Windows Media Player very slow

Hello,
A few weeks ago, I bought a second-hand desktop PC from a trusted person in my circle.
After resetting it, installing the drivers, and basic software, I noticed that Windows Media Player (version 11.057....) is extremely slow!
(My docs/my music/fichierMusik/'click' --> 5 seconds wait at best and the music starts!!)

I won't even mention the transition between two tracks :-s

Being accustomed to this software which had never disappointed me before with my old PC,
I wondered how to fix this very annoying problem!!! :-@

In case there's nothing that can be done (fatality, randomness of the PC installation...) please recommend THE media player with these criteria:
-- Playback of all formats
-- Effective equalizer
-- FAST (launches music almost instantly)
-- The "library" is secondary since I have most of my music on CD/DVD.

Sorry for my spelling, thanks in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP sp3 Firefox 2.0.0.14

I recommend my fetish that uses 0 or almost no RAM, it's Windows Media Player Classic (the free version of course).
It's much more efficient than your counterpart!!!! The settings are, in any case, easier to find and, in my opinion, much richer and more complete.

For videos, with the initial codecs you can already play a lot
However, there is no library support but that depends on your usage!!

Hello, I'm not against it, but can we do a selection of one hour, for example? While making a 3-second transition and adding more bass while removing a bit of treble?
If yes, my choice might be made

But does anyone know where the problem comes from?

Transition 3 seconds ok! More bass and a bit of treble for sure (I have an analog equalizer at the sound output so I'm not worried about it on the PC), however, I don't understand the selection of an hour (if it's a 1-hour playlist of course)

For your problem, it must be your RAM actually; you didn’t tell us your setup!

Yes, I'm sorry I misspoke. What I mean is that I can select 10 tracks from CD n°1, 4 tracks from my USB drive, and finally 3 tracks from the "my music" folder.
But I want to change them each time without having predefined playlists!

It is quite possible; that's precisely the principle. You go to the "view" tab and click on "playlist," and you'll have an adjustable white band.

One certain advantage is that you can simply drag tracks from the archives.rar instead of double-clicking on WMP, which erases your current playlist if you haven't checked "add to the end."

In short, it is more flexible; I am a FAN of it ;-)

I just glanced at the bass and treble; you need to increase the sound quality in the options, and that way, you won't distort the sound and you'll have better performance.

(By default, this player has a sound that comes out stronger than WMP!!!

I don't put "problem solved" yet because I would like other opinions on other software!
But thank you Vlar, for now you have convinced me for this WMP clasik' ;-)

Afterwards, there is BSplayer which is nice too (for subtitles for example), it delivers good audio quality

VLC which is quite powerful too, we'll see if it runs well on your machine (many people stick to this player by default) both for audio and video

Winamp, but it consumes a lot of RAM, so depending on your problem with WMP, it might be the same or worse with this one (for me it’s really terrible, 1 to 2 minutes to launch, but it’s essential for me because it manages the streaming of your sound on webradio)

iTunes --> not bad in terms of equalizer, manages libraries and USB devices and transition times between songs, but again it is designed for Mac OS X, so we’ll see if it performs well on PC
In any case, it is really wonderful on Mac, it does everything, even radio!!! I’m a fan lol!!

RealPlayer is also quite good, you can form your own opinion (I was disappointed, probably due to the disastrous state of my system at the time)

Okay, the thing that surprises me is that I have 1 GB of RAM and I'm really careful about the processes running, my amount of RAM used/available, etc.

I have VLC, but I don't really like it for music; I prefer it for videos and movies...

I thought iTunes was reserved for the elite owners of iPods?!
Anyway, I've never tested Real Player or Winamp either

Three software programs to test today, I won't be slacking off (laughs)

For iTunes, it is mandatory for those who have an iPod and essential for purists lol but it will be up to you to get used to iTunes.

As for RAM, I have as much as you (and for a laptop) so you might need to do what I do: a defragmentation!! It improves your performance, and what processor do you have??

    Good evening everyone,
5 seconds? That's not bad! For me, it takes 5 minutes!!
I have the original Windows Media Player from the computer (Windows Vista)
I've already waited 15 minutes for a song... Help please! Thanks!

The same problem on my side, it’s not just slow, it freezes the entire computer and yet I have a core i7...

If you know how to fix it, let me know, I will use VLC in the future...
