Hello everyone

Here is my problem, I installed Windows Media Player 11 and it doesn't add my audio, video, and image files entirely; it only adds a very small portion. I have 3 hard drives
Although I specified the paths to my files, it does not add them to my library.

I would like some guidance on whether there is any manipulation to be done
and please avoid answers like: "use iTunes" or "add to the library," etc. (I've already done that!!!) If I'm posting, it's because my previous searches returned answers that made no sense
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP SP2 Ahtlon 64 3000 + Firefox 2.0

ReHello,

Whoa, but I haven't drunk anything... no, I made a mistake, the correct directory is

C:\Users\your account\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

and there you delete its content (or you copy it to a directory like "to destroy" for more security)
And by restarting Windows Media Player 11, or MCE since they are closely linked, the library will be rebuilt from the beginning (it may take several good minutes depending on the number of audio/video files you have).

Don’t worry if you deleted the contents of "ehome." The "Art cache" directory contains the thumbnails of your album covers or videos. They will be rebuilt by MCE at its next launch. So delete them when you have tidied up the images of your covers in your MP3 album directories (folder.jpg file as I explained in the previous post).

Good luck =)

Here is the solution

it comes from this site: https://weblogs.asp.net/chuckop/395139

I took a little time to understand
I will explain:

Sometimes WMP11 does not list all the music even after trying to manually add the folder

You need to open the MS-DOS command prompt.

Go INTO the folder where the music is located (with MS-DOS Command)
(for example, for me: d:\music)

And, once in the folder, type:
attrib -s d:\music*.* /s /d

(be careful to type the folder where your music is located instead of "d:\music")

You will get a number of errors on files like Desktop.ini, Thumbs.db, Folder.jpg, and AlbumArt * jpg

According to this site, these errors are valid. The directories will have their attribute system reset. This will have the effect of stripping the attribute system on all files and directories. Indeed, a number of hidden folders generate errors, but which can be ignored. (I don't know what that means unfortunately... but it works!)

for those who do not know how to use ms-dos, look for tutorials on the web.

Thank you for this little magic command that worked well in my case.

Indeed, my library refused to update correctly, the files, although present in the playlist, imported by drag and drop, only partially appeared in the library. Incomplete albums or even completely absent. In short, more than half of the audio files actually present on my disk were missing, even though they were all playable.

I do not quite understand the magic formula behind this command, but in any case, it works. One detail, however: the command you provided differs from the one in the link at the beginning of your message. Indeed, you should not type

attrib -s directory address audio *.* /s /d but
attrib -s directory address audio * /s /d

In the first case, it did not work, but in the second case, everything seems to be back to normal.

There you go, just a little clarification, thanks again for finding this trick; I couldn't imagine being without WMP 11, which is really well done... except for this little strange thing...

Hello

Same issue, the library is no longer updating whether it is when extracting an audio CD, photo CD, or a new file present on my hard drive.
I checked in tools/options/extract music that WMP 11 is indeed extracting to the correct location on my hard drive C:\Users\...\Music but the

Hello, I finally managed to solve this problem by simply clearing the media player's cache in the following way:

Show hidden files and system files in folder options.
Then go to the root of C: to open
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
clear the entire folder...
now all you have to do is rescan your library from the player.

Hello,
I can't read the files from the library... however, the player reads the files from my CD drive well, and I can burn the files in the library to mp3. The playback issue seems to only concern the reading of my files from the library... Thank you for your help (just simple, please, I'm not a computer expert).

Hello Lockart and everyone,

So know that under Vista, system folders are protected, so try to go through:

C:\Users\your account\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ehome

and delete the files inside as well as the artcache folder.

Thus, Vista, and more specifically its Media Player 11, will have to rescan all the library directories upon reopening to take stock. It will then delete all the thumbnails from the cache for the album covers.

For this last point, make sure to have a folder for each album, and in each folder, the cover of that album, in the form of an image file "folder.jpg". Media Player will use this one as a priority to display your album covers. If it doesn't find it, it will search for it on the Internet, when it can =P

Hoping I could help you.

Hello,

having already posted here. I've been following the different proposals for a while. I have tried everything, reinstalled WMP, etc.
I tried to delete the file you mentioned, but my Windows Media still won't scan my folders. My library remains empty. The directories I add to scan don't stay in memory. The MP3s added by dragging load (small window with a loading bar), but nothing happens in the library. So... BFD.
Can someone tell me why my library was completely erased overnight and why it's impossible to reconstruct it?
(My MP3s work correctly and they are indeed MP3s; for some reason, videos go into the video folder as expected, but the music library remains empty. I can play tracks with the player by creating playlists directly from my folders, but my problem is the library.) I use other players, but I am really frustrated by this problem.

I have the same issue; the pieces I download on my PC are not added to the WMP library. I converted a title that wasn't adding from MP3 to WMA, and miraculously, it was added. I can't explain it... but I would like someone to explain it to me.

Hello,

I am sharing a problem that I fixed under Vista Ultimate, which is an issue with my library.

I had deleted a music folder of about 50 gigabytes, with many subfolders, but the thing is that under Media Player 11, I couldn't delete the songs from the library or the folders, which was quite a hassle. It indicated that the file was deleted, but it still kept it in the library, so even using the delete key, there was no way to make it understand.

Finally, I understood the problem. I had set up Windows Media Center to analyze the folder where my music was located, which is why it kept the library "protected." I had to stop the analysis of this folder via Media Center for my library to finally update.

I hope this can help some people or provide them with a new lead.

Hello,
MAD73
the reason I'm posting here is that there is a functionality issue. I'm not foolish enough not to have tried the usual methods.

Hi Théo,

I'm exactly in the same situation as you! I've tried all the tricks from this forum. Nothing works! Are your mp3s on an external USB drive, and did you initially think (like me) that the problem might come from the drive? So I went ahead and formatted it and tried changing the drive's "letter." Impossible. Also, do you have Media Center Edition 2005 on your PC? I do, and I've also tried going through that way: no chance to recreate my library! It's really throwing me off. If you have any updates, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Hello everyone!

I have the same problem. I formatted my computer and since then I can't get all my songs back into the library (even though they were there before I formatted)

I searched the internet but to no avail!

So if anyone knows how to fix this and where this problem comes from... I'm open to any information.

Thank you for your attention.

Hello,
it seems I have a similar problem because my library suddenly emptied, all the songs disappeared. The musical pieces are still there but no longer in the library.
I have many protected files and I am wondering if this solution will cause me to lose them.

Thank you for your help.

It would be nice to be able to access this file, but I'm having trouble! I supposedly don't have permission?!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't work... in the ehome folder, I only have the "art" folder and two system files: "image" and "videos"....
