Hello,
I bought a Verbatim mediastation pro and I am very disappointed:
Issue 1: High-resolution photos cannot be viewed (Insufficient memory, incompatible format)
Issue 2: Video playback doesn’t work; I have audio glitches and no images.
Issue 3: Can't access the disk via FTP. Files are visible but cannot be read or written.
In the specifications and forums, they talk about NDAS: No code on my HDD and no option to activate in the menu that mentions NDAS.
I wanted to update the firmware, but I can’t find anything to do it; can you help me?
Thank you all

Hello,
I just bought the 640GB and I can't get the image on my TV!!! I tried the 3 types of video output (S-Video or YUV) but despite pressing the video button on the remote continuously, nothing happens :-(
If I connect it via USB to my PC, it detects the drive. -
Hello,
I want to respond to Valephil regarding FTP access:
Personally, I managed to connect to the hard drive via FTP by connecting the Mediastation Pro (which I will call MSP) to my Freebox via Ethernet.
Details of the steps taken:
- First, I connected the MSP via USB to my PC. I then created some directories and placed a few files there.
- Then I unplugged the USB and plugged it into Ethernet on my Freebox (the MSP switched to DHCP and connected to the network). To find its IP address on the network, you need to go to the "Network" icon in the setup (the icon next to WIFI, still in the setup).
- I then entered the MSP setup and went to the FTP icon. There, I enabled FTP. Normally, by default, the FTP username is "altechuser" and the password is "altech," with the port as "21."
- Next, back on the PC: I created a new FTP access in Filezilla with the previously retrieved information, and I was able to access the MSP's hard drive, but in a directory I hadn't seen via USB ... Surprising. So I made a couple of changes that ultimately didn’t change anything at all. So I started copying a divx to the MSP in that famous directory, hoping to find it by chance through the MSP interface ... The file copied successfully, and then, by miracle, the directories I had previously created via my USB connection appeared!!! :)
I admit I didn't understand how that happened, but I'm glad to be where I am!
Regarding playing movies and photos, can you provide me with more information (size, video format, codecs ...), as I tried 2 videos without any issues, but I would like to do more tests.

You have the TV now you can set up your video, in the video options on the media station that you can see on the TV, select HDMI! Turn off the media station and reconnect the HDMI, and it should work!
Received from verbatim!
Sir,
To set up the MediaStation hard drive on a wireless network,
please follow the instructions below-
- in the Wireless menu of the television, select DHCP
- on the remote control, to see the allocated IP address, press
the Info button
- press the Info button again to see the password
and the username that you will use to configure FileZilla
- press the OK button to exit the menu
- in the Wireless menu again, select your wireless
network (Wanadoo, I believe) then OK
- select AP Mode
- SSID should fill in automatically
- then go to the Protocol menu and select Samba
- in the FTP menu, make sure that FTP is enabled
- in FileZilla, select to use only one connection at
a time
To verify the communication between the wireless network and the MediaStation hard drive, on the PC, go to the Start/Run menu
and type cmd then Enter.
Type in this new window ping (a space) and the IP address
of the external hard drive.
If you get a response, this means that the network communication
is established.
To transfer files via FileZilla,
make sure you have created your shares according to the manual provided on
the CD.
Best regards,

