Hello, I'm probably clueless so I need help with a problem that's probably easy to solve...
I have a Toshiba external hard drive containing backups from my old Toshiba PC and I want to delete some stuff that’s in there, and I have a MacBook Air. For example, I drag a photo from the hard drive to the trash, but I get the following message: “Can't put the item 'thing.jpg' in the Trash because it can't be deleted.”
Knowing that I've already searched online about how I need to format the drive through “Disk Utility” in the settings but I can't find it (or I don’t see it...)!! I need help please.

Hello,
It is more than likely that this external drive is in NTFS format, so it can be read by the Mac, but not modified natively by the Mac. The Mac can natively read a drive formatted with NTFS, but cannot modify it. To write or delete files on an NTFS-formatted drive, the Mac needs to use a utility like Paragon NTFS:

You have several options depending on your needs and possibilities.
Either,
- you copy the contents of this drive to another medium (your internal drive or elsewhere), then you format this external drive to Mac format and then put the recovered files back on it
or
- you install Paragon NTFS on the Mac and continue to use this drive as if nothing happened.
A little more explanation here:

Best regards.
