Hello,
I just restored my system and I wanted to reinstall my Wifi printer (Lexmark Z1420).
For the first installation, no problem at all, but now when I install it, everything seems to go smoothly but the test page doesn’t print and the printer doesn’t appear in the list of printers in the control panel?
When I try to add a printer, I get the error message "Unable to install printer, a policy is blocking NT 4.0 drivers."
I tried to install the printer on my friend's laptop, and everything went great, it was recognized and appears in the control panel.
I read on a site that "Unable to install the printer. The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks Windows NT 4.0 drivers. If you want to use this driver, contact your system administrator to disable this policy."
It talks about disabling kernel mode, I don’t understand anything... of course, they don’t tell you how to do it.
Does anyone know the procedure to follow?

Well, enough research, I have THE solution!!
After a full day of struggling with kernel mode printer drivers after contacting my network administrator, who is myself like most of you, and who didn't know what else to do to remove the policy.
Having tried to install a non-locally kernel mode driver and all sorts of nonsense that the Windows support site advised me to do
Alright, I’m taking the time to tell you anyway: you just have to disable the firewall (firewall for the close ones) it’s pretty simple, right?
With that said, happy printing and other wifi scanning!

I have the same issue on Windows 7 with a Canon LBP 600 and I don't see any way to allow these drivers.
