Mouse wheel isn't working anymore!!

Question

Hello,
I have a small problem that has been going on for a while, the scroll wheel on my Logitech mouse has decided to stop working, I initially thought it was a hardware issue, so I bought a "no name" mouse with a scroll wheel that also... doesn't work :(
Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I'm running on Windows Lsd3.5 (which doesn't stop me from having a family license for XP and Vista for the complaints I sense coming :) ) and the goal would be to get at least one of the two working!!
Anyway, thanks in advance for your help...

Hi, I've been there, I have 4 tabs: "button", "pointer", "pointer options" and "hardware", none allow for wheel configuration except in "hardware" > "advanced" > "advanced settings" > "wheel detection" > "assume a wheel is present".
But nothing works :(

I don't think so since "no name," there were no drivers with it, and my Logitech mouse had the drivers properly installed and then all of a sudden nothing! I think the problem comes from Windows..
Oh and one last thing, I can use the wheel as a third button, it's just the scroll that doesn't work!

It may sound crazy, but it happened to me too and it works. It doesn't permanently fix the problem because it still happens to me, and each time I do this workaround and it works for a while

Well, very simply your mouse is dirty, open it up and you'll see that it collects even more dust since it's mechanical. So once cleaned with compressed air for those who have it, reassemble it and be careful because for me a spring fell out but I couldn't put it back because I didn't see where it was. But it works again, that's the main thing (later I'll buy a wired optical one: the best of mice).

I blew it out with compressed air and it still doesn't work.
The problem occurred after updating the laptop's touchpad drivers, and this mouse is also connected via PS2. So I consider it a driver issue on my part, and it remains unresolved.

It just happened to me as well, after giving the mouse a blow with compressed air, nothing... still the same...!!

I unplugged the mouse cable (it's a wired optical one), blew some air into the ports, and then it worked

I had this problem too, and I can confirm that the clogging of the scroll wheel was the cause. Sometimes a blast of air isn't enough; you have to open the mouse and clean it by hand. Personally, there was a lot of gunk :D

So, problem solved... explanations:
my problem was due to a compatible portable clone that installs a pad management module which interfered with the Windows driver for my mouse.
after uninstalling this useless module on a desktop, no more problems.

For my part, the scroll wheel wasn't working at all, and it happened all of a sudden. I have a Logitech wireless mouse M205.
I couldn't get the scrolling to work again despite all the options available in the "mouse" control panel.
I also tried clicking 3 times on the wheel but that didn't work...
