy and I strongly advise anyone against buying a Toshiba laptop given their reliability!!! If someone in your circle wants a laptop, tell them anything but Toshiba.

Thank you very much! Indeed, it's that useless facial recognition software that weighs 3 tons! Once this service was disabled, I went from about 2'30" to 40 seconds!!! So, everything is OK!
        Thanks again!

Hi, try the trick to resize the Start Menu page 3, maybe you have too many programs at startup: http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/433 Windows Vista

Sure, if I were you, I would do a good cleanup with Glary Utilities. It's free and does a great job.

Well, I don't know, and have you done a registry defragmentation with Glary in Optimize/Improve because it seems to me that your cleaning is quite fast. The first time I used Glary, I did all the cleaning, whether it was disks, the registry, shortcuts, duplicates, empty folders, etc...

Well, my PC is recent, so I don't see why the problem would come from there.

It could be a virus issue, we never know. If I were you, I would ask my question in the virus/security section.

Hi, I have the same problem as you. Every time I start up, I get a long "please wait"... and it really annoys me.

I actually solved the problem; by default, all programs load with Windows Vista. So, you need to remove the programs that load unnecessarily at startup. To do this, click on Start, type Run in the search box, and launch it. In the window, enter msconfig and click OK. In the General tab, check Selective Startup and leave the three boxes checked. Then, go to the Startup tab and you can delete the programs that launch when you turn on the PC; be careful not to disable the antivirus or Windows Defender.
And there you go, then restart the PC and wait no more than 5 minutes...
      I hope this helps you.

      Hello!
Could you be more specific about the updated drivers? I also have this issue on a Toshiba that is otherwise very fast and not at all on a much slower HP!
      Thank you!

    Hi
I have the same problem except that I removed the Toshiba startup programs but I couldn't find the one for facial recognition, and my "please wait" is still long :(
My computer is slow even though it's new! This started happening after the second or third startup and I have to wait more than a minute with "please wait." Please help me! :'(

You go to the Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services and you look for SmartFaceVWatchSrv... then right-click / Properties / Startup type and you choose "Disabled" (then you confirm by OK or Apply or both... I don't remember!)... You close everything and restart Vista ... and let us know how it goes here! Good luck!

Thank you for the information... As a new owner of a Toshiba for a few days, I was starting to get a little impatient with the startup!

Thank you very much for your tutorial; the face recognition, which is useless, was also an issue for me.

...you're welcome! It's still surprising that Toshiba does nothing and forces you to disable this feature!

Think of something that lasts a long time and that you know well, and reconstruct it in the smallest details. If this thing lasts 30 minutes, you will have spent 15 minutes doing so (for example: a movie, a play, or better yet, something that we need to memorize).

With a Mac, there's never a problem because there's hardly anything on it since it's so expensive.
