my mac no longer recognizes the built-in speaker Solved/Closed

Hello,
My Mac no longer recognizes the built-in speakers...
I connected an amplifier to my computer to listen to music. I unplugged it, and after that my computer would only give me sound through earphones. When I try to lower or raise the volume, it shows me a prohibited sign... I can still listen to sound with earphones; I also now have a red light at the headphone jack that I didn't have before.

I went to System Preferences -- Sound --- and there in the output tab, only "digital output" is displayed, I have no other choice, and below it says: "the output volume cannot be adjusted on the selected device" (but since I can't select anything else...)

I don't know what kind of Mac you have or which system you're on..

But..., what does the "Audio MIDI Setup" application say in your Applications / Utilities folder?

Your Mac is equipped with a digital output? (That's not the case for me), it seems that you should find a setting to switch to audio output and disable the digital output

Read this excerpt from Apple Help:

My speakers are not producing any sound

If you do not hear sound from one or more internal or external speakers, perform the following checks:

If you are trying to use the built-in speakers of your computer, disconnect the headphones or external speakers. If headphones or external speakers are connected to the computer's headphone jack, the internal speakers will not work. If you are using Apple Pro speakers, disconnect the headphones.
If you are trying to use external speakers, ensure they are properly connected to the computer and, if applicable, to the power outlet. Also, make sure they are turned on.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Sound. Make sure the Mute box is not checked and that the Output Volume slider is not slid all the way to the left.
If you are trying to use the built-in speakers of your computer or Apple Pro speakers, ensure that the "Built-in Audio" option is selected in the Sound preferences Output pane. If you are trying to use USB external speakers, make sure they are selected in the Output window.

If you are using the computer's digital output port (available on some computers), check that the Digital Output option is selected in the Sound preferences Output window. Also, ensure that the computer is connected to a digital receiver using an optical digital cable and that the receiver is set for digital input (see the receiver's documentation).
If you are trying to use external speakers, open System Information (in the Utilities subfolder of the Applications folder) and ensure that your speakers are listed.
Check that no volume control from the application you are using is set to minimum.
Try playing another CD or audio file, or try playing the current CD or file on another computer or CD player to ensure that it is not defective.
If the problem persists, consult the documentation for the speakers."

You therefore need to find a way to disable the digital output ...

I suggest you start with the installation CD and perform a hard drive repair,
and then run Onyx for permission repairs and cache deletion.

After that, it should work... otherwise, there will be Archive and Install left, but I don't think so, it must be a minor issue.

Hello,

Since I had moderate confidence in the toothpick method, I took some earbuds and plugged/unplugged the jack for 5 minutes, and after a while, the red light did not turn back on and the internal speakers were working again.