File transfer to the MediaStation hard drive over a network
Overview
FileZilla is a free software compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac.
Network Setup
It is first important to configure the network on the MediaStation. It can be connected via cable or wirelessly, although the cable connection performs better for large file transfers. The IP address of the hard drive can be dynamic (DHCP) or static, where the IP address is entered manually. If files need to be transferred regularly, it may be more beneficial to have a manual IP address that will not change.
Setting up the FTP server on the MediaStation
Turn on the MediaStation after connecting it to the television
Once it has finished booting, press the Setup button on the remote. Browse the menu left or right until you are on the FTP icon and press the OK button
Please note that the FTP server can only be configured if the FTP server option is set to OFF. If it is ON, please reconfigure it to OFF.
4 types of settings can be changed for the FTP server:
FTP Server Save To Path the default value is /hdd/DISK1
Server ID the default value is altechuser
Server Password the default value is altech
Server Port the default value is 21
If you are doing this for the first time, it is probably best to leave these settings as they are
When you have finished making the necessary changes, reconfigure the FTP Server to ON
Press the Setup button on the remote and save the settings
You are now ready to connect to the PC via the FileZilla software (this software is not provided with the drive)
Configuring FileZilla
After downloading FileZilla from the link https://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/files/
double-click on the downloaded file to install the program. Once installed, launch FileZilla. You will need to enter 3 things before you can connect to the FTP server:
Address – the IP address of your MediaStation, e.g. 192.168.2.1
User – (user) – this is the server identification from the previous section - Server ID
Password – (password) this is the server password as above
Port – if you left the value 21 above, there is no need to enter it since the default port is 21.
You should now be able to connect your MediaStation by clicking on the QuickConnect button in FileZilla. You should then see the list of local files on the left side of the screen and the MediaStation window on the right side.
To transfer files from the local computer to the MediaStation, select the file or folder in question in the part of the screen representing your local files and drag it to the part of the screen representing the MediaStation. You can also do the reverse. -
Good evening,
after many attempts to get the MediaStation Pro to work as NDAS, it turns out that it's not possible.
I contacted Verbatim support who confirmed to me that the MediaStation Pro (Ethernet and WIFI) does not have this feature. However, the Mediastation (Ethernet only) does have it. I also thought that if it can do the more, it can do the less, but no...
This can be verified on the Verbatim website:
- Verbatim MediaStation: https://www.verbatim.fr/404.php (the NDAS function is mentioned)
- Verbatim MediaStation Pro: https://www.verbatim.fr/404.php (no mention of NDAS)
I purchased this product from RueDuCommerce which mentions a NAS function in the product sheet: http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Disques-Durs-externes/Disque-Dur-Multimedia/VERBATIM/435195-Disque-Dur-Multimedia-3-5-500Go-NAS-FullHD-1080p-HDMI-Ethernet-10-100bt-USB-2-0.htm
I asked for a return, they will check that I'm not talking nonsense when I explain to them that the product sheet is incorrect (since if it doesn't do NDAS, it's not a NAS), which should spare me the return shipping costs ;)
This will teach me to trust product sheets and to check directly with the manufacturer/reseller.
Otherwise, removing the NDAS part, from what I've tested:
- WIFI setup is fine without too many problems (tested fixed and DHCP). The wifi function allows reading content from other computers from the disk but not reading the content of the disk from a PC (NDAS).
- I successfully connected via FTP with the default altech credentials: ok, I didn't test writing
- I tested the SAMBA function which allows access to a share on a PC and reading multimedia content, tests passed for photos.
- Playback of AVI videos and JPG images on TV works without any issues
- i-Radio is fine (streaming radios), but there's no option to choose the streaming site.
- The disk acts as a USB host (not tested). This allows connecting another USB disk or a card reader for cameras to visualize content on the TV.
Additionally, for those looking for more information, the product is an equivalent of the MediaGate MG350HD (or almost, the firmware of the verbatim is a MG350S). You will also notice the remote control of the box in this photo: https://d39f23jfph0ylk.cloudfront.net/mediagateusa.com.jpg
That's it. Once again, be careful with what merchant sites say...
Have a good evening

To shed light on those who are desperately searching like I was for hours:
I have a MEDIASTATION Ethernet model (not the PRO)
XIMETA NDAS Software 3.40.1604.12098 LENA: Not recommended for use with FAT32 formatted NetDisks
As noted on the XIMETA website, the software is not recommended for use with hard drives formatted in FAT32, except that the VERBATIM MEDIASATION comes formatted in FAT32 by default, and it is not indicated anywhere that it needs to be formatted in NTFS when connected via USB (the quick format takes about 1 minute) before using it with NDAS.
Indeed, when formatted in FAT32, it causes bugs and disconnection losses after about 30-40 minutes.
After formatting the disk to NTFS, the connection is stable and hasn't disconnected for about a dozen hours now.
Ximeta specifies that USB and Ethernet connections should not be used simultaneously on a disk as this causes data loss.
For my part, I have very poor bandwidth in NDAS (Mediastation connected via Ethernet to a 85 mb powerline),
the speed from PC to Mediastation is capped at 1 MB, but I haven't found a solution yet.
Note that transfer speeds over USB 2 are around 25-30 MB/S.
Apparently, it is not possible to configure an FTP server for the Mediastation unlike the PRO model, for which NDAS is not provided but FTP server is supported. -
We bought the multimedia hard drive yesterday and I must admit that setting it up for use is tough!!!! Anyway, we managed to do it thanks to the advice in this discussion.
Following the various discussions on this subject, what is the point of a multimedia hard drive if we can’t put files larger than 4GB on it???? And why must it be formatted in FAT32? Apparently for stability reasons... but damn, I call that a big scam.
Also, what is the point of the WiFi function if it’s only to avoid constantly plugging and unplugging to copy files???? Well, no, we can only transfer via WiFi using FTP, which takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to transfer a file larger than 3GB.... They’re really messing with us!
So to sum up, what can I do with a Full HD multimedia hard drive on which I can’t put files larger than 4GB, meaning no copying of HD DVDs!!! And what do I do with WiFi that is only competent for listening to internet radios????
Thank you

