zoom stuck on my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I can’t open my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55 digital camera anymore. When I press the power button, the screen says: "Turn off, then turn back on," which I’ve done several times, but I think the zoom is stuck!

Oh yes, I want to mention that it hasn’t fallen on the ground or anything!

I am in a foreign country for a few months, so if someone could help me, I would be very grateful!!!

Same issue.
On SONY CYBER SHOT DSC W55: black screen, message "Turn off and turn back on", zoom going back and forth.

THE FOLLOWING SOLUTION WORKED FOR THIS DEVICE "I just had the issue. I opened the front face (4 tiny screws and opened the SD card door) and I shook the lens board and it got unstuck." from monmonjaja, on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 10:08:01 PM.

After shaking the telephoto lens which was in folded mode from the front face, the screen lit up again. The test was conducted with the device still disassembled (front face removed as well as the two small flaps on both sides marked CE for the left flap and the recycling waste symbol, and 3X OPTICAL ZOOM for the left flap).

I just had the issue. I opened the front panel (4 small screws and opened the SD card door) I wiggled the lens board and it got unstuck.

Hello, I tried the operation described above, but there was no result! The zoom still goes back and forth the same way when turning on, and the shutters do not close when turning off!
Could you perhaps describe the operation to be performed a bit more precisely?

I have a Cyber-shot from August 2006
I had the same issues, we thought it was due to overheating or the fact that I carry it everywhere! It's been through a lot.
Generally, we let it "rest" for a few minutes and it starts working again.
However, I'm looking for a waterproof case and I can't find one!

Same issue with the zoom that goes in and out 4 times before telling me to turn it off and then back on again on DSC-W120...
This happened right after I zoomed all the way in quickly...
Does anyone have any ideas for this model?

Hello,
Have you tried this procedure: remove the battery from your device, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then replace the battery in the device and turn it on again. If there are no results, contact the customer service of the store where you purchased it with your warranty receipt.

I was about to take apart my camera after reading some solutions, but just before doing it, I don't know why I decided to first press around the lens while turning it on, and suddenly it worked
it's magic
maybe try that, it might solve the problem.

same problem with my super steady DSC-W80
just need to remove one screw, take off a silver cover (on the side of the device)
which gives direct access to the lens.
unclog a small black piece (visible when turning on the device because it moves) and there you go :)

Same problem, I removed the front panel, didn't even have to touch anything, the device started working normally right away!
So thank you very much for the info!! (And Sony, there's no point in equipping yourself with Zeiss lenses if the shape of the body isn't compatible with the system...)

I have the same problem, it had a slight fall of about 10cm in height while it was on, and the screen immediately showed me "Turn off and turn back on."
But when I follow the instructions, nothing happens, and the zoom/lens remains extended! This has been the case since yesterday...
I also noticed that the zoom/lens of the device seems slightly pushed up, in short, I'm in a panic!
What should I do? :(

I took it apart... pressed on the lens... blew on it... well, it still doesn’t work. I’ll check with customer service, hoping they don’t make a fuss if they notice I opened it.

Maybe you have sand or dust stuck in there. Disassemble it, then turn it on to extend the zoom; then position the lens downwards and tap it with your nail (like when you toss a coin for heads or tails, but it's easier with your index finger) several times, then wipe it with a cloth, moving outward of course; repeat as many times as possible.....

My Cyber Shot DSC W350 had the same problem.
Solution:
_Remove the battery

_Hit the device hard in your hands

_Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then release it, put the battery back in, and turn it on.......
