Question

Hello,So on my Acer desktop, I opened it up to clean the fans, a task I had done before... but now when I plugged it back in, there's no display, it shows "no signal", and then I noticed the keyboard wasn't lighting up, the mouse didn't have any effects either; I think the connections at the back of the CPU are disconnected. I must have touched something. I've checked everything, I haven't unplugged anything, it might be more delicate than that... Anyway, I'm in a bind, if someone can help me.. I'll be back in the afternoon if you need specifics about the hardware, but it's really after I touched the fans.. Thank you Muli..

Indeed, it could stem from my cleaning method, small dust cloth. Is there a way for me to check where the anomaly is coming from? The fact that it's not just the screen that won't turn on, since the USB connections don't work either, rules out the hypothesis that it could just be the graphics card, doesn't it?

if I understand correctly, after cleaning up, you put everything back in place, but once you restart, it shows no signal. However, does the tower power on? Do you hear the fans running and the hard drive spinning, for example? And have you noticed any unusual beeping sounds from the motherboard?

If everything powers on normally, the fans are running, and the hard drive is working, it’s likely that the graphics card is not properly connected if you cleaned it. Otherwise, it’s possible that the graphics card is dead, but that's unlikely.

Yes, everything lights up, the fans start running, if I put in a CD it feels like it's working, no beeping, just everything is inactive behind it, including the screen plug and the USB ports.

Unfortunately, it could still be the graphics card; try reconnecting it anyway even if you haven't touched it otherwise, just to be sure. It's simplest to try with another graphics card if you have one available.

Otherwise, as Tribun said, it could come from the cloth if you picked up something charged with static electricity; in general, components don’t appreciate that.

However, apart from the graphics card or a motherboard issue, I don't see where it could come from. If it were the processor, the motherboard would give a specific BEEP.

Just to clarify, do you hear a beep from the motherboard at startup like every time? If that's the case, the motherboard isn't the issue.

Indeed, the cloths I used are those that attract dust, so they are probably charged with static electricity. I have the impression that there is no beep when I start the computer.

For the startup beep, I was answering this question: "Did you hear a beep from the motherboard at startup, like every time? If so, the motherboard is not the issue." So, I hope it's not the motherboard.

Is it possible it's some kind of fuse or a battery?

I would be surprised if it came from the motherboard battery unless you really took it out and put it back in by hand, which is not recommended.

To keep it simple, if your screen says "no signal," it means that the screen cannot communicate with the graphics card. So either the graphics card is dead, or it's not connected properly, or the VGA cable is malfunctioning. But if it were just the cable, the computer would start normally, and the keyboard and mouse would activate. There you go :(

OK, so I tried removing the graphics card and putting it back... nothing. I will therefore focus on finding another graphics card to run the test. I'll keep you updated. If you have any other ideas or another procedure for me to try, please let me know :-)

I'm glad your problem is resolved, it's true that it's quite particular, but the most important thing is that it works now :)

By the way, as Tribun told you, next time try to clean with an air duster or specific tools and avoid wearing thick wool sweaters that generate static electricity ^^
