Annoying noise coming from my speakers

Question

Hello,

When my audio system (subwoofer + speakers) is on, but I'm not listening to any music, etc., in short, when it doesn't transmit any sound, there is often a small unpleasant noise coming from the speakers, like a slight buzzing. Do you know where this might be coming from and if it's normal?

Hello everyone who's struggling!! This problem is quite simple, it just comes from the socket to which the computer is connected. If it is not "grounded" (with the metal pin sticking out of the socket), the sound will be distorted! The thing is, sometimes the socket may seem grounded but isn't really, so the background noise will be there. This explains why with a laptop, the noise only occurs when it's plugged into the mains.

Hi, I think it's coming from the socket with the green plug connected to the PC, maybe the cable is worn out
check by turning the cable if the noise persists (don't damage the cable of course)

I'm not sure it's that but it doesn't hurt to try.

Thank you for your response. I checked the cable, and apparently everything is fine on that side; plus, my PC is very new, I've only had it for a few weeks, so everything should be in good condition.
However, I just browsed the forum a bit more thoroughly, and I see that the background noise in the speakers (especially Logitech, like mine) is common... Do you think this could be due to interference from other devices or a Wi-Fi network, for instance (I have a Wi-Fi network myself)? Is there a way to remedy this?

Check that another nearby device is not causing interference (PC screen, telephone without a line, etc.), and also ensure that there are no loose connections in the wiring.

Otherwise, I also want to point out that this little buzzing is not permanent, but I feel like I hear it more and more often lately...
I only hear it when I'm not listening to anything (no music or anything) and when the volume is set to a fairly high level.

Hello, I also have this problem. I tried unplugging my speakers and plugging in headphones, but that annoying little sound continues even in the headphones...
So I tried plugging my speakers directly into my MP3 player, no problem...
Should I conclude that this issue comes from the PC itself ^o)?
Could this problem be related to a virus that plays a sound of "rather unpleasant crackling" or not...

Hi,
This is due to interference from other devices that the amplifier of the speaker + subwoofer kit receives (if you connected your kit in analog), which then sends it to the speakers.
Normally, the amplifier is located in the subwoofer, so check if your subwoofer is not too close to a device producing electromagnetic waves.
To hear less interference, turn up the volume of your sound card to the maximum (I hope you don't have an integrated sound card ^^' otherwise you will usually have a hissing noise when the speakers are not producing sound).

Re, I unplugged everything that could cause wave interference, in short, I only left the PC, the speakers, the screen, and the livebox (plugged in), yet the noise continued... it's a regular noise which is why I'm wondering if it might be a virus that is playing sound, it sounds like an MP3 on loop with whistling and other louder strange noises...
Is there a virus capable of doing that?

I can partially help you; I know it's not your equipment, it seems that if I remember correctly, it would come from Explorer. This still needs to be verified, but I had this problem a long time ago.

Hello,  I also have the problem, it DOES NOT COME from the speakers, these are not noise caused by interference. (Whether I plug my headphones directly into the computer or connect the speakers, I have this damn weird sound.  This little scratching noise lasts for a fraction of a second and could be described with the following phrase [tshhh]. It appears irregularly about every 5 minutes (sometimes twice in a row).  One person said it could come from "explorer" (one of the applications launched by Windows that manages the start menu, for example) could they elaborate? Hi everyone,

I'm sharing my problem;

So, I host parties with my PC (Acer Aspire 5720Z) that I connect via the jack output to the sync input of my mixing table. Unfortunately, when everything is connected, there's a horrible noise coming from the speakers, not just mine, but also from the venues where I mix..
One day I unplugged the power supply from the PC and then it was fine... The sound was perfect!! But I can't stay all night on battery, it only lasts 2.5 hours...
I've tried plugging the PC's power supply into an outlet that wasn't connected in any way to my players, mixing table, etc..
But without results, still that horrible noise..

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Hello everyone,

I had the same problem as you and I found the solution.
The noise was simply coming from the sound card configuration where I had turned all the sliders up to the max, even those I didn't know what they were for.
I simply set the "phone" slider to 0 and it’s perfect! No more noise!

I have the same problem as j-r-m-i-e, interferences from my Logitech Z-5500 set when I'm not doing anything. It simply comes from radio waves that are broadcast too strongly! If I get close to the subwoofer, I can even hear the radio (I can even tell the station now by comparing)... And then we're told that the waves are not powerful and don't pose a health risk, how beautiful France is and all this system of "I say something and everyone must believe me"...

PS: I live in the mountains, I should specify, I can't even imagine what it would be like in the city.

Hello, I have a PC connected to a mixing table that goes to an amplifier and then to speakers (a basic sound system, basically), and I'm experiencing some small crackling sounds in the treble of my music. For my part, I just realized that it was the internet box, placed next to the subwoofer, that was causing the problem: by disabling the Wi-Fi (which I am not using at the moment) the little noise disappeared. :)

Hello everyone. I had a similar problem. But even when I wasn't in a sub-sector, it was crackling. By the way, I use an Acer 5542G. The problem was that I had configured my speakers (Realtek audio) in surround. Once I switched them back to stereo, everything was fine! I would therefore recommend doing this: right-click on the volume icon, select sound; in the playback tab, left-click on speakers (Realtek in my case) and select configure speakers. In the window that appears, choose stereo. P.S. all the proposed solutions should be tried because not all problems will necessarily be the same as mine. CHYV

Hello, I also had (well, I had) a constant dull noise coming from my left speaker, even when it was disconnected from the PC. A nightmare. But I removed the cover of the speaker, put a big ball of paper in the middle, and put the cover back on. The ball presses on the middle of the speaker and now there's no more noise, and the speaker works just as well as before. What a relief! I don't know why that black cardboard thing was vibrating, but the paper ball trick works perfectly.

my experience:  I solved my issue with parasites (we could hear chirping, interference from the computer, mouse noises, etc.) in my monitoring speakers (Prodipe Pro 6 and Roland Quad Capture sound card) by purchasing good quality XLR - JACK balanced cables  >> no more noise

Hello, I think I have the same issue as you. I have a café bar in Aquitaine. For my sound system, I have 4 speakers of 80 watts. One 200-watt amplifier One mixing console And on this console, I connect: - A CD player - An MP3 player - My computer. It crackles as soon as I plug in or turn on the CD player OR my computer, but only if my computer is plugged into the mains, as it doesn’t crackle when the computer is on battery power. I mean, it crackles and at high volume you can hear the arcing and vibration noise as if there was an electric motor running (it sounds like the noise made by a small electric motor but with crackling). I'm trying to be precise. So, I looked into this before asking my question here. I was advised to connect the computer without the ground, so to plug the computer into a socket where there’s no ground. It works if nothing moves, if the cable doesn’t budge an inch, but if you touch it or if it moves, it crackles loudly, both in the speakers and also in the socket. So I don’t think that’s a good solution. However, when I do this for the CD player, the crackling disappears by 90%. I took my setup – CD, computer, amplifier, etc. – and plugged it into another room, same issue. I wanted to check for interference I might have in the bar from the fridge motor or the lights. Do you have any advice?

Hi,  just a quick update. I had the same problem. I'm using a USB hub, connected via USB 2.0. I think the port is malfunctioning, try disconnecting your devices and see if the problem persists. It might be due to an overconsumption from one of them.  Good luck!

At my place, a change in the outlet’s polarity solved the problem. An old audiophile reflex... If it’s not fixed, try the outlets of the other devices plugged into the same circuit - one by one - :)
