How to Become a SAP Consultant

Hello,

I would like to become a consultant on SAP! I found the price list offered by SAP itself, which is exorbitant because I would like to have the most sought-after certifications (FI, CO, SD, and MM) as well as some basics in BW and ABAP, which amounts to +/- €30,000; My question is: can we train ourselves differently, how and at what price??? What are the e-learning courses offered on CD-ROMs by some websites worth? And most importantly, can we take the certification exams if we haven't attended the courses at SAP????

If anyone knows how to answer me, that would be very kind, thank you!

Hello everyone,
After looking at all the responses already given by other users, I'm questioning the forum itself: between recruiters looking for profiles, people trying to sell their training kits, and those inviting you to attend their courses... it feels like a flea market...
Now to answer the question:
There isn't really a magic formula or a miraculous solution to training in SAP.
Know that you can train yourself with SAP textbooks (too functional for my taste, but oh well...), or you can also be trained by an expert in the field... everything works.
The key is practice!
You can simply apply to consulting firms (Unilog, Arinso, Cap...) and they will train you.
I'm an engineer and after my studies, I decided to dive into SAP, I knew nothing about it, and I applied to Unilog, who gave me a chance and trained me.
A lot of people criticize consulting firms because they exploit their staff and make a lot of money off the back of consultants; but in the end, you stay for 3 years, training yourself, and then you move on.
Another very important thing: you will never know everything about SAP. Focus on a maximum of 2 modules.
I advise against Administration, but SD and BW are good starting points.
Keep yourself updated with SDN newsletters and gain as much experience as possible.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me: biorx8@gmail.com.

That’s my advice, worth what it’s worth, but it has proven itself.
After 5 years in SAP, I earn a good salary and I am no longer a consultant but in a permanent position with a former client...

Have a great day

Hello,

I have personally been a functional SD for a year and a half after 15 years as a user. I paid for my training with SAP myself, but I went through a Fongecif that covered half of the cost. If you are a recent graduate, companies like Unilog, which I am part of, hire without SAP knowledge and will provide training and certification through SAP.

If you want more information, feel free to reply.

Hello Liliane,

I am very interested in your experience as a consultant at Unilog. You mention that companies like yours train young graduates in technologies like SAP? Do you think they also do this for people who are not young graduates?
Currently, I have 4 years of experience as a developer, but I want to shift towards a consulting job, and I am very interested in ERPs. Should I train on my own, or can I find help in IT service companies?

Thank you for your insightful opinion.

Hello Liliane

I’m a sales engineer in the Telecom sector, and I would like to change my career to become a future SAP SD and MM consultant. You mentioned in October during a debate on SAP that Unilog trains graduates for consulting positions. Do you have a contact you could give me so I can reach out to the person in charge of recruitment? I’m very motivated as I’m only 32 years old, and I realize that I’m not too fond of sales, but building a project is my thing. I’m counting on you to get a response, thank you.

PS: I’m in the Paris region and available yesterday!!!!!!

Hi,
I also have experience (almost 5 years) in IT.
I am currently a project manager but I would like to move into the SAP field in logistics or sales modules.
I applied to Unilog for a junior consultant position but I got rejected.

What do you think is the best way to work in this field?
Would training through an organization like sap-kit.com or sapbestof be a good entry point? Or should I go back to a developer position first knowing that I don't have the functional skills?

Hello Liliane,

I am also looking to change careers; I like my current job less now, and since I've read a lot of articles about SAP, I thought it would be good if I finally specialized.

The module I would like to specialize in is SAP HR, and as confirmed in previous posts, SAP training is not cheap.
In any case, I am also determined to become a consultant.
Do you have any leads where I could send my CV?

I wouldn't encourage anyone to use SAP, because it's a headache; there are other, more sophisticated and effective ERPs that are less tiring. Think, for instance, of Dynamics AX or its little brother Dynamics Nav. I am a junior logistics consultant myself, and I see daily how clients struggle when installing SAP, so here's a friendly piece of advice: SAP is just a marketing cost, there are other products that work better and are more affordable.

I will respond to multiple people at the same time:

RIRI
As you have experience as a Project Manager, you can apply to Unilog specifying that you wish to transition to SAP because, like any quotation, we have tables and a Project Manager generally hasn't gotten their hands dirty.
As for the module to choose, if you are more inclined towards databases, it's better to opt for BW, which is highly sought after in all fields; otherwise, many CRM and HR positions are in demand at the moment. It's up to you, but nothing prevents you from visiting the SAP France website to see what each module contains (which would be an excellent idea).
If you wish, I can recommend you and provide you with the contact details of the person to send your CV to.

NIMS
I can indeed, as mentioned above, give you the contact details of a person to send your CV to.

ALEKZANDER
Same goes for you, Unilog is looking for consultants fresh out of school and not specifically with a Bac+4, so if you're interested, I can also provide you with the contact details of the person to reach out to.

OKAPIPA
I would like to comment on what you just said about SAP, I am a proponent and a convert, 15 years in American companies on SAP and now a consultant, SAP is user-friendly and when I read that some people are struggling with this software, there are two options:
Either the client hasn't paid enough to have all the interactive modules (which often happens)
Or the configuration was unfortunately done by consultants without any industry experience, so they don't understand how the company operates.

Best regards to all

Hello,

I just read your message.
I have been a SAP MM BW user for 6 years and would like to become a functional consultant.
Would it be possible for me to forward my CV to Unilog?

