Hello,
so here it is, I had a PS3 that after 5 months stopped reading any games or movies...
I took it back to the customer service
today I went to pick it up and they told me that Sony sent me a new one instead of replacing the optical drive
so far I'm happy I have a new one =D
at home I try to start it and I notice that there’s sound but no image.
thinking that it might be my faulty HDMI cable, I try it with the AV cable provided with the PS3
still the same
I try it on a second HD TV
still the same
so is it the PS3??
I wanted to know if this has ever happened to any of you? and can I do a workaround or do I need to go back to customer service?
thanks everyone

Same problem except I have an AV cable and not an HDMI, and when I got my PS3 back I found a letter saying: Warning! The consoles are set to HDMI. In case of a black screen, please follow the instructions referenced on page 8.
which said:
to hold the on/off button for 5 seconds if I changed the cable until I hear 2 beeps!!
that's what I did several times! I hear the two beeps but the screen remains black and the sound works!!
I then thought the problem was with the AV SCART cable that was passed to me, so I took the cable from my PS2 since it's the same as the one for the PS3 and it didn't work :'(
what should I do?! What can I do?! Maybe I should send it back to customer service but Sony will send me one programmed in HDMI!! Please help me!!

You just need to start the console by pressing and holding the POWER touch button for 5 seconds until you hear a second beep, and just like magic, it works, and it's in 576p standard resolution (SCART).
Someone can help me? I got my new SCART cable and I can't see anything on my PS3 but I can hear the sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This bug has been going on for 2 weeks, I dropped it until it no longer recognizes the picture but only the sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Yes! That's exactly it! But maybe my case is different from yours! Because my Play just came out of after-sales service and it was set up in HDMI and it still is! I still can't connect it via AV without getting a black screen but with sound! So what I recommend is to always try to set it up in HDMI on a television that has an HDMI port.
If only we could contact Sony... we just need to let them know
and I'm afraid that if you send it back, they won't even bother to test it and will say that you didn't do this manipulation.
Otherwise, you can go back to the store and put pressure on them; they will at least try, and when they see that it doesn't work, they will surely call Sony's customer service who will tell them to send it back.

Does your TV have multiple peritel connections? Maybe the problem is with the TV. Have you tried plugging another device into the AV port of your TV? Like a DVD player or something else? To see if it does the same thing.

Hi, I think your problem comes from your TV!! I have the same problem, black screen and no sound, it's been a month already!! However, when I connect it to an LCD TV via HDMI, it works perfectly!!! I just have to get another TV!! In any case, I don't think the problem is with your console!!
I managed to solve the problem my way: (but I think I could have fixed it better in the settings)
Actually, at the end of August, I was given a new TV with HDMI options, I tried the PS3, and it worked!!
But if you have the same problem, I advise you to go to customer service and try it on a screen that has HDMI
and if it works, switch to AV cable (because now that I can see the screen, I know what I should have done)
Because the button technique is not 100% reliable, so try my method!! (and it’s not the TV since I tried it on my friend's TV, but it did the same thing, so the problem was that it was configured in HDMI and not in SCART)

I have roughly the same issue as you, San, but with a few differences.
First of all, my PS3 has never been connected via HDMI to an HD TV; it has always been connected via AV with a SCART cable. I have a black screen, but I can hear sound. No matter how much I hear that the famous technique of waiting for the second beep on startup is the solution, it isn't for me. I've tried this technique several times.
So, if I understand correctly, you advise connecting it to an HD TV with an HDMI cable to reconfigure it for SCART, is that right?

Did you try turning on the Play in standby mode and then holding the button until something appears? Otherwise, I'm sorry, I can't help you :(
Or try keeping your finger on the power button while pressing the power button on the back. Otherwise, bring it back to the store so they can try