Hello, I bought a MediaStation Pro hard drive the day before yesterday and I'm having quite a bit of trouble connecting to Wi-Fi. Indeed, I managed to synchronize with the Livebox (the first info page shows me the signal strength), but I can't ping it from my PC. I followed what was indicated in post 14, but nothing works. I tried to connect using WIRELESS, but it can't find the hard drive either. If someone could help me, that would be nice, it must surely be something to adjust in the Livebox or on my PC.
Thank you in advance. -
Here is the English translation: I finally succeeded.
So for those who want to send files from the PC to the media station via FTP, here is the solution:
1st Possibility
You can go to "Computer Shortcut," double click to open it, and right-click "Add a network location," then click next 2 times, and in "Network or Internet address," enter by default: "ftp://altechuser:altech@192.168.xxx.xxx:21," so altechuser = username, altech = password, and finally 192.168.xxx.xxx:21 = the IP address of the media station, the xxx.xxx are the numbers of your IP that I cannot know. Don’t forget the :21 at the end of the IP address; it's the entry port. Click next "Enter a name for this network location." I put "Test" as on the settings of my media station, and there you go, it's done. After that, just click on it to establish the connection.
The only downside I found was that the speed is quite slow.
2nd Easier Possibility
Install the Core FTP Lite software. Once installed, go to "Sites/Site Manager" and configure your site.
Site name: Test
Host / IP / URL: "ftp://altechuser:altech@192.168.xxx.xxx:21"
Username: altechuser
Password: altech
Port: 21
And normally that's it. Then click Connect, and you are in your media station. I find the speed a bit faster but nothing extraordinary; a DivX takes between 20 to 25 minutes to transfer.
For those who have FileZilla as their FTP software, it doesn't work; I don’t know why, but it doesn’t work.
Well, I hope these explanations can help you because this media station is really a hassle.
See you later! -
Hello,
I was able to "solve" my connection issue with my verbatim Media Station Pro hard drive using the Core TFP Lite software. This allows me to transfer files (upload or download) without errors.
I remain convinced that there are better network multimedia hard drives out there. -
Additional clarification, but is it really useful: when retrieving the DD's IP from the INFO message, it is of course necessary to take the information on "WIRELESS IP" and the first "WIRED IP," which is for a connection through Ethernet.

Hello and Happy New Year 2009 to all,
richu65, what exactly is not working and what is already working? What is your setup (which box, wired network or not, etc.)?
Is the Wi-Fi configuration working? What is the problem?
Also, remember that Verbatim's French customer support is not a premium rate number (it seems to me).-
Here's what I found, since those at Verbatim are incapable of doing anything and just took a made in China product and added their brand on top:
http://www.airlinktek.com/english/product.php?prod=mg35s
The product is originally MADE IN CHINA, so since the guys at Verbatim did nothing, they obviously can't know the product and even less make firmware updates.
So I took the firmware available from the real manufacturer and it works perfectly.
I have the Mediastation Network version (not the Pro), so you need to take the firmware for the MG-35S version:
http://www.airlinktek.com/english/file_swfw/MG35_1.5.1_Eng.upgrade
Good luck and I hope this can help you as it helped me.

Thank you for the link.
However, this concerns the MG350SHD product as an equivalent to the Mediastation Pro Wi-Fi found on Rue du Commerce.
A whole bunch of tutorials (that I haven't read yet) can be found here: http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard.php?class1=pds&class2=manual
Any ideas on how to access the FTP server outside of the local network??? (i.e. from work, for example) -
-
Do you confirm that you have the same understanding as I do?
If it is indeed the MG 350 S HD ... then this latest firmware:
http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard_view.php?class1=pds&class2=swfw&page=1&kind=&uid=2329&keyfield=&key=&product=0532
would enable NDAS support!!!
Please note that the update is not compatible with the non-S version ... any volunteers to test and confirm NDAS support??? -
http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard_view.php?class1=cs&class2=faq&page=1&kind=&uid=2486&keyfield=&key=&product
It seems straightforward, you just need to copy the file to the root, reboot, select it afterwards with the TV interface of the Mediastation, then press play and follow the instructions...

