Windows XP only runs in Safe Mode.

Hello,

the essence of my problem is summarized in the title: when starting the computer, everything seems to go normally until reaching the "Windows XP" screen (with the small blue loading bar below), then the screen displays that there is no signal input and the computer restarts by itself. Only "Safe Mode" and "Safe Mode with Networking" work.

Restoring the last known good configuration changed nothing, nor did the antivirus scan (software or online) and a cleanup with Ccleaner.

I posted the problem in the Windows section, but it's possible the issue comes from something else; I really have no idea.

If anyone has encountered this problem before or if anyone has an idea on how to solve this issue, please let me know because I’m completely stuck.

Thank you in advance :)
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.15

Hello Mordy,
In safe mode, go to the start menu/run, type msconfig OK in the window that opens, general tab, check normal startup (small circle to be put in green) then apply and ok.
See you!

Hello lacharpente,

I came to re-check, and it was this option that was checked by default. I modified it and then changed it back, validated, and restarted, but unfortunately without any result :(

Go back to msconfig, check if SAFEBOOT is unchecked. You can also check the boot path, it might give a clue about what's going on.
See you!

I went to the BOOT.INI tab and all options (including /SAFEBOOT) are unchecked.
When I request a check of the boot paths, it indicates that:

All BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems seem valid.

Obviously, I have to perform all these operations in safe mode (I don't know if this affects what is being checked).

No, no impact, that would be rather reassuring, because there is only the minimum here to normally start your system.
Go back to msconfig, startup tab, disable everything, shut down and restart. Results? If there is an improvement, check them one by one until you find the one that causes the issue.
See you!

There were 7 services that I unchecked all of them. However, it still didn't change anything. Upon rebooting (with everything unchecked), the same error occurred, the computer rebooted itself, and only safe mode still works.... :(

RE
Do you remember if you did anything special before your last shutdown and that it doesn't happen?
Do you have an official licensed version?
Do you have installation or repair disks?
In safe mode, do you have an account choice? Try to recreate one.
See you!

The problem is that this is not my computer and this issue seems to be a bit older.

It is a retail computer (big box store), which implies everything that comes with it: the version of Windows is legal, but the tools provided (installation CDs, etc.) are very limited (as if a computer sold as is would never have issues requiring a format ^^).

I will test these account-related things and get back to you quickly with a response.

I created a new account (Admin), rebooting didn’t change anything. I then tried to delete the old account used (there was only one) and still nothing!

I’m beginning to think there’s no solution to this matter...

RE
Start with network support, go to start/my computer/right-click on your main drive/properties/tools tab/click on check, check only repair automatically and start.
Defragment afterwards.
See you!
