How to unlock the folders on my external hard drive

Hello,
I recently bought a MAC OS X, and I have an IOMEGA external hard drive. I used it before on a family Windows PC, and now on my MAC, the folders on my IOMEGA external hard drive are read-only... so I can't add files or delete them because the folders on my IOMEGA external hard drive are locked...

- How can I delete locked folders from my IOMEGA external hard drive? Because the folders go to the trash but are impossible to erase.

- How do I unlock the folders on my external IOMEGA drive using my MAC?

Thank you in advance for your help :)
Configuration: Mac OS X Safari 523.10.6

Hello,
This disk may be formatted in NTFS, which is intended for Windows XP and Vista. Mac OS can read this format, but cannot write on it. However, Mac OS can read and write on the FAT 32 (MS DOS) format. You should use the Disk Utility located in your Applications / Utilities folder to check the format of this external disk and possibly erase and reformat it, either to Mac OS (which the PC cannot read unless MacDrive is installed), or to MS DOS format that both computers can read. However, the MS DOS (FAT 32) format has restrictions in terms of maximum file size.