Has anyone attempted to update their MSP with the MG-350SHD 1.1.11 Firmware (With NDAS) found on the website: http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard.php?class1=pds&class2=swfw?

Hello,
Don't you think that the NDAS (over RJ45 of course and not WiFi: CPL solution) would allow for a much better transfer rate than FTP?
Today I’m getting 600KB/s over FTP WiFi and I tested FTP over RJ45/CPL, which goes up to 1.2MB/s. I tell myself that with NDAS over CPL it should be even better, but I admit I don't dare to upgrade until it’s validated by VERBATIM and I have proof that it allows my MSP to switch to NDAS (nothing is really specified on the aforementioned website).
Even if VERBATIM sells a product they didn't manufacture (KOREAN) and don't seem to really master it, they still remain serious in terms of products. -
Hello,
I share the same opinion. Ultimately, regarding the speed related to NDAS, as long as we haven't tested it at home, we can't be sure. I rely on various opinions, in a general sense, for NDAS, but the configurations of one or the other are sometimes so different...
I share the same opinion (already expressed here in this same forum) regarding the update. Especially since, in my case, everything works fine. Currently, I'm even using a 4 GB High Speed MAXTOR USB key to transfer DivX files to this key and read them on the HDD. It's very fast, even for large files, and there are no playback issues. Perfect, it suits me perfectly. And I still have the FTP server if I need it.
The NDAS wouldn't bring me anything (in my view), so... I won't take any risks with an "uncertain" update.
As for support, like in many companies, a product is put on sale and the support is the last to know... with no more information than the customers!!
Where does this "12" update come from when ALTECH announces an "11" from June 2008...?
Who knows if it's not Verbatim that removed it for technical or commercial reasons regarding NDAS...?
No idea!

-
Apparently, the problem has been resolved since I formatted the media station to NTFS... however, the transfer speed via Ethernet is quite slow!!!

Hello,
I have a Mediastation Pro and everything is working perfectly, both for playback and for FTP connection (via FTP clients like Filezilla or Windows Explorer), so if I can help, go ahead.
But please be clear about your issue or issues. -
Hello,
I am also in the same situation as you; some of my movies have images but no sound, another has sound but no image, and some photos are unreadable... and it's impossible to find a solution to update... !!
If you find a solution before me... and vice versa
Thank you

Hello,
Another point to clarify: no matter how much I change the login and password on the MSP for FTP access, it doesn’t seem to take effect. I can still connect using “Altechuser” and “altech”.

Hello,
Following various responses and an email from Verbatim, I still cannot communicate via FTP with the hard drive.
I can connect successfully, I see the files present, but as soon as I want to read or write, I get the following message (FilZILLA)
530 Server Busy
Critical Error
Connection to server Impossible
Thank you for helping me because if I wait for Verbatim, it will take time...
Thank you-
Well ...
I just bought the mediastation pro 500Go and I stressed out trying to get FTP access working from my Vista.
But given the "busy ftp" anomaly, I assume there's a frame issue addressed to the server on the other side (which must be a nux-like). So I thought ... "maybe using pure FTP will work." And in the command prompt, it was perfect, I was able to upload files one by one. A satisfying first step.
And since I know Linux and Unix, I thought "let's take an FTP tool, the most powerful in the world and not a crappy graphical interface": I'm talking about ncftp (- you can find the link via Google). And there, it was great because with a put -R you can upload a (n) directory at once. Just prepare what you need and bingo.
There you go, I hope this helps you :) -
I had the same issue while testing the installation with the hard drive near the PC.
Everything has been sorted out since I moved the two devices a few meters apart.
I think the PC's WIFI was interfering with that of the hard drive.
If your issue is not resolved to this day, I can provide my network setup if necessary.

Hello,
I have, just like you, a Verbatim NDAS Multimedia MediaStation external hard drive.
I would like to know if anyone has managed to upgrade the firmware to add video codecs?
Indeed, it doesn't support many formats by default (no WMV, uncertain AVI... or JPG...)
If so, a link would be appreciated, along with the update procedure, as we don't have access to the system via USB...
Thank you.-
Hello everyone,
I've faced the same issue regarding FTP transfer.
For your information, it works via Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) with the following command:
ftp://login:pass@adresseIP
Otherwise, with FileZilla, go to the site manager, then in transfer settings limit the number of downloads to 1.
And like magic, it works.
