Hello everyone,

Do you know how to create filters based on attachment extensions in Mozilla Thunderbird?

I have tried to create some that target extensions like ".pif", ".scr", ".exe", etc., in the subject line, but that doesn't solve my problem, which is to discard everything that has attachments with the extensions mentioned above.

Thanks in advance to all of you. ;-))

See you...che.

Well, I've found a little trick to partly solve my small problem, namely through managing spam.

When you receive an email with an attachment like ".pif", just tell Thunderbird to mark the message as spam.
First, you need to configure the rules for each account using the "Tools" panel => "Junk Mail Controls..."
Some messages may still end up in the "Junk" folder even though they shouldn't. To fix this, click on the message and mark it as "Not Junk".
I don't have enough hindsight, but I suppose that over time, the rules will adjust and become more precise (I remind you that spam management is performed through the software's self-learning ability to recognize unwanted emails ;-) .

So, I'll try to keep you updated. But if you have other suggestions, feel free ;-)))

    See you later...che.

    Hello Jipicy !

Can you try to create a message filter with:

    Body / contains / name="
    and
    Body / contains / .ext"

    Choose "Meet ALL these conditions".
And for the action, of course, choose the one you want.

But what you wanted to do is to delete only the attachments, not the entire email, right?
So, if that's it, I'm sorry, but I don't know how to do that at all...
    :-)

    See you later :-)

      Thank you for responding, Thom@s.

What you are suggesting I have already done. The problem is that emails from "Secuser.com", for example, go straight to the trash ;-((
What I would like is for it to analyze the attachments, and if they contain a file with the ".exe" or ".src" extensions, then yes => straight to "trash" ;-))

      Thanks again.

      See you soon...che.

The problem is that emails from "Secuser.com" for example, go straight to the trash
      Well no :-)
Since Secuser's emails do not contain name=" (which indicates the presence of an attachment).
      :-)
So, by creating a rule with:

      Body / contains / name="
      AND
      Body / contains / .ext"

it should work and it won't delete Secuser's emails :-)

That said, it’s sure that it will delete the entire email and not just the attachment...
      Sorry...

I'll see if there's a plugin or freeware that does this and I'll let you know :)

      See you later :-)

I couldn't find any extensions or freeware...

But by the way, why do you want to delete all the attachments with suspicious extensions?
You're on Linux, right? And .com, .exe, .src, and others don't run on the penguin, do they?
      :-)

Sorry for not being able to help you...

      Catch you later! :-)

Don't be sorry, no worries ;o)

Yes, I'm on Linux and I'm definitely safe, but that doesn't stop you from wanting to implement security measures ;-))
It's just to know how to do it and not have to remove them manually (ah, laziness when it gets to us... ;-)) )

        See you later...che.