Sincerely,
Motcha

Hello,

If I could give you some advice, know that certifications are not of great value to client companies, and also that it is very difficult to master all the modules.

Start by knowing one well enough and then move on to a complementary one (e.g. WM & MM) or train in ABAP.

Each of these modules is broad, and knowing everything is nearly impossible.

See you!

Christophe

Hello,
Currently, I am training online on http://www.aconsk.com/ for the MM module. I find the step-by-step training concept interesting. The courses and support are satisfactory.

Hi,
I would like to take a course with sap-kit.
After your training, were you able to find a job as an SAP consultant without any problems?

Hello,

I have 2 years of experience in the SD module but only as a user.
Currently, I want to improve my functional skills, particularly regarding configurations, so I can apply for the position of junior functional SD consultant.
I am interested in the distance learning program offered by sap-kit as I find their pricing reasonable and the training serious. Could you tell me more about this process? Were you satisfied with the training?

Thank you in advance for your feedback. Your testimony will be very useful to me.

Hello, currently a student in a BTS IG in work-study, I am looking to become an SAP consultant (SD). I already have experience with SAP at the shipping level, and I have completed two SAP starts at our Production sites (Automotive Equipment Supplier) to date.
I would like to get some tips on certain companies like Unilig that train consultants after their studies!
I would like to know if a BTS level is sufficient, or if I need to continue my studies before applying for SAP training.

Thank you for your responses!
Best regards.

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to become an SAP consultant in one of the modules without any training or with little background in IT (one year of BTS in information management) and what is the most suitable approach (training, duration, etc.). I have also been an SAP user for a year.

Thank you for your advice!

Hello,

I think that a year of experience is a bit light since consultants are expected to provide expertise on various modules.
That said, another path could lead you there more quickly...
If you have the opportunity to take on a key user role in your company for a period of 2 years, I am certain that this could be sufficient to make the transition.
I myself have been a consultant for some time, and I achieved this after eight years of using the ERP.
Please note that currently, the profession is opening up widely due to a shortage of consultants in the field...
Put all the chances on your side, and you will succeed.

Hello,

I read your message from 29/2 with interest.

I have been a management controller for several years with experience in accounting management abroad. Therefore, I understand client expectations regarding ERPs and I am proficient in English and German. However, I am far from key user positions and do not know how to program in SAP FI/CO. The gap between me and becoming a potential consultant is quite large.
With your experience, do you think it is feasible to make this transition in a short time? If so, is it necessary to have training in the mentioned modules? Do you know of any options, apart from SAP itself, which has prohibitively expensive fees?

Thank you in advance for your insights.

There are certifications, which provide certain guarantees, but it's mainly about experience. Moreover, it's unrealistic to believe that you can master all four modules: SD, MM, FI, and CO. Generally, you need to become very good in one module and then move on to another. However, it's not easy to be good in both logistics modules (MM and SD) and finance modules (FI and CO). It's better to specialize in logistics, finance, or HR.
Be sure that you will never fully master even one module.

Hi,

I'm totally in agreement with the answers given...
For training, if you have a good degree or very strong professional experience, you can give it a shot at certain IT services companies that offer training for their newcomers provided by their senior consultants.

See you!

Hello,

I have a lot of professional experience (logistics and customer service) and 6 months of experience with SD/MM and mysap.com, and I have already contacted major IT service companies but haven't found any that want to train me. Do you have any names of IT service companies that train their future recruits?
Thank you very much in advance,

It should be noted that there are three jobs in SAP:
BC Administration...
Development
and Functional
If I understood correctly, you belong to the third category. Indeed, one must make a choice to specialize in a given module such as HR, CO.......

Good luck to everyone!

Hello,

If you have an updated resume, could you send it to me at LCAMENEN@HOTMAIL.COM? They appreciate all experiences in IT, and I could recommend you. One point, you might end up working on something other than SAP, that is the problem with Unilog.

Keep me posted

Hello Liliane,

I have read your messages with interest, particularly yours.
Therefore, I would like your advice on how to effectively approach SAP because I have a problem: "20 years of experience in IT, from programmer to project manager in the field of application development, and for the last two years, I have been doing pure sales in real estate."
I would like to move away from pure technical matters and am thinking of starting with a module, but I'm unsure which one is the most suitable for me? What training? It would be great if an IT services company would accept me as a beginner in SAP.
Thank you in advance.

I'm a bit in the same situation: I hope the mentality changes, especially in the workplace: not enough experience, too young, too old... that we are given a chance to try.
Thank you anyway for your question because I would have asked it, and Liliane's answer is great

Hello,

- Do you think it is possible to become a junior SAP consultant by following the training from SAP France, without any diploma or professional experience in management and accounting?
- If a minimum level in accounting and management is required, I am willing to take a refresher course in order to be able to follow the SAP France training.
- If a minimum level in accounting and management is required, could you please indicate a training organization where I could take this course?
- Finally, is it possible to find a job with just the certification?
Furthermore, I would like to bring to your attention that I am willing to self-fund everything.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello Liliane,

Holding a DUT in Business and Administration Management with a specialization in Personnel, I have spent 16 years as a Payroll and Personnel Administration Functional IT Consultant in a construction group using GXP and then SAP HR.
I am currently specializing in Payroll Management and Personnel Administration at IFOCOP to develop and ensure my operational employability, as for personal reasons, I need to move to the Bouches du Rhône this summer.
I would like to continue my career as a consultant in the south by joining an SII.

How should I proceed to send you a resume?

Thank you.
